Turok on ps2

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 6

For those gamers who only ever played playstation, Turok was one
of the biggest franchises on the n64 and with good reason. Turok
2 was easily one of the best first person shooters on a system
that was home to many a great fps. It was in my opinion the best looking game on the n64 as well...

Good game, but not great

First off this game is nowhere near as bad as some reviewers are claiming it is. I am not sure why some hate this game but cross platforming seems to play in here. This game is a platformer more than a FPS basically, so puzzles will show up but they are quite simple. The best part of the game is combat, which is the game itself. The bows, genades, guns are all very cool and sniping a lizardman's head off is quite enjoyable.

With that said, the game is a good, fun game that is enjoyable to play. The graphics are pretty good and the gameplay is solid. This is not necessarily a great game that I call my friends about, though there are many moment within the game that could be worth doing so. You basically spend the game killing lizardmen and occasionally dinos.

It is not better than Halo for it does not do anything new to the FPS genre, nor is it anywhere near as immersive as Halo. The only vehicle you use is a teradon, and that is still all based on stages. You are not as free throughout the game and there is no squad based combat.

Maybe gamers are just a little too spoiled with the likes of GTAIII and can't enjoy anything less. I still enjoyed this game for it's shooting action and gameplay. I might recommend renting it or buying it from an establishment that allows returns of open products.

VERY POOR!!! NOT AT ALL LIKE OTHER TUROK GAMES!

OK I am judging this game on the other Turok games.
Turok one was a great one player game, Turok 2 was also a great one player game with decent(not fantastic) multi-player.
This game is NOTHING like them at all. you spend WAY too many levels flying a stupid bird in meaningless missions that drag slowly by and all the levels are WAY too similar.
Instead of having like 8 worlds and portals like the other ones you have ten thousand short levels that pretty much all have the same objectives.I got sick of this game after getting to the 5th stage. At the end the boss is dissappointing as well, its a guy riding on a sort of t-rex type thing with guns on it. LAME!!!
What happened to all the BIG HUGE Bosses like in the previous Turok games? the boss in this one is small and stupid looking and easy. all the bosses are. Definitely rent first Don't buy without trying. like i said it is NOthing like the other Turok games AT ALL!!!
THE WEAPONS SUCK TOO! I cant figure out why some other reviewer said they were cool, they are lame andyou only get to use the three or four weapons that are in each level. If you found the rocket launcher in level three, you wont have it in level four!
I gave this game 2stars because graphically it is cool and it is a Turok Game.
Definitely not worth buying in my opinion. But try it for yourself by renting first.

Great Shooter

Great shooter game that gets tougher as you go. Tougher as in the Slegs get meaner and greater in number, not tougher as in puzzles you get stuck on for weeks on end. There are a few puzzles to solve along the way but they are easy to do and then you get right back into the shooting. Wonderful game. A+++

Unfair reviews by nerds

I have never written a game review before, that I can remember, so this won't be all professional or anything. I felt strongly compelled, though, to write a review for this game. It's getting such a bad rap. This review is for people who might want to buy the game, but are scared by the "OMG SUXXORZ" reviews here. I know that when I check out something on Amazon, I always look at the lowest-rated reviews first. But I happen to know for sure this game deserves better than what's been said. Oh, and I'm not a turok groupie, either. This is unbiased.

You should know that the one-star reviews here are likely the products of either:
1) Nerds who are WAAAAY too nit-picky about their videogames and criticize every minute, trivial detail, as if they could program a better game. Pfft.
Or
2) People who bought this game when it first came out. Those people paid $50 for the game. If I were them, I'd be angry, too. Then again, in my opinion NO game is worth fifty bucks. That's just me though. The point is, this game can now be had for under ten dollars (I bought it new for five) and it is definitely worth it.

Let's just say this is an adequate, though overlong FPS with some flying stages thrown in. It wasnt the game of the year, and if you try and play it in one sitting you will probably get bored. The PS2 version only supports 2-player, not 4. The game is flawed in some ways. But other than that, I think for five bucks, this is absolutely a good buy for an FPS fan. Now I will just rant/rave, you don't really need to read it unless you're particularly interested.

The worst aspect of the game is the weapons. The only thing about the game that actually pissed me off. Here's the jist: You CAN use a lot of weapons in this game, but you probably WON'T, because they suck...and it's boring to go through this very long game using only three or four of all that you could be using.

