I LIKE IT, IT'S A FUN GAME, BUT CO-OP GLITCHES & FREEZES SO MANY TIMES IT'S ALMOST NOT PLAYABLE...
I BOUGHT THIS AFTER PLAYING UNREAL CHAMPIONSHIP, & BEING VERY PLEASED WITH THAT TITLE...
THAT BEING SAID, THIS WAS A BIG LETDOWN...
THE STORY IS HARD TO FOLLOW, FOR XBOX AT THE TIME IT CAME OUT, AND THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THE PUBLICITY GAVE IT, THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A BETTER TITLE, YET IT STILL LOOKS LIKE THE ORIGINAL UNREAL FOR THE PC GRAPHICSWISE...
IF YOU HAVE ALL THE OTHER TITLES OUT THERE, THEN I GUESS YOU MIGHT WANNA TRY IT, OTHERWISE, I'D STRAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE, ITLL ONLY CAUSE HEARTACHE..

Stop comparing this to Halo.

Unreal 2 kicks ass, end of story. You're John Dalton, a TCA Marshal and you're dispatched through various planets to fight diverse enemies from monkey-like aliens to bloodthirsty Japanese mercenaries. You have a pretty good arsonal of weapons, my three favorite weapons are the assault rifle, grendade launcher (it fires six different grenades), and the missile launcher. The graphics are a little sucky but the gameplay is great.
XMP is killer, you get three different classes of soldiers, a lot of armed vehicles, and something that makes it a little more challenging, an energy station which you have to keep going or else your vehicles and turrets stop working. No game is the same as the previous one.
This game, along with Halo 2, will quench your thirst for an FPS.

I dont know if any of you guys remember the first doom on Super Nintindo, but this game is similar to it and that is sad! Today games should be around the level of high-tech. For example halo 2, games need to stay in that level or continue to get better which they are, (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, and future game systems to come).

Graphics: 2-D things in a 3-D world 1/10
Gameplay: bad 4/10
Sound: good and bad 3-5/10
Story: didnt really pay close attention 0/10
Replayable: NO 0/10
This game shouldn't have been for xbox at all. Its a discrace to xbox and the unreal series. Save your money for something better unless you really like the old stuff.
WARNING! - This is NOT like Unreal Championship

This is not a bad game, but I feel I MUST post words of caution here to potential buyers who are getting it for use on Xbox Live. Don't bother reading this review if you're looking for info on the 1-player part of the game.
If you're buying this game because you want to play a straight-up upgraded version of Unreal Championship on Xbox Live, you may be deeply disappointed. There are no standard fighting modes. No deathmatches. There is only one online game (and only 4 or 5 maps for that game), and if you don't like it, you're out of luck.
Other less-than-stellar points of caution:
- Load times are AWFUL. I mean, much much longer than any other Live game I have.
- You can not use your headsets in the lobby to talk to others.
- Almost all of the 4 or 5 available maps are way too large.
- People can and will join and drop from teams in the middle of your games, sometimes drastically throwing things off balance where one team has 6 players and another has 2.
All of this said, the one available online game IS somewhat fun and interesting. It does have the interesting element of basic shooter-meets-strategy. It's essentially a team-based capture the flag game, only you need to collect 4 flags instead of just 1. Where it gets a little different is that your team needs to maintain control of generators to power various extra (and needed ) items, such as automatic turrets, vehicles, force fields, etc. This adds a bit of strategy to the usual kill-kill-kill of the FPS, and I've enjoyed that so far.
Still, if you want an extremely solid FPS (first person shooter) on Xbox Live, Mech Assault and Unreal Championship are still better games. And for shooter-meets-strategy, Star Wars Clone Wars "Conquest" mode is still the top of the Xbox Live heap, IMHO.
This game is fun, don't get me wrong. I was just suprised and a bit disappointed by this game. I expected AT LEAST the things from the first Unreal for Xbox (like a standard Deathmatch option) to be here, and they're not. Though they have developed a pretty decent online game mode, if you don't like the one mode, you've wasted $40.
A Significant Disappointment

I don't want to repeat what the previous two reviews have said. I agree with it all, except the parts that say it is an okay game. It's not. The single player is simple, boring, graphics below average, too much dialogue, and takes way too long to load. The multi-player has some cool ideas and concepts to it, yet takes forever to load and the gameplay is slow. Why is it so much slower than Unreal Championship? Why does the PC version have so many game modes and the XBOX only has one option?
Bottom line: waste of $40, I hope to get $15 back when I trade it in.
Stay with the PC version

