First, let me just say that this game will frustrate all but the most patient people. You die A LOT! If you can't handle that, you definitely don't want this game. Otherwise, Fear Effect is great. Its got a cool graphical style, a neat story, and challenging puzzles. The fear-based health system can be annoying, but fighting is generally fun. I think the downside to this game is its controls, but that's just my personal taste. Its got the Resident Evil control scheme, where pressing up moves the character whatever direction they're facing, not away from the screen, and pressing right or left makes the character rotate to their right or left, not your right or left. I hate this kind of control scheme; I think something like Metal Gear Solid's controls is much better, but I got used to it. And on a subject completely unrelated to Fear Effect, I just wanted to say that I think their needs to be some kind of screening process for reviewer intelligence. I don't really trust someone's review when they try to spell "fantasy" with no vowels... Anyway, Fear Effect's great!

I'll tell you what, this is one frustrating game! Sometimes I wonder whether it's worth going ballistic over. I imagine it will be, if for the visuals alone. I believe that games are supposed to be moderately challenging. Challenging, but not downright frustrating. For example, try disarming that friggin' bomb in the first level! That's worth a couple o' gray hairs. I mean, when you die you might as well get up,grab yerself a drink or something to eat 'cos by the time you get back the game will probably still be loading...And believe me, it's way too easy to die in this game. I'm gonna complete this game because I'm a very intuitive individual who doesn't get mad very easily. If you're the exact opposite, you best stick to those player-friendly games like...oh...Mario Kart or whatever the heck it's called!
too confusing

This game got really boring really fast. If you have played games like Resident Evil then you will more than likely hate this game. The constant dieing and restarting gets really repetative and startes to get on your nerves. After a while when you do get really good with the controls the game does start to get kinda fun but the transition period is really boring. I think three for a rating is a bit too high but once you get the hang of the game it does start to get fun.
Not as Good as Fear Effect 2

This game is the predecessor to Fear Effect 2 and the upcoming Fear Effect 3: Inferno.
This game and gameplay are very similar to Tomb Raider, Resident Evil and all those action/adventure games where you have to solve puzzles. This game actually does deserve a mature rating -- with unadulterated gore, some suggestive sexuality and mature discussions of vengeance and under-the-table monies. The graphics is also well-done using a combination of anime and 3-dimensional graphics. The child's playroom in the Hell level is particularly creepy, and it is very reminiscent of Nightmare on Elm Street. The voice acting is done well, but Hana has the whole Valley Girl thing going on that becomes very annoying after an hour or so. Hana was actually much more mature in Fear Effect 2 than in Fear Effect. The music in this game also wasn't as good as in Fear Effect 2. The cinematics in this game are great and are nearly as good as Metal Gear Solid (as a date-to-date) comparison. The only faults of this game that I can see are the long loading times -- before and after deaths. I liked the Fear Effect series over the Tomb Raider and Resident Evil series because you have to have patience, a whole lot of moxie, some more brainpower, and a whole lot more reflexes. Overall, buy this game cheap, and you won't regret the purchase. Otherwise, stick with Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix.
This game kicks butt!

This is one of the few truly original ADULT games created for the playstation...well any game system really. The graphics are outstanding, the characters are unique and the puzzles actually seem to fit into the story line...unlike those in Resident Evil and Dino Crisis to name a few. The ONLY reason this did not get a full five star rating is due to the extremely slow game load times and the extreme level of difficulty. Now, don't get me wrong, the game is good because it is difficult but as a result, you tend to die quite a few times and re-loading a saved game can take several minutes which is frustrating as hell. All in all a great game that I would highly recommend to any serious gamer that wants something new and different.

First of all, I'd like to say that, contrary to what I'm reading, violence, nudity, and bad language do not make a game "mature."
Fear Effect PROS: Good graphics, fluid animation.
Fear Effects CONS: crappy voice acting, juvenille dialogue (yeah, real mature people), dull gameplay. Sorry, but I just couldn't get into this one. It was neat to see the cartoon-like graphics but the novelty was short-lived. I really wanted to like this game (after reading all the hype) but was sorely disappointed. It's just no fun.
Incredible game and incredible fun.

A mix of Anime, Hong Kong John Woo style action, Resident Evil Survival Horror, and stealth action of Metal Gear Solid, this game is awesome.
It is so fun. Even though it is very hard, but the cheat code give you infinite life, makes it pretty easy.
Fear Effect rulz!!!

I have had Fear Effect ever since it came out, and I still think it is one of the greatest games. Though it can be extremely challenging at times, it is also loads of great fun, expecially with it's cartoon-like graphics. The storyline is brilliant fallowed by a host of awsome characters. If your looking for a challenge, than I point to Fear Effect.

This game is great. I would advise renting it over buying it because it can be beat in just a few hours. It also got hard a little to fast, before I really had the hang of the conrols I was running from missiles. Everything else is great, if your a fan of the genre (im not) go ahead and get it because its a blast while it lasts.
