Create a personalized version of Teen magazine featuring yourself and your friends, discover whether you and your favorite celebrity were meant to be soulmates, and decode the meaning of your dreams with Teen Digital Diva II, a cosmic guide to life in the new century. This package is composed of two separate programs. One is the original Teen Digital Diva, which helps users to self-publish a magazine. Diva II, the sequel, offers horoscope-related activities and a journal. The combination allows users a chance to experiment with simplified versions of programs that are usually available only as standalones--there is a makeover program, a quiz generator, and a journal. It also has a compatibility checker, which rates users' relationships with potential friends or sweethearts (or even celebrities) and is an absolute blast.
Presented via an appealing and sometimes humorous interface, the Digital Diva activities are utterly enjoyable. Cosmic horoscopes can be generated within several systems--star signs, Chinese astrology, numerology, and metasymbology--and are relatively detailed. The mystical makeovers rate your choice of hairstyles and accessories against these horoscopes, scoring you to show whether you have succeeded in capturing your karmic essence. Within the 'zine generator, you can create advice columns, personality quizzes, and fashion layouts as well as original articles.
Unfortunately, both programs have areas of inflexibility that render them disappointing. Neither is terribly Internet friendly. To upload a picture for the 'zine, for example, you have to get right out of Digital Diva. The 'zine page layouts rarely give users any choices in page design except in selecting the background color and text fonts. For users who find that content comes easily but are interested in controlling how magazine pages will look, this will be entirely frustrating. Cosmic horoscopes, when printed, provide graphic depictions of users' astrological data, but leave out the accompanying text. The makeover program provides a taste of the possibilities inherent in more powerful versions, but it has too few accessories, models, and sample hairstyles.
Still, for users who are more interested in just trying out the activities rather than ending up with a printed copy to take home and treasure forever, Teen Digital Diva II is very entertaining. --Alyx Dellamonica
