Complicated fight system

The story line seems to be good, but the fighting system its too tactical and complicated, about graphics, they are good but not for what a PS3 it is capable of.

so far the best rpg in the next-gen market...and for 20 bucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i can't believe this game didn't get the credit it deserved. i just think its awesome..great story, music, you can even create your own little monsters ( over 100) to help you. And most of all UNFORGETABLE CHARACTERS. the most charming and unforgetable character in the game so far ( im just starting the game), its the gay-character. personally its the 1st one ive ever seen in a videogame. the character portrays itself very gay.which i think its great, the character has a really cool sence of humor and really helps alot. for 20 dollars, its way better than blue dragon or eternal sonata. it just has that final fantasy touch to it, thats why its the king so far. UNTIL FINAL FANTASY VIII coming up real soon. ;)

Middle of the road quirky RPG w/inane redundant dialogue

Wow it isn't just the first 1 or 2 hrs that can be really hard to take in the world of ENCHANTED ARMS. An affordable PS3 game is always welcome and this one can be had cheaply but there are reasons. The voice acting as others have stated is truly unlistenable, in no small part because of the vampy Makoto character but it isn't the voices that make it so bad no that honor goes to the amazingly stiff, repetitive and awfully written dialogue. Toya will take you through little hold your hand tutorials that are 99% of the time a lesson in pressing X. There is some good here the graphics are decent and clean if a little linear and symetrical. Collecting the pokemonesque golems can be addictive and the grid battle turn based system can be fun in a lightly strategic way. It just feels like the game is always stopping to talk when Atsuma wants action, and throwing you into repetitive battles when you are craving a little depth to the storyline. Both of which would be fine if the storyline or battle system weren't so repetitive, and no pressing X to climb a ladder or move a platform doesn't really spruce up the gameplay. For some reason though (masochist?)I enjoyed myself but I had to switch to the japanese language voices just to avoid the mind crushingly dull dialogue and voice work. How a game manages to be weird and offbeat and drab at the same time is baffling but EArms pulls it off. In the end despite some occasionally nice looking graphics and a mildly intriguing golem (monster) capturing system Enchanted Arms is going to be harder to go back to as some really FINE RPGs hit the PS3 in coming months.

Enchanted Arms

It almost gives you the feel of a Final Fantasy game, but a whole lot easier. If you are a gamer playing a RPG for the first time, then that will greatly help you.

Fantastic RPG For The PS3

For under $20, you can't go wrong with Enchanted Arms.

You'll get over 50 hours of play from this game, collecting golems that help your characters in battle as you progress. You won't be strong enough to get some of them at first, or you'll overlook them, so even after you've been through an area going back to explore it again can yield positive results.

Combat is turn-based. If you're into real-time hack-n-slash this isn't going to get your blood pumping. There are so many possible party combinations that can be made with your main characters and the golems that you collect that you'll want to keep tweaking to see what crazy combos you can come up with.

If you're running low on cash, there are several mini-games you can play at the casino... none of which are too exciting, but if you can learn to time stopping the slot machine wheels just right, money will be no problem for you.

This is a long game. You're going to get a LOT of enjoyment out of it, especially for $20. I hope there will be more PS3 RPGs out before long, but until then, this will keep you busy for awhile.

I purchased this title for $10, and wouldn't have minded buying it for $50 had i known how good it was. This game is so perfectly designed that I could not believe it did not get popular.

General:
It has a very good story to tell, and has interesting and very likable characters (yes, even the homosexual guy is fun). Its localization is very well done, and the script is full of good-old RPG humor. Level layouts are also fairly linear, non-repetitive and fun to go through. Pacing between story elements, exploration and combat are generally very well balanced (except for one looong trip). Music is alright with mostly mediocre stuff, even though there are a couple of very decent tracks.

Graphics:
I am very happy with what's offered, but some folks will not be ~ it's close to 'next-gen' but not quite there. Graphics are clean and lively but the level of detail cannot rival what's in current high-budget games. Despite that, environment design is amazing and you can feel that the game conveys different moods perfectly. Still lacking some detail, all major characters (except the main character) are quite pleasant to look at. Special effects are high quality, and the game has very good FMVs at major events.

Combat:
The grid combat system is actually more fun than virtually every final fantasy game. The randomness of starting locations, no-hassle VP system, customizable characters and the fun selection of golems are plusses for the system. Random encounters are not really challenging when you play them right, but it's fun because you're rewarded depending on your efficiency. In boss fights, you will want to strategize and time your rounds correctly due to the grid system making attacks and healing a challenge to perfect.

One final comment... The game is extremely linear, and lacks depth. This is a desirable characteristic in my book, since I'm OCD about getting the whole experience from RPGs. It's a relief to just lay back and breeze through an RPG without having to worry about what sidequests or ultimate weapons I will miss if I don't follow step-by-step walkthroughs. Good to have this kind in the mix.

I'm very happy with the game and would give it a 9/10 rating since it does everything I care about correctly, except perhaps music which they did not always nail as well as they could've.

Great Price, Very Enjoyable Turn-Based Role Player

I enjoyed the game to it's fullest.
I was not a huge fan of turn-based role players but this game sold it to me.
Nice environment graphics and excellent spell cast graphics.
Characters were very cartonnish but it adds to the Anime feel so I didn't mind.
Nice story line and game progression through it.
The bosses are a bit easy.
For this price it is well worth it for the hours of game play you will get out of it.
I played for aroung 48 hours including afk time.
Buy it if you like or think you may like turn-based role playing games.
I now cannot wait for Final Fantasy.

Surprizingly great for the price.

I purchased this game for 16 dollars, and was expecting one to two hours of enjoyment at most because of the reviews on this site. I was surprized to be at hour 20 now and enjoying it even more! The graphics are definately not top notch, but they are very much viewable, and the story is what catched my attention. So far, it's very intuiative and interesting. I read that one person hated the voice of the characters, to them I must state, "I don't know, i am playing it with japanese voices and english subtitles" because simply, the japanese voices are awesome and the subs make it more of a genuine JRPG experience. Is it final fantasy? No way. Not saying it is, but it's definately a great experience and well worth the 20 bucks retail for this title. The cut scenes are basic, but get the point and story across. The action is top notch and the battle system is very fun when you get the hang of it and definately adds strategy into the mix.
Overall I gave this a 4 star review. There are of course things that I would consider to improve, but for 20 dollars.... it's definately worth the purchase. Don't rent this title...Buy it!

I hesitated in purchasing this game because of the lukewarm reviews, but I loved it! Considering the lackluster (and that's being kind) choices the PS3 currently has in RPG's, I was desperate, but in my opinion, it paid off. I think the graphics are amazing. The plot is pretty good as well as the voice acting. I've seen an increasing trend in RPG releases for Xbox 360 and frankly, I'm upset at some developers like SE for Xbox 360 exclusives coming out. Anyway, I would recommend Enchanted Arms...you can't beat the price. I would also recommend the strategy guide.
