if you don't want to read a long review, skip to PROs and CONs at the end. This game has it's pro's and con's, but there are few cons. the pros first. You start the game with some cash and a few shops to buy parts at. You go around and use your money to make a meager mech (or scoot vehicle as the game calls them). you can pick from three different classes, Photon (light), Holy(medium), and Aeron(heavy). They all have there strengths and weakness and are well balanced. When you make a mech, you decide what type you want and can buy parts for that type because all parts (except optional equipment) are designed for a specific type of mech. You can customize the body type, the legs(which are highly customizable because you can have two-legged, four legged, and in the case of the photon, six-legged spider-like legs as well as wheeled mechs. some are like inline skates and others are like tanks.) You also buy two arms, which can be any number of ranged or melee weapons and you can also buy back weapons, which are heavier, like missiles and lasers. (the lasers rock, by the way because ammo is a great consideration in building a mech and lasers never run out of ammo, you only have to wait like 3 seconds to charge your lasers and one stream can decimate almost any opponent in less than 2 seconds. they are, however, the most expensive and heavy weapon in the game, but for good reasons) there is optional equipment, which uses up socket holes on your main body (2-8 depending on the body type and heavy/light level of it). I'll explain that in a sec....
Anyway, you can get optic camoflauge, which makes you virtually invisible for 5-20 secs depending on what kind you buy and then they recharge for a few secs and you can re-activate them. no one can lock any weapons on you while you are cloaked. they must use weapons like machine guns and lasers to hit you. there is also armor modules you can buy to make you tougher, but they use up socket holes too. you can also buy dozens of paint jobs and decals to spruce up your mech. and you also buy a targeting and pilot assist chip, which you can upgrade as you play, making your mech even more deadly.
As you play the game, you make money depending on how many mechs you destroy without getting destroyed yourself. it's basically an arena based game where you go in, shoot 'em up, and leave when you are about to die. if you get shot down before you leave, you have to pay repair costs, which reduce your profits greatly. With the money, you can buy new parts, or even make a whole new mech. there are 10 hangars in your garage, so you can have up to 10 mechs to choose from in the game. Also with the money you can upgrade your parts. You can either make them a higher level heavy part, which will usually increase durablitiy/damage done while reducing ammo, or make them lighter, and get more ammo and a lighter piece( because all the leg parts have different weight capacities) but do less damage. you can also upgrade legs to increase their weight capacity.
the only real cons to this game are that there aren't as many parts to choose from as one would hope and there are only a few arenas to rumble in (I think only 3 arenas) and there is no mission mode except that as you play and defeat certain players you get awards and go up in rank. the object of the game is to beat the area rankers and achieve the highest ranking and own the toughest mech. You can also play 2-4 multiplayer, and even load your personal mechs from story mode to decimate your friends with ;) that's my favorite part. If you like games that have long-lasting play value and endless customizabiltiy, get this game. Hope this review helped you make a decision about Phantom Crash.

Review

PROs
1) almost endless customizability options
2) smooth gameplay
3) great graphics
4) easy yet sophisticatingly complex controls
5) fun multi-player mode with the abilty to use your custom mechs against your friends
6) Nice sound effects that don't get annoying after time.
7) cool music, with a music shop to buy tons of songs for your background music

CONS
1) only 3 different arenas to fight in within story mode, and 4 for multiplayer
2) not LIVE enabled (bummer)
3) NO CHEAT CODES!!
4) multi-player matches are quick and painful for the losers as damage is dealt quickly. (but is that really a CON? I'm not so sure).

Blast from the Past

Phantom Crash is one heck of a cool game. The controls are almost identical to halo save for the shoulder guns on the B and Y buttons and the emergency dodges with the white and black ones. Its action packed and even involves some tactics with the ability to cloak sneak up and blast mechs into rubble.

Another interesting thing for those who own this game is that it is quite similiar to playstations Robo Pitt game. In robo pitt you could choose from several body/walk parts and could fully customize ur Bot with one of several weapons. All in all though, I like Phantom Crash better. ^_^

Awesome Game!! Good Price!!!

This is a great game you can modify the parts for your scoobee (tank robot thing) to fit your fiting style. The game has great graphics and a really good soundtrack with lots of songs for battle. The game dose get annoying in the way that all you are supposed to do is keep destroying a boss and move up in the ranking and don't have like aquest to find something or stuff like that. This is one of the first gams I played for My Xbox but it was one of the best.

Good game way too much dialog...

This game was originally done for Japan and then translated into English. So it has many of the stereotypical Japanese components. It takes place in Japan, Japanese characters, story mode, difficult to understand at first and a lot of the great Japanese innuendoes(sp?). Nothing is wrong with these except THERE IS SO MUCH TEXT AND DIALOGUE TO GET THROUGH YOU WANT TO DESTROY SOMETHING! Good thing that's the object of the game. Thank GOD a certain button combination skips it quickly-otherwise you cannot possibly play the game. If you can get through all the dialogue, its a good game. The gameplay is fun and challenging. The soundtrack is amazing! But it seems as if there are only three different boards (combat zones) with day and night. I guess that will probably get a little repetitive.

You earn money to upgrade by destroying other mechs and if you last long enough in the board you can challenge the area ranker. Destroy him/her and you can move on, to where I do not know. As far as I can tell you never loose your mech unless you run out of money to repair it. You mech is seriously customizeable beyond all belief all the way down to brand specific weapons to stickers to upgrading your animal chip controller intelligence, I'll admit it was daunting at first but you'll get the hang of it. You'll love the optic camouflage!

The controls are common XBOX controls, nice and intuitive. MOvement is easy inside the game. I have not beat the game yet or played the multiplayer so maybe this is a preliminary review. The game will not automatically save for you so don't forget to do that.

I give it only three stars because of all the damn dialogue and it seems to have only three boards(combat zones), get through that and you have a good game.

My Second Favorite Game

As a video game obbsessed monkey, I have played some good games, a lot of bad ones, and a select few that I LOVE. This is a game that falls into the third one. First off, itsa 3rd person shooter with GIANT robots. You make your own robot (which is positivly AWESOME) with weapons, invisibility thigies (called Optic Camoflage), legs, and numerous other objects. The robot building display is fairly simple to understand (requiring no less than 6th grade intelligence) and so is every other display/menu. The graphics are... umm... unreal. The gameplay is... umm... unreal also. So, rent or buy? BUY BUY BUY!!! But first rent to see if you like it.

Controls rather awkward...

I would use some type of arcade joystick for this game. Game is a little better than average, RENT it first though.

A Fun Game That Doesn't Take Itself Seriously

This game is a bit goofy, but that's part of what makes it so fun. It's pretty obvious that the dialog portions are translated directly from Japanese...but thats part of what makes it so enjoyable. You can spend all kinds of time just watching the characters talk back and forth, or go directly to the fighting. This game allows you to customize your Scoobie (Mech) many different ways, which can be fun all by itself. I found the controls to be quite easy to get used to for a third person game. If you're used to the control setup from "Halo", you'll already have this one down. Its a fun, kind of goofy game, and worth ($$$)...so its a great buy at ($$$).

Awesome Soundtrack !!!

If your into j-pop or games like Jet Grind Radio, you will love the "Sonic Amp" music store in this game, loads of tunes you can purchase in game and play whilst toolin' around in your custom 'Scoobie'(a kind of robot/tank) fighting your way up the ranks in the story mode.
Whilst there's a bit too much scrolling text between rumbles, which can slow down the action, the arena battles are sweet with some great graphical touches, like the invisibility cloaks and dust/particle affects during battles, a bit more work would have made this one top notch, stylish, Anime inspired mech combat game !
