Thug 2 is a let down

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 7 / 7

I loved "Underground"! It is one of the best games I have ever played and I still enjoy playing it. "Thug 2" is disappointing! The graphics don't seem as good as the original "Underground", and the plot which made "Underground" so different from the previous games, in the series is weak. I have owned all the games in the series and this game is the first one I feel did not meet expectations.
Pros: It has the moves of "Underground" along with a few new additions. When you get "special" you can increase your adreline and slow time down to make moves seem more intense (and even a little easier). When you are not on your board you can graffiti, you can put stickers on walls.
Cons: The graphics do not seem as good. The plot is weak. It is not as easy to figure out where to go for the "goals". The game feels more like work then play and because of that is not as much fun as the original.
It seems like the game was thrown together, so it could be ready for Christmas and try to exploit the original "Underground". Save your money and rent it before you consider buying it.

Though it is not true skateboading, THUG 2 beats THUG by a mile

Ok THUG 2 is a well planned out, well thought out, and just plain fun game. I liked all the hidden characters you could be. I liked some of the crazy moves you could bust out (beaver blasting construction workers was a personal favorite). I liked watching Bam torment fellow skaters with some hillarios jokes. Just admit it, the game is very well done.............if it were a movie game for the movie "Jackass". This game was not at all true skateboarding which threw me off (though not entirely, having played the first THUG already) I expected more skateboarding and less idiotic stunts, and whose to say i was pleased? Very dissapointed, though the custom skater mode was top notch. But I expected more out of Neversoft when they pulled out this game, and i can only hope that Tony Hawk American Wastland wont belong in the dusty old garbage bin that the THUG games landed themselves in.

I love the tony hawk series but with this one they did dissapoint me. The soundtrack is awesome but other then that they did not hook me with this one. The story is kinda lame and alot of the mini games aren't even on skateboards. Thug 1 was cool but I say stick with tony hawk 4 thats the best out of the series.

It's an ok game

This game is kinda fun but i think the first one was just all around better. The saking is fun but gets boring after a while. The multiplayer has boring mods. The only thing i really liked was the ability to make your own spraypaint images.

For Kids or Not?

Ok, Ok, we get it. Tony hawk is fun and good. The problem is, it's the same game it was 10 years ago. Sure this time there are some destruction elements and some new players and new places, but blah blah blah. Same old, same old. This is a near perfect port of the ps2. It looks great, it plays great, and if you like completing tasks, you keep this game forever. Or, you'll figure out that you wasting insane amounts of time to complete stupid mundane tasks in order to unlock another fascinating new level and many more stupid tasks. We should call it Tony Hawk's puzzle skateboarding, since after the initial coolness of the new world wares off, you spend all of your time solving the puzzle of completing the task.

Bottom Line: Is it fun? As fun as every other Tony game they release yearly. Will I keep it? Not for long. Nothing new here. Buy the game now if you love all Tony Hawk games. Is it for kids? Not to bad if your kids want to just skate around.

THUG 2: THE JACKASS EDITION

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 20 / 23

There are a lot of pros and a lot of cons involved in THUG2. First let's examine the positive:

As always, the THPS/THUG series stays true to the roots of the gameplay mechanics. Always a blast to play - always a blast to go for the highest trick score. Another pro is that this game allows you to play Story Mode and Classic Mode, giving you the best of THPS and THUG gameplay. The customization options are expanded even further in this one with the creation of Create-a-graphic, making the THUG experience almost totally customizable. And as usual, humor is very relevant (more so than ever) in this THUG game. The addition of the "Freak Out" option is pretty cool. It's nothing unbelievable, but still can be cool.

Now onto the negative:

First of all, I feel that "Jackass" has had way to much influence in this game. The game actually feels like an episode of "Jackass" at times and this is not good. This is a skating game for heaven's sake. I like the subtle additions like Phil Margera and so forth, but the game feels like it's trying so hard to be called: THUG 2: JACKASS EDITION. Second of all, I'm a little disappointed in the amount of new levels available. There are only 6. The rest are all old skool levels - which is cool - but I would rather have had more new levels and less old ones, let's face it, we played them before!
Also, the game is VERY short. I beat story mode in about 8 hours. Classic in about 5.

