Alias is a good game but not as good as I hoped

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 2 / 3
Date: June 04, 2004
Author: Amazon User

I expected to be playing this game in October 2003 and now having played it I'm left wondering, what took them so long. The aspects of the game that have been inputted by the cast and crew are great; the voices, the music, the storyline (even if the end is a bit poor).
However some of the features added by Acclaim are not up to standard. The sound effects are awful (especially the female enemies), Anna Espinosa and Sark have the same fighting sound effects as all the other enemies, if you die you go back to the main menu, it doesn't save the options, some of the characters look a little dodgy, especially Vaughn, who also fights like a girl (because he has the same moves as Syd) and the AI is dodgy at times (the amount of times a person calls for back-up and receives none as well as losing interest if Syd moves out of room or even to the other side of one).
But it's not all bad, some of the weapons are cool (I like broom and the spoon thing that never breaks). The controls are good even though some people may find the fighting a little random; this is probably because the same combination will give different moves depending on you location (near a wall or behind a character). Most people will probably find that Sydney can't jump but what she can do is flip forward, side ways and backwards. The costumes are good some taken from the show; one of the best costumes is used the least in the Tattoo parlour. The attention to detail of some of the background characters is poor (check out the Sark's drivers date in the casino) and the environments are a little bland.
The PS2 version is graphically inferior to the Xbox version as you might expect and it takes so long to load (maybe I've just got too used to my Xbox)
The fact that the well-known red wig used on the front cover that is not even in the game tells us that Acclaim are relying hugely on the success of the show to sell the game. That's the only reason I bought it. So a must for fans but if you're not a fan either start watching Alias or give this one a miss.

Best game I have ever played!

If your a fan of the series then you will like the game. It is a great chance to play Ms. Bristo. There were a few clitches in the game. I was also disapointed that there weren't more fighting movies. Overall the game was fun and a good way to pass the time.

Good even for new gamer

I'm relatively new to video gaming, but being a fan of Alias, I knew I had to play the game! It was frustrating learning the mechanics at first, but knowledge of the show and characters kept me interested. I found myself referring to a walk-thru for a few of the more complicated sections, but overall I enjoyed the game. It really mimmicked the essence of the show very well. I'm rating this a bit lower than I would like to because there are too many chances to die quickly and there are too few save points. But if you're an Alias fan, I'm sure you'll enjoy the game.

Alias TV fans should get Metal Gear and Splinter Cell fans 2

Sydney and most of the other characters in the show are in the game. In many ways, this game resembles Metal Gear quite a bit. The stealth, and necessary fights, the traps, etc. Of course, Metal Gear outclasses Alias but miles and miles. But Metal Gear fans will still find this game quite entertaining. The story is exciting. It is less stealth than Metal Gear. Well, the storyline in this Alias is basically 100% realistic in our world whereas Metal Gear is a bit reality plus fantasy. I certainly feel like a CIA agent playing this game.

That said, the movement and camera adjustments are not satisfactory. Sometimes, you could not get Syndey to look to direction because the graphics would not allow it. Most importantly, however, Sydney do not fight very well. The motions during the fight are slightly constrained by what I assume to be lacklustre design and effort; not very smooth graphics in combat mode.

Nevertheless, I mean, you couldn't really expect Metal Gear or Splinter Cell quality in every single stealth game. So I think all in all, Alias is a game worth the money. Something to do, to have fun. But don't expect life-shattering experiences.

'there's no one to trust and no way out'

"Behind every pretty face there's a secret but behind Sydney Bristow's there's a conspiracy, deception, suspicion, espionage and there's no one to trust and no way out."
I can imagine there was much conspiring at Acclaim H.Q once the brass saw this terrible game.
The deception is attempting to sell this game on game play.
My suspicion is that Acclaim H.Q realised they had a dud and did all they could to sell it on the back of Jennifer Garner.
And why not you may ask. Thats where the espionage shows it's evil face. Jennifer Garner and the other cast deliver an extrodinary and entertaining effort. But deep within the Acclaim staffer's ranks i suspect a lone programmer and an unwitting texture artist set about a dastardly plan to make this game bland, and boring. Ensuring the controls were unresponsive, the camera angles infuriating, and the save points too few and far between. Whilst being brazen enough to introduce a button smashing fight system, I believe that Acclaim H.Q may have felt that 'there's no one to trust and no way out' other than to release a game that could have been so much better, and was certainly promised to be great. If you are a true fan, wait for this game to hit the weekly shelf at your local Blockbuster...and then hire it. You won't be missing anything.

Alias Rocks and so does this game

I need to know every plot line in alias and this game fills me in. The creator of the show conceived this and the actors voice it and I love the opportunity to become like Jenifer Garner and go on a mission I wont forget that compares with the action of the tv show.

I Wanna get it!

I have played Dark Angel and I love the action! SO I think that Alias will be a great game! I've never seen the series but I've heard of it. And I've seen screenshots. I think it looks like Dark Angel. The graphics in Alias rock. The outfits look cool. The Sydney looks like herself. Intense action. What more could you ask for? I can't wait until it comes out!!! When I play it, I will write a review to help others decide if they should get it.

Unfortuanutley i think this game will stink. I like the series but come on how many games off of TV shows have really been any good. Just putting in my thought.

If you like the movie - you will like this game even more. It has everything a REAL game has to offer. The moment you play - you forget the real world and you are hooked. Bewitch yourself and play ALIAS.......
