I got this from Gamestop, for $5.00 used. I kept wondering if it was good or bad. Well it breaks down like this:
Pros:
-Great Graphics
-Great voice acting
-nice selection of weapons
-excellent storyline
-has a bit of comedy in it(Like when hana takes her towel off in front of a soldier, and Deke snaps his kneck)
Cons:
-Puzzles are COMPLICATED(I died, and tried many times trying to get them right)
-The inventory system takes too long for me to get a weapon, so I died sometimes, trying to get my favorite weapon
-After you play it the first time, there's no real thrill to play it the second time, unless you're trying to get the best ending on hard.
I still play this game when I want to, it's just that it's just not the same like the first time I played it, cuz I didn't know what was going to happen(I didn't use a guide because I didn't want to ruin the suprise, and man it was a painful long jurney) If you like games like Silent Hill or Resident evilm I would definitly recomend this game, but rent it first.
peace

This is truly a visual work of art. This game has some of the best graphics yet. Of course that is probably why it takes up 4 CDs. Don't be alarmed by the size despite using 4 CDs chances are this game can be beaten within a couple of weeks if you spend a couple of hours a day. I personally like that in a game, I'm getting sick and tired of these games that require upwards of 40 hours to complete. Games like this make me feel like I'm really progressing. The cinematics give you a pretty good reward for just about everything you do and let me tell you you need it on this game. There are parts in the first two disks that are really hard even on the easy level. It seems to get a little easier as you go along, but if you plan to play this game let me give you one word of advice "Conserve your ammo" Nothing is more frustrating than dying because you don't have enough ammo. And you will die at least once every fifteen minutes even in the later half of the game and much more often early on. The controls can also be a little annoying at times but they are about as good as the third person type controls get and I haven't seen any that are much better. The storyline is also very involved and really draws you in. The puzzles aren't that complicated but are kind of unique and interesting in their own right even if they are usually somewhat easy to solve. Overall I would definitely recommend this game as one of the best adventure games for the PSX in recent history.
Awsome game with a few glitches

This game has outstanding graphics and sound and just the right game for a hardcore gamer like me.The game has its ups and downs but they're hardly noticable.I don't see why fellow gamers want a challenge andget ticked when they areconfronted with one? It's just a downright fun game, but I do reccommend you rent it first.

I recently rented this game and am wondering why everyone says this game is so great. Admitedly I never got far into the game, but I can consider myself a rather open-minded gamer and have a large fustration berth, but this game REALLY taxed it. The most obvious complaint being that this game just isn't fun. It tries way to hard to emulate RE, but doesn't capture the intensity, or fun factor. In fact the action stinks in this game. It's very easy to die here, and the battles are less skill based than having a better weapon. Maybe you should just rent the game and see if you like it, seeing as so many people disagree with me.
Finally - A game that offers challenge

This game has everything. Great dialogue and speech (unlike Final Fantasy), hard and taxing puzzles (unlike Resident Evil), hard and challenging bosses (again, unlike Resident Evil) and an amazing, complex, adult storyline. This is more like a movie. The twists of the story, I won't give them away, are great and it is one of few Playstation games that offers a good challenge. It is Resident Evil style but Res Evil is much too easy and the dialogue in the cut scene is bad. In FEAR EFFECT the cross between FMV and active play is created well and there is no significant change in graphics. It is a great game, long (4 discs), challenging with both puzzles and bosses and packed with action. If you liked Res Evil, BUY THIS!!!!!
Definetely The Cream Of The (Mature) Playstation Crop

While browsing the Playstation titles at Software Inc. in the Santa Rosa Mall, in Florida, I came across a title that inrigued me. The name? FEAR EFFECT. The game talked about it's content that was not suited for smaller children, and hinting at the plot. I bought the game. After arriving home, I began to play.

I've been playing the game for a good 3 hours now. I can't put it down. Finally, a game that's NOT FOR KIDS. Including VIOLENCE, GORE, SEXUAL THEMES, and NUDITY, this is a game that I would not recommend for young children, or to people who may find this sort of thing offensive. I'm currently in the middle of Disc 2. The plot is excellent. This is the first game in a while that has me looking behind my back while walking in the streets. It's quite the FRIGHTNING title.

I'm now writing a review for FEAR EFFECT. This game includes a DETAILED cast of characters, plenty of ACTION, a control system that's as INNOVATIVE as the internet, a wide array of REAL-LIFE weaponry availiable, HORRIFIC and adult content, and, most of all, an intruiging and immersive plot that will leave you wanting more. FEAR EFFECT should be the GAME OF THE YEAR, if not on the Playstation TOP 10 LIST.
It can recognize fear... can you?

This game is awsome. It is one of the most interesting games I've played, on any console. Most everything about it is above average.
Graphics: This is where Fear Effect really shines. Not only do the graphics look pretty, they are the same in game, and in cutscenes. Reminds one of anime, and manga, the graphics are perfect for this kind of game.
Gameplay: Hmm... I had a lot of fun playing the game. However, a word to the wise- this game is difficult. There are brainteaser puzzles, tons of enemies, and more instant deaths than you can shake a playstation controller at. But at the core, this game is very fun. The puzzles are clever, and perfectly woven into the game and plot. The enemies are clever, and I really liked the element of stealth in this game. Though the game is rather short, for four disks, it feels longer, because of the loading times, and that is what I found to be rather annoying. Also, the inventory system [isn't very good]. But you cant have everything.
Storyline: Essentially you play as three mercenaries, Hana TsuVachel, Royce Glas and Jacob "Deke" Decourt, who are out to get some quick cash by kidnapping a runaway and getting 90 million in ransom from her rich father. As you might guess, it soon turns into much more than that, and the storyline progresses into something much more sinister, and even delves into the supernatural. The plot is very good.
Sound: the music is just right for the mood. The voice actors are excellent.
Demographics: This game is for people age 17 and up. It is refreshing to finally see a mature action adventure. Kind of like a really good action film.
All in all, Fear Effect is a tight package, that many will enjoy.
great alternative survival horror game

