I hesitated in purchasing this game because of the lukewarm reviews, but I loved it! Considering the lackluster (and that's being kind) choices the PS3 currently has in RPG's, I was desperate, but in my opinion, it paid off. I think the graphics are amazing. The plot is pretty good as well as the voice acting. I've seen an increasing trend in RPG releases for Xbox 360 and frankly, I'm upset at some developers like SE for Xbox 360 exclusives coming out. Anyway, I would recommend Enchanted Arms...you can't beat the price. I would also recommend the strategy guide.

Enchanted Arms
Aside from the thousands of handheld-style cutscenes this game is pretty entertaining. I recommend playing it with the Japanese voice overs though. The English ones are just awful. My friends and I enjoyed a good laugh at the English voices on this game. It's hard to decsribe this game to be honest. The fighting system is grid-style but without any kind of terrain. Also, there are probably too many random battles when they're available. Just play it. I had a great time with it as did the people that created it I'm sure.

Surprizingly great for the price.

I purchased this game for 16 dollars, and was expecting one to two hours of enjoyment at most because of the reviews on this site. I was surprized to be at hour 20 now and enjoying it even more! The graphics are definately not top notch, but they are very much viewable, and the story is what catched my attention. So far, it's very intuiative and interesting. I read that one person hated the voice of the characters, to them I must state, "I don't know, i am playing it with japanese voices and english subtitles" because simply, the japanese voices are awesome and the subs make it more of a genuine JRPG experience. Is it final fantasy? No way. Not saying it is, but it's definately a great experience and well worth the 20 bucks retail for this title. The cut scenes are basic, but get the point and story across. The action is top notch and the battle system is very fun when you get the hang of it and definately adds strategy into the mix.
Overall I gave this a 4 star review. There are of course things that I would consider to improve, but for 20 dollars.... it's definately worth the purchase. Don't rent this title...Buy it!

Great Price, Very Enjoyable Turn-Based Role Player

I enjoyed the game to it's fullest.
I was not a huge fan of turn-based role players but this game sold it to me.
Nice environment graphics and excellent spell cast graphics.
Characters were very cartonnish but it adds to the Anime feel so I didn't mind.
Nice story line and game progression through it.
The bosses are a bit easy.
For this price it is well worth it for the hours of game play you will get out of it.
I played for aroung 48 hours including afk time.
Buy it if you like or think you may like turn-based role playing games.
I now cannot wait for Final Fantasy.

Fantastic RPG For The PS3

For under $20, you can't go wrong with Enchanted Arms.

You'll get over 50 hours of play from this game, collecting golems that help your characters in battle as you progress. You won't be strong enough to get some of them at first, or you'll overlook them, so even after you've been through an area going back to explore it again can yield positive results.

Combat is turn-based. If you're into real-time hack-n-slash this isn't going to get your blood pumping. There are so many possible party combinations that can be made with your main characters and the golems that you collect that you'll want to keep tweaking to see what crazy combos you can come up with.

If you're running low on cash, there are several mini-games you can play at the casino... none of which are too exciting, but if you can learn to time stopping the slot machine wheels just right, money will be no problem for you.

This is a long game. You're going to get a LOT of enjoyment out of it, especially for $20. I hope there will be more PS3 RPGs out before long, but until then, this will keep you busy for awhile.

Enchanted Arms

It almost gives you the feel of a Final Fantasy game, but a whole lot easier. If you are a gamer playing a RPG for the first time, then that will greatly help you.

When I first saw this game I thought it looked cool. Over 130 playable characters, RPG, PS3...It should have been good, but meh...Turn based, less than appealing gameplay, special effects are cheap...

It is an OK game if you like turn based games and whatnot, but for the average gamer, just pass on this. This is strictly for the Hardcore RPGer!

Nice game like old RPGs

An Awesome Fantasy turn based JRPG game to start things off for next gen. also i would really like to thank amazon alot it was estimated to come at the Feb 8th 2008 but... it came at feb 5th 2008... wow... just wow Speed!!! THX SO FREAKIN MUCH AMAZON!! XD Now with the review...

Game-Play: 7/10 -Turn based is okay but id rather have a Action RPG but its good to refresh your self.

Sound/Music/Voice acting: 9/10 -Very awesome music Great Sound effects and Perfect Voice acting!! Sept 1 girl but thats all. all in all english dub was better.

Story: 9/10 -An Awesome final Fantasy type of story. feels very generic at some points but in this Fantasy Si-Fi Mytholgy kinda thing it still falls into place well.

Characters: 8/10 -Very Unique Cast of Characters...some are a tad overboard but all in all there pretty much cool.

Graphics: 7/10 -For a PS3 Game i must admit at some points it truely does fall short here...PS3 is a VERY POWERFUL GAMING SYSTEM...and it seems this game only push low points in terms of Graphics but thats okay its still Decent Enough to make every thing crisp and Clean for a nice shine and Remember its the VERY first JRPG EVER!!!! For the PS3 AND 360.

Replay Value: 5/10 -Im not to sure on this one yet so im being Stable.

Price Value: 10/10 -MY GOD! at a hair short of 25 Dollars from Amazon.com its WELL Worth it you lose NOTHING here what so ever 25 bux is well worth this game for the 50 hours+ of gameplay alone.

Overall: 9.5/10 -A Very Great JRPG For a starting for the PS3 System. i cant wait fro anymore JRPGs on the way keep them coming!

I hadn't heard very good things about Enchanted Arms, but I was still amazed when I saw the game. I'm doubtless I'll get killed on "was this review helpful for you", but I wasted my time and money on this game, and hopefully I can help someone avoid the same mistake.

The opening cinematic was impressive. Throughout the game the graphics were par-level for other current games. Overall, it's a unabashed Final Fantasy rip-off. The character dialogue was ridiculous and the translations were not quite right. The game broke no new ground in gameplay.

Other reviewers have noted that the game became more fun after an hour or two of play. Suffering through 15 minutes of the character deciding what he wanted for lunch, although I continued to play, I'm afraid I reached the point of no return on this game. The plot is directionless and rittled with cliche. The most incriminating part of the game is wading through the "story" by watching two characters speak to each other. They aren't even animated. They move their arms and their mouths making generic motions that are supposed to simulate them speaking, I guess. Story elements like character development were skillfully hidden amidst all the lame dialogue. I didn't know they made games this bad still (that weren't a movie-to-game scenerio). I'm a big RPG fan, but I felt like my time might be better spent on nearly anything else. There are other excellent games as alternatives to this one.

As a side note: My 10 year old nephew loves the game as it's a big step up from Pokemon. I'm not so sure.
