I like the interface changes quite a bit. I found the old interface to be a bit clunky and there wasnt enough room for everything. I still dont like playing too much on the 3D chess sets, because I have a hard time concentrating on the game while im trying to figure out what the pieces are.
Where I thought the game was lacking was in the training department. Much of the training is just straight out of CM9K it seems. I havent looked over all of it yet of course, but from what I have seen, there is little new material.
- M. G Zierdt,
If you dont like it that much, I could use another copy for another machine, If you want to sell it, send your price to Amazon AT rickanddani DOT com, maybe you can get rid of it.

I WAS NOT ABLE TO USE IT WITH MY COMPUTER BECAUSE IT REQUIRES TOO MUCH MEMORY USE. YOU HAVE TO INSTALL 3 OR 4 C/D'S INTO YOUR COMPUTER. I HAVE A 2 G/B COMPUTER THAT I JUST GOT AND MORE THAN HALF OF MY MEMORY WAS USED BECAUSE OF THIS GAME. IT GAVE ME WARNING ABOUT THE MEMORY SO I UNINSTALLED. I AM GOING TO HAVE TO BUY EXTERNAL MEMORY FOR THIS ONE.

I really enjoyed this product. I've been playing for some time, but this product was able to give me a better understanding and an edge over my usual opponents. The academy section is great

Chessmaster is a very useful tool if you are thinking of learning chess. The academy section makes learning chess fun and easy. It teaches you the basic movements and then it builds up and teaches you about pawn structure and strategy. Very useful exercises that will make you think, instead of making mechanical movements. My complaints are that I wish there were more endgame exercises. Also, it teaches one how to mate with rook and queen, but neglects to teach how to mate with two bishops and bishop and knight. It is difficult to mate with bishop and knight and it would have been a BIG plus if they had a section about that. Overall though this is a very good buy. You will learn a lot and it is not that expensive.

This is a very cool game for those of us who play chess regularly and just want some pointers on how to become better. I dont think this would help chess masters get better, but like I said it is great for someone who knows chess and wants some advice on how to become better.

Chessmaster 10 has proven to be all the program I needed. It provides graduated play and analysis to track your improvement. It loaded and runs with out any errors. If you are a regular chess enthusiast who is looking for a good time playing -- This is probably a good fit for you. If you are a Chess wizard -- Look elsewhere!
Pleasantly surprised

I'm a very casual live player; I have not played a human in over 15 years. I've also never been a PC Gamer either.
However, I recently bought chess software for my new Motorola MPx220 smartphone to pass time on flights, and I got the bug to play. I felt like I wanted to trade up and play chess on my PC to entertain myself.
Anyway, I surfed around for a few hours and it seems the purists, studs and brainaics play Fritz software because of its chess engine modularity and pure game playing strength.
For the rest of us, however, this game will thoroughly entertain and thrash us competitively. The training aids are a real gas, and you can 'cheat' to beat the virtual competitor anytime you need to for an ego refresh. The graduated skill levels are a real plus, but at lower-levels they sometimes blunder more than me. The graphics and controls in training mode work very powerfully, and they add to enjoyment and game awareness.
I have two DVD/CD drives on my XP platform (a Dell desktop with an Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 processor with Hypertheading). The software loaded effortlessly and works flawlessly. My drives did not get hosed. One of the drives is a Sony read/write and the other is a Samsung read-only drive.
I could not create a backup disk of the game disk with my Sonic Software Disk Copy utility. Even on raw mode, the copy routine was stopped due to illegal activity.
This is a pain in the neck, but for the price, I can get a new game if I wear this disk out by rough handling.
The DVD/CD drive does not seem busy once the game starts. The disk must be acting as a sentry more than anything else.
Great teacher and great fun

As a long time chess player I am always looking to improve my game. I bought this expecting nice simple teaching software instead i got much more. This has puzzles, three types of academies, more AI Players with distinct really styles. It seams in most chess games that you can memorize plays and defeat them regardless of skill. This game is different and so adaptive.

I have learned a lot about the fundamentals of chess so far, and it's great to have so many different game types...it's makes for an interesting way to develop chess skills when you have no human opponent.

"Chessmaster 10th Edition" has a nice set of classes, for people who want to learn more about chess; a variety of opponents at different levels, so you won't get frustrated or borred; and a huge variety of chessboards. My daughter's favorite is the fairy tale animated chess board, where the pegasus Rook flies from one square to another. The game automatically redesigns itself to suit the player's age -- for example, young beginners will receive easy enough opponents that they won't get frustrated. The lessons are interesting, well split into small units, and sprinkled with wonderful "try it out" exercises. All told, I'm thrilled.
I have a three year old computer and had no troubles getting this game to run. Yes, you do have to put the CD into your CD reader each time, but most computer games require this, so I'm not sure why some reviewers are offended.