There is a variety to be had, and some are really cool. Anti-gravity gun, for example. Lifts the dude up, then slams him into the wall, SPLAT. Or the secondary mode on the rocket launcher that shoots these little thingies that devour the enemy like pirhanas. Well, not pirhanas since I don't think it works underwater, but anyway.
There is no onscreen menu to quickly select any weapon. You scroll through them forwards or backwards, ala GTA. However, unlike GTA, the scrolling process is SLOOOW. This is annoying, especially in combat.
Another irritating thing the game does, is take away your weapons. Lets say that in level 2 you find the pistol. Beat level 2, start level 3. But where's your pistol? Gone. This is annoying. Perhaps you have to find the pistol again? This was bothersome.
By far, the biggest weapons issue is that most of them are weak and/or useless in close or hectic combat. As mentioned, it takes forever to scroll through them. Even though there are some cool weapons, they don't do much damage, especially compared to the enemies' firepower.
It just seems like having such a selection was a waste. I played through the whole game, and my weapons of choice - the most damaging, and accurate - were the first three you find in the game. The most primitive.

The sound in this game kinda sucks. Personally I found the music annoying, but it can be turned off. What was puzzling to me was the plethora of atmospheric sound, with the neglect to enemy/gameplay sound effects. Its like they left the weirdest things out. You can hear a stegosaurus rambling through the grass, or a tiny dinosaur munching away on another dead dino's carcass, and yet the waterfalls are dead silent. It was just weird. The enemies are even worse. Maybe this part of the game was rushed. I dont know, but I really dont get how they could go so all-out for the ambience, then be so half-assed with the gameplay. Oh well, it doesnt detract much from the gameplay.

The graphics are fine in this game. The way other reviewers were crying about it, made it sound like Spelunker. Visually this game looks great, you can tell a LOT of work went into the outdoor levels. So a certain species of bush always looks pixelated, so the trees and rocks aren't fabulous. Who cares? Trust me, this game looks great and definitely gets the job done.

As far as glitches go, I'll try and give you some perspective. Vice City has ten times the glitches this game has, and Vice City's glitches are twenty times worse than the "glitches" in this game. The glitches in this game are barely noticeable. It only froze once, while loading, and that was after me stupidly leaving my console on for days. The only real glitch that comes to mind is a teeny tiny hardly-noticeable framerate blip in the later levels, when you have a ton of enemies to take out. All that happens is when an enemy spawns there is an ever-so-slight skip.

Flying levels - These do not suck. I suspect the majority of naysayers just couldn't get the controls right - which isn't hard, by the way. I found the flying levels to be fun, visually interesting, and a nice break from the FPS levels. A much needed break for me, because for an FPS this game is LOOOONG. It did get a bit redundant, I admit. There are two scenarios, one being a fixed path where the game pushes you forward and you basically just dodge everything. Two being you are in a big area where you aren't pushed and can turn around and dive, and your objective is to blow up a number of things.

I think that covers the major whines people seem to have. If you demand absolute perfection from a game, even if it only costs five dollars (What's wrong with you?) Don't buy this. Otherwise, enjoy playing through it, and/or enjoy the multi-player mode. Down with anal-retentive, emo-whiny gamers. Happy shooting!

Not for everyone, but really good.

This game is not for everyone. You would have to have good experience in gaming. The story is not really strong during game-play, but durning the cut scences, you get the picture. It is really bloody! Awsome!!!! You can litrly shoot their limbs off one by one and even if there on the ground screaming [the dino-people] you can still shoot the limbs off and start spraying blood everywhere. You can get tons of weapons including 2 kinds of bows with several different arrow types, and the most insane hand-held weapon: THE WAR HAMMER! You who liked the old games are bound to love this one.

Don't bother.

I've played enough first person shooters to know that this one wasn't worth the time or money I spent on it. Graphics are so-so. Level designs aren't much better. The game play seems to drag and skip whenever the action heats up. At first, I thought the flight sim sequences were a novel idea, but the moment things started to get exciting, the game paused to load the next section which totally broke the game rhythm. Switching weapons also happens to be sluggish, making combat sequences far more difficult than they should be. Considering the quality of most games Acclaim puts out, this one was a major disappointment. If you're in the mood for an entertaining FPS, I would strongly suggest something like Deus Ex: The Conspiracy. The Medal of Honor and Red Faction series are also strong. I wish I could put a finger on what really irritated me about this game, but I can't--some games are a challenge while others are a chore to get through. Simply put, it's not fun.

Just pre-ordered -- AAA FPS

Just put my preorder in. Judging from what I've read on IGN, Gamespot, Game Informer, etc. I have to say this has the potential to be the FPS of the year. It's also a BIG game according to the previews, so I'm looking forward to getting some quality time in with the over the top turok arsenal.

WOW... what a freaken' disappointment

Like a lot of people I ran out and bought this much hyped game immediately, and like a lot of people I was sorely disappointed. This travesty ranges from the mediocre to the just plain bad. Most of the levels in this game are average at best and that's not including the horrible flight missions. The graphics are weak and the multiplayer is a freaking joke (on the PS2 anyway).
Overall I'd probably give this game one and a half stars but I can't, and to tell you the truth it doesn't pain me that much to have to settle for one star.

This game was just bad :(

The graphics were cool, but the controler thing was confusing! The game could have been better and I agree with all the other people who said this game [was bad]. I think people should rent this game before the buy it!
