Play this on PC, the Playstation version is not the full version

I just wanna review out something no ones said yet.

If you still ever play this game, it is a great game, it's 5 stars, provided your into this sort of thing.

But recently when i played the playstation version, i noticed they jibbed out and didnt include certain things that the PC version and better version had.

First off - There is no train. The PC version has a fully working train that you can hijack and even put into reverse.. sure, it may be useless to crash into another train, but it was entertaining. The PS version doesnt have a train.. but yet, it has the tracks for it, so go figure that one out.

Next, lack of vehicles. The PC version doesnt have spots where cars just disapeer and it feels like your walking around a ghost town.

And something no one can say wouldnt be better... you can edit the PC version, not only can you put whatever car you want into the game by downloading a simple quick device them importing a car you can download or make yourself, but you can also change everything in the game with simmilar tools. You can not just add cars, you can add missions, put more cars into things, edit the exsisting map, or hell, make your own city from scratch.

When I play this game, i like to ride around in Knight Rider, or maybe the General Lee, try and eulude cops driving lambourghinis... gouranga!

Convinced the PC versions better? Makes you feel like the PSX you played was lacking, huh?

Grand Theft auto is interesting but simply outdated

Grand Theft Auto has unlimited gameplay but did they ever think about improving the graphics? The graphics are horrobile. The options in the game are incredible though. I recomend this too anyone who doesnt care about the graphics, otherwise rent first, u'll be happy to find out what u were almost goin to buy.

What?

I expected something simalar to GTA III. I was wrong! I didn't like this game. The graphics and the controls stink. So does the view! I suggest that you get Vice city and GTA III before you get this!

The irreverent is about the best thing in this game.

I don't know about any other player, but I have a limited tolerance for an overhead-perspective game where the main objective is to drive around.

This game has a great deal of weaknesses. Limited variety, monotonous designs that are irritating to navigate through, not enough weapons (if you assign an assassination, how can you not point the player to a weapons cache?), and too many ways of failing. If a cop catches you you fail; if you die you fail; if you miss a deadline (and it's easy, given the amount of traffic you'll run into and the annoying street designs), you fail. At some point I just went, "Too bad" and started running down pedestrians, but that also got boring in a pinch.

One of the worst things? Controls. The forward/backward control scheme is absolutely horrendous, it's a pain in the neck trying to aim your guns, and there are a lot of times when your character does things you don't ask him to -- when using the bazooka, for example, very often the explosion would turn you around so that if you press walk, you might end up walking right into the fire because your character just turned all by himself.

GTA London was a little more fun for me, but also wore off extremely quickly. I had expected a game from the perspective of a criminal to have much more life in it than this. Perhaps an RPG (create your own gangster!) is a better way to go.

Would have been good without a couple of huge problems

I've recently beaten Grand Theft Auto 3, which I enormously recommend to anybody who has a PS2 and can tell the difference between reality and fantasy. I thought it would be interesting to take a look at the original GTA (Historical interest, you know), so I bought a used copy.

As everybody already knows, and as I knew, the graphics aren't great. They're 2D and pixellated, and they don't seem at home on a Playstation game. But graphics aren't everything (After all, Tetris was one of the best games ever), so this flaw doesn't greatly detract from the game, in my opinion.

Unfortunately, two other flaws greatly ruined my fun while trying to play. The first is the game's camera. It's really, really annoying, and you can't do anything about it - the camera keeps zooming in on you/your car and then zooming out for no reason, making it difficult sometimes to see what's happening sometimes. Other times, it's just annoying. Also, you can't rotate the camera, which bites.

The second flaw is much more aggravating, and really hurts the game, I think. The controls are almost indecipherable. I figured that maybe it was just that I was still using GTA3-styled controls, and after awhile, I would learn to adjust, but I didn't. I still can't drive a car in this game without constantly bonking into a building, or frantically trying to steer my car back onto a road. There are five different layouts for your controls, all pre-set, so you can't customize it. All five are useless. It really hurts gameplay if you can't even play the game.

The game has great historical interest, and it's still a fun concept. However, if you have a PS2, just forget about this and go for GTA3. At least in that game, if you have a hard time beating it, it's because the game is challenging, not the controls.

Codes are absolutely neccasary

Pros:
Open ended gameplay
fun missions
many ways to win game
missions optional
you can get in practicly any car
pretty ... inexspensive
Cons:
Horrible graphics GBA style graphics
Bad controls
gets boring
can only save between levels which take up to 3 hours + to beat
Tough gameplay makes codes neccasary
shooting system is horrible
Gets too old quickly to buy but to long to rent

Just not fun.

I dunno... I loved the concept, but the control kills it. I dont like having to push a gas button to walk! Thankfully they fixed this in GTA 3 & 4. Those games are incredible. Buy those asap!!

I am giving the game 3 stars for having to cojones to bring this kind of gaming to the world.

It's all started here...

Grand Theft Auto - Circa 1997

GOOD:
- The roots or start of a super popular franchise
- Sort of fun and different in it's own way

BAD:
- Really, really dated graphics, even for its day
- Gameplay is pretty old and controls can be tough for some

WILL IT FIT YOUR TASTE:
- A Top-down run and gun game where you steal cars, kill people, and live a life of crime

GAME ITS MOST ASSOCATED TOO:
- Grand Theft Auto: London 1969
- Grand Theft Auto 2
- The legend of Zelda: A link to the past (but a lot more urban and violent)

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- There is a version of this game for Game Boy Advance
- There is a version of this game that comes packed with Grand Theft Auto: London 1969
- All three levels (or cities) in this game later on became their own Grand Theft Auto game, example the first level is liberty city which is the city from GTAIII, The second level is Vice city which is the same city from GTA: Vice City, and last but not least is the third level San Andreas which is the same city/state for GTA: San Andreas

Old, but cool

GTA 1 is a very old game, so anyone should expect realistic grafics nor long and complicated missions, as in the last three GTAs, but it's a game in the same style of the newer GTAs, and fun as well. I indicate the game for anyone for anyone who thinks that a good game is a good game, no matter how old it is.

BARELY PASSABLE 5 OUT OF 10

The very first Grand Theft Auto is likely the most forgotten, and for good reasons. Though there is fun to be had in this game, it is marred by one of the worst control schemes I have ever experienced, the top-down camera is awful, and the combat mechanics suck. The graphics are quite ugly as well. The overall presentation is a mess because of poor development skills the development team had apparently. Like I said this title is passable overall, but it is marred by some huge issues which is probably why it's forgotten.