The Mixed Bag:

As always, the soundtrack is a mixed bag. Guess it really depends on your taste. I don't care for it much, but it's a matter of taste. The graphics are decent, about the same as the first THUG I thought - nothing groundbreaking, but certainly not poor. The plot of story mode is a mixed bag as well, I thought it was rather convoluted but still seemed to hold my interest at some parts. Certainly not as good a story as the first THUG though.

The Conclusion:

I am a huge fan of this series, always have been since the first THPS. I am always excited when a new one comes out. I still have a great time playing this game and love to see what secrets I continue to unlock in the game...(for ex. I just heard that the "Star Wars Kid" is hidden somewhere in the game, but I haven't found him yet). What this game all comes down to - to me - is the gameplay and as usual, Tony doesn't fail there. The game is as fun as ever to play. In closing, I would say that the game is very worthy of the series, however, I would have made it more about skating and less about "Jackass"

A great game but I have to conclude that THUG1 was superior in most ways.

Final Grade: B+
(THUG1 I would give: A)

one thing i thought when i played the first thug was unbeliveable, then i went to E3 and saw thug2 and i just said to myself amazeing. It is a fantastic game and at our local game store I'll be first inline and at the strock of midnight on october 4, i'll be the first in my town to own it. I highly recomend it although it will never live up to the first and best thug.

Fun game with good controls...

I'm reviewing this game primarily from the perspective of someone who hasn't played ANY of the previous TH games. Yup - never played a skateboarding game before (except 720 years ago), plus I haven't played any of the BMX games either.

So I came into TH:UG2 with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised - this game's a lot of fun and quite deep. Several modes captured my attention: firstly I played the story mode through which I completed quickly but enjoyed. I then went onto classic mode which I'm having a blast with. Getting a certain number of goals opens up the next level and whilst tricky they aren't impossible. This kept my interest as I was keen to see what the next level looked like.

The controls intuitive which is amazing given the number of moves your guy can do. I guess the programmers have had several games to get this part right.

Graphically it's fairly cartoon-like. No sense of photorealism but that's not important or expected. I would have liked to see some ragdoll thrown in for spectacular wipe-outs, instead you go down via one of the stock pre-animated crashes. Otherwise the graphics and sound hold up well.

Some of the characters you're forced to use during storymode are bad though - not just graphically but the physics stinks - expecially obvious with Steve-o on the mechanical bull or the dude in the wheelchair.

I can live with these little gripes though. THUG2 is Fun, extensive and entertaining.

Alright, This Game was easy as all hell to beat, it took me at least 2 days to beat it, and i didnt even play it for that long on them day's....like 2 hours each....so it took me 4 hours to beat, it was an alright game, there were some fun places to skate at in it, and there were some retarded places, after you beat it there this one place, and its like in space or some bullsh*t like that...retarded, you can create players and make them look cool, and ive made a few and it wasnt bad....
overall, it wasnt the worst game, but it's not like anyone hasnt played Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1,2,3,4 and Tony Hawk Undergound before...

thug2 is great and fantastic!

I just got thug2 for xbox a few days ago, and just an hour into the game i realized that Tony Hawk's Underground 2: World Destruction Tour is byfar one of the best video games ever made. Everything is better than the original THUG. The levels are huge, jump off sykscrapers, and underground subways, more INTERactive, you can break through glass and go inside buildings. 2 in 1. TWO GAMES IN 1! STORYmode: You are teaming up against Team Hawk and Team Margera on a World Destruction Tour. CLASSICmode: Take on 150 classic goals (secret tape, skate letters, combo) in past levels. CANAda, AIRport, DOWNhilljam, LOSangeles, PHILAdelphia and more!! It's more than i could have hoped for! thug2 is a definite must-buy for any 'Tony Hawk Video Game Fan! You select your crew, you create your own tag and logo and spraypaint all over the level. Grind off cannons, and destroy other buildings. PLAY AS YOUself; and improved create a skater, park, goals, tricks. This is one of the best games of the series close to THPS2 and arguably one of the best games of 2004.