This not only the most unique blend of graphics I have ever seen, but the graphics are some of the best I have seen on the Playstation, period. Mixing anime characters that walk around in real-time environments is excellent. But these surroundings aren't just any real-time, they are actually CG quality running environments. So what you actually have is an anime designed character (with facial expressions), exploring in a CG environment. Now that the basics have been stated, let's talk about the special effects. What a Sci-Fi adventure title like this needs is some kick ass looking effects, luckily Kronos knows that as well. The job they did not only with the basic visuals but with the special effects is wonderful, explosions look great. In-fact if you ask me, things like fire, explosions, lighting and all of the other effects, seem as if they had a lot of time put into them just to make them look believable. If you are interested in knowing the process of how the backgrounds were generated here it is: Kronos started out with super detailed 2D sketches, then they render them into 3D and under low-resolution. Later final touches are made and then they are set to run under hi-res for the final version the game. Before I leave of to the gameplay, I want to mention a quick thing: For those who care, Fear Effect has over 600 backgrounds, and I'm guessing that that is the most any game has had.
Although the gameplay may feel like "been there, shot that", but Fear Effect's gameplay is really a breath of fresh air. The camera flow is a lot like Resident Evil's and Dino Crisis', the gameplay in general is as well. Though it may not be shooting zombies or skeletons, the navigation is pretty close to the RE series. You start out as Hana at the beginning of the game, you make your way through roofs and such, until some story twisting events occur, you are later forced to play as Glas, Hana's partner you now have to get Hana out of a few sticky situations. Along both of their journeys you face bosses and pretty mindless enemies. Which now leads me to another topic in the gameplay, the AI in FE is pretty stupid. You can shoot pass them and they won't suspect a thing. Compared to AI from Syphon Filter and Metal Gear Solid, FE's AI hasn't even graduated pre-school yet. Although when they spot you, they will fire at you with excellent accuracy. The plot in my mind is pretty inimitable, although you may have seen a plot like this before it is really the setting that makes me say this. I wouldn't want to ruin the story for anyone so I'm deciding not to describe it for you, but I will describe the setting. You are in Hong-Kong (the year, is pretty far from now) and the atmosphere of the game is Sci-Fi, hence all of the dramatic sequences (special effects) you will encounter in the game.
Like Capcom's RE series there are puzzles to be solved in this game as well. Some can be so challenging that you will be forced to use a cheat or guide. FE is a pretty squeamish game, tons and tons of blood is squirted all over the place. Besides all of that you have a variety of weapons to choose from, Uzi's, .40 Pistols, Machine Guns, Hand Guns and more. The game spans 4 CD's but most of the space is used for the graphics quality, and the gameplay is hurt by a short replay value.
All of a sudden we see so many games with voice acting spawning out everywhere. I won't mention many, but some of the few are Tomba 2, Alundra2, and Syphon Filter 2. It look as if this phase is being recognized by developers and is now being used in other games as well. FE sports some top-notch voice acting, there isn't a slight show of breakup and the voices manage to keep up and they don't stray, so late timing is not an issue. Sound effect that come from, say the gunshots are quite good, you can hear everything from the gunshot to the wasted bullet falling to the ground. The sounds of the environments are great too, looks like Kronos put some time into the sound effects as well.
The control is very similar to Resident Evil's. You have to hold the up button and move using the right and left buttons. Since games with this type of control scheme don't come too often, I had a hard time adjusting to the movement and layout of the control, but you RE freaks should get acquainted in no time. It took me a good half hour to get used to the controls fully, but once that task is done all is fine.
Fear Effect is Eidos' best creation so far, the only game that can compare visually is Final Fantasy 8. The gameplay like I said is a definite "breath of fresh air", a suspenseful, thrilling, unique game that will grab hold of you and never let go. Every second of Fear Effect must be savored, because the game doesn't last as long as current games do today. Give it a week or so and you'll be done. But still nothing should stop you from purchasing Fear Effect.

This game most definetly kept me out of trouble for a while. I picked up the game at random and to my surprise, I finally got a really decent and GOOD game to play. The puzzles were frequent and some quite challenging. The characters are most pleasing to look at and listen to, especially the girls.I have played all of Eidos' Tomb Raders and hoped that Eidos stuck to its form of a good game to enjoy.Would like to have information on others very similar to FEAR EFFECT so that I continue to choose good games and keep out of trouble.
The character's behaviors, looks,& movements are pleasing. The grafics relating to the scenes surrounding the characters are really terrific. FEAR EFFECT 2 is truly great to play. I'm hoping that Eidos continues the FEAR EFFECT series. This would make me a very happy person. It is hard to find a really, really good and decent game such as FEAR EFFECT.
I had a difficult time quiting the game to do something else or to get to bed. I would stay up half way through the night playing the game. Needless to say, the girls also were up because I had a hard time putting the girls to bed. Hana & Rain didn't look like they lost any sleep on my account.
I want more games like FEAR EFFECT. I didn't want the game to end and was lost once it was over.