Yes folks, it's sad but true, but this game is a very poor port of the PC version. I wonder how the programers could waste the potential this game had on a machine that delivered us a firt gen game like Halo. I was excited about this game; although even the PC version is a less than fantastic game, i kind of liked it. Than comes the time for the Xbox version, and what a disappointment. The graphics are a mere shadow of the PC version. Like the other reviewer said, the cutscenes are terrible, i couldn't beliave my eyes. The graphics are bad for even those who never played the PC version. Not that i don't think that Xbox can recreate the graphics of the PC version, because a machine that can deliver us games like Halo and the wonderful "PC port" of Return to Castle Wolfenstein certainly can do that. Ok, the graphics are bad, but the gameplay is still good, right? Wrong, it feels like the programers didn't pay much attention in porting the gameplay to the Xbox control, because it's very jerky. At least the sound is still good, but that's it. I am a huge Xbox fan and i had high hopes for this game, but all i can say is to avoid it.

Warning: this game is not for kids!
Unreal 2 for the Xbox is a first person shooter (FPS) game. You play a space marine named John Dalton. You travel with your small crew of bounty hunters to different planets securing alien artifacts. The alien artifacts are believed to be parts of a super weapon. Everyone wants the weapon, including power hungry
aliens. Unreal 2 is very similar to the famous game "Halo", but it lacks the intensity and polish of, Halo. They even included some levels where you fight alongside space marines, but the A.I. is not very impressive. Everything in this game is just average. I felt bored in many of the levels because they required too much walking in an empty world and no action taking place. The voice acting is terrible. The actors sound like amatures reading the script.
Pros:
+good controls
+average graphics
+average sound effects
+lots of weapons
+long game
Cons:
-Halo rip-off
-long loading times
-no co-op gameplay
-too much walking
-severly scripted
-lacks excitement
-retarded voice-acting
-John Dalton sounds like a dork
I wouldn't recommend this game

I bought this game for the Xbox about a month ago, and have regretted it. Unreal II doesn't have much going for it. The graphics are average.
What it doesn't have going for it: Load time 1/10, Levels 4/10, AI 4/10, Online 2/10, Cutscne/Briefing 3/10, Replay 1/10.
The load times for this game are ridiculously long. The levels are all very simple and plain - I beat the game in under an hour on the hardest difficulty (not including load times). The enemy AI isn't very smart or hard to beat - they run at you and shoot at you with slow moving energy blasts half the time. The online play which was supposed to be good is actually very bad - I played this game online for about 20 minutes before I couldn't handle it anymore. The problem with the cutscenes and briefing is that one person may be talking to you and the game has multiple short segments for that person creating a terrible break between speech and graphics. The replay factor on this game is the worst of any game I have ever played. I can't even bring myself to play it again and I usually beat games at least 5 times before I get bored of it.
What it has going for it: Weapons 6/10
The weapons are the only thing that makes this game worth 2 stars. The weapons are all pretty basic and easy to use with the exception of the 6 type grenade launcher (who needs 6 different grenades on the same weapon?).
The Computer version isn't any better. The requirements are so steep that if you can run it on your computer, you are better off getting Doom 3. The gameplay is exactly the same as the Xbox I have heard.
Give it a try

Okay so yeah it's not Halo, but it still is a pretty fun first person shooter. I won't go into that, but I will go into the online stuff.
This is one of the first games that uses XBOX live as more of a strategic type of shooter game. You have to choose between 3 different classes of person (ranger, gunner, tech) who all have different strengths and weaknesses. Then, as a team, you have to work to strategically control different points on the map ranging from generators to turrets to deploy points.
I liked this because it put some kind of map based, almost starcrafish strategy into a multiplayer, real time first person shooter game.
If you get some guys of equal skill together who uses their different skills and weapons etc., this online part of Unreal 2 can be a lot of fun.

I played this game for 3 minutes and it didnt take me long to realize how horrible this game was. The first enemy I incountered I shot down and it had two frames of animation. Doom 3D had better graphics and animation than this steaming pile. There is nothing about this game that merrites a $40 price tag. Stay away from this game! I use the word game only becuase it is only playable by a gaming system. This is just one of the horrible games that came into existince since the first Halo came out.
