Heroes of might and magic V

I've played all the HMM games and was really looking forward to this one too. I was extreamly disappointed with it. I did not like the new graphics, they seemed too cartoony to me. They did away with caravans which I enjoyed in HMM4. I enjoy playing the side quests more than I enjoy the Main quests and HMM5 didn't have very many of them. An OK game but not worth $49.99. If you're a HMM fan - wait for the price to go down.

if only...

i have a intel p4 3.0ghz HT with a g-force 7800 overclocked and 2gig of ram and there is zero slowdown to the game. it takes no longer than a split second to load to any other screen. so whoever was whinin bout their game bein slow with their super processor and ram must have a crap video card which is y they chose to not list that detail.

graphics are very nice on the very high setting (still no game slowdown) and sound is nice tho im usually listening to music so i pay it no attention.

campaigns are pretty straight forward. run around as long as u like doin whatever til u fell ur tuff enough to win. make sure u reach ur lvl cap for the scenario. most early maps there is no other "player" pressuring you so ur free to pass for 100 turns if u like and keep recruiting from the free buildings on the map every 7 turns.

now the bad part. no map editor. which is a big no-no in games like this. and there seems to be an issue with drivers or other map "holes" that causes the game to crash to desktop or restart ur pc randomly. on average i encounter this once per hour, so i try to save at the start of every game week or after important battles. i would rather be able to just play the maps thru without saving as when i save i feel i have cheated.

so this gets 5 stars for fun because if these issues were to be fixed or added this would be a very addicting game. overall is a 3 because they didnt care to do this which makes me doubt their ability to handle it in the future. if they didnt care enough at first, why would they care enough after after u already bought it. and since the crash thing is so overbearing (as it also somehow alienates my drivers so if i were to try to play other games i must restart my pc) i am better off to play something else.

I'm a long-time fan of HOMM, having thoroughly played all 4 prior versions. It has always been one of my favorite games.

Version 5 stays true to the franchise. As other reviewers noted, it builds off of 3 more than 4, but it definitely adds new elements and higher strategic complication to give it parallels to 4.

The 3D graphics are very cool, but the new system demands can be frustrating. My computer meets the requirements, but the wait time for game saves and loads can be pretty tedious and prolongs and interrupts the time spent playing the game.

I still recommend it, but want others to be forewarned.

Good, but could have been a little better

As a big fan of the series (from Heroes II to current), I thought I knew what I'd could expect from this game. Some flashy graphic updates, a little AI tweak, and a few more units. Basically that's what you get with every new Heroes version. And this one was no different.

The graphics are amazing, but as is mentioned many times elsewhere, that wears off shortly into the game. The AI is much better than Heroes IV, but it's still not perfect. It often seems like on Normal difficulty that it's too easy, but if you notch it up one level it jumps substantially. The additional units and other items is nice, but only to be expected.

Bottom line is: the game-play is just as addictive as the previous versions. I really wish they'd expanded the battlefield a little (like Masters of Magic...old game) and make it more of a strategic challenge. I guess they figure if they make the battles too long, you'll really get sick of repeated animations (though you can skip through most).

I'm still enjoying this game and I look forward to downloading numerous mods to extend the game-play further. If you enjoyed the older versions of Heroes, you'll get more of the same from this one... with better eye candy.

Almost perfect in my opinion

There are a few glaring bugs in this game that the developers are trying to fix, but I'm afraid its too little too late. I'm a bigtime strategy fan, including turn based. I've played games like Disciples 2, and found that even though this game was totally different than what I was used to, I found it to be very fun. I would say to wait for a combo deal with this and the addon, or see if they are put in the same package, because the addon really completes this game (in the sense that it seems a little half baked)

Bottom line: If you like strategy specifically, then get this, if you're a casual gamer, then do your homework reading reviews and such to see if this is a game you really want.

Is not the boring Might and Magic IV is an amazing piece of graphics a detail line history. You play in a 3D map with a full an totally charming scenarios. I began playing the game this week, and the game is adictive. Good for the tutorial too, you advance and progressive you learn about all the features in the World.
I enjoy the game, I will like that you like too. For the guy with microsoft problems, you need a good graphics card, for explode the world, and the patch 1.1 is availablein the site.
I will hope a Might And Magic for PS3 :)

I'd love this if it worked

I was hooked on this series since it started and own versions 2 and 3 with the expansion packs. It is one of the most fun series I've ever seen. I purchased version 5 as soon as it was available but was extremely dissapointed. It took 3 attempts to load it successfully and then I couldn't get the scenarios to run. Ubisoft customer support was quick to point out that no intel video is supported. I run all the other games on my Toshiba Satellite M45 but they've decided that this version needs more. I strongly recommend visiting the ubisoft forum and looking at all the issues before purchase. If you've got a system it will run on I'm sure you'll love it.

What's with the lag?

The game is beautiful, the graphics are amazing, the gameplay is very interesting. However, there is a neverending lag. My computer exceeds the game requirements and i don't know where the lag is coming from. The game would've been great if it wasn't for the lag.

Buyer Beware

I'd love to write a full review about this game, but Ubisoft will not fix a critical issue. Yes, even with patch v1.2

If your computer is part of a network, and you backup up your My Documents folder using offline file synchronization, you cannot play this game for any length of time. Oh sure, it will load up and run, but you cannot save games. Unfortunately, this is not listed as part of the criteria for playing the game -- that you cannot recall your saved games if you are (like most intelligent people do), backing up your files. Ubisoft responds to this by saying:

"The game will not save correctly to or work correctly if the My Documents folder is being stored on a network drive and apparently this was intentional. This was called for by
Microsoft Windows XP guidelines for developers."

So Ubisoft is saying that the game will not work on a network where users synch their files to the server, that they blame Microsoft (which makes no sense), and that they do not consider this an issue worthy of addressing. Oh wait, except I paid $55 for a couple of useless CD's and a lot of wasted time trying to fix the issue.

Great Game

Great game. I look forward to the custom map generator and expansion packs. I have noticed that people either think the game is great or they think its horrible. I believe it has everything to do with the list of supported graphics cards. I have an nVidia 256MB card and I have no problems. Just make sure to check to see if your graphics card is compatible.
