A HUGE disappointment

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 8 / 10

I wanted to like this game.... I really did. I played it through, and it is now in the trash, as I would not even want to pawn this on a used buyer.

If you like games where you spend hours just getting by a silly puzzle (i.e. turning the analog thumb control various directions within a absurdly short time limit just to get inside a door).

The game possessed its fun moments, but they were far and few between, with the vast majority of time being spent repeating controller button combinations over and over again, combined with starting the level over and over again.....

By the end of the game, I was truly relieved it was over; and in this regard, the joy of destroying the disk was of much greater enjoyment than was laying the game. Indeed, I've been gaming for 15 years and this is the first time I've ever judged a game as so bad that it deserve the expense of a trashing.

The AI is absurd as well. At times, you get detected when it clear you are hidden, then at other times, you're right next to a guard -- face to face -- and he doesn't even notice.

Buyers beware, this is certainly NOT a "Splinter Cell", or anything even close. This is a true abomination of a game, that I literally prefer ANYTHING to. Indeed, I never thought it possible to actually hate a game, but this game is unique in this regard.

A Clear Case of Insanity

I played this game today through the first training mission and a portion of the second training mission. In the latter, the objective is to terminate a guard on station. For this game, I have to approach the guard, activate the A button, and duplicate a series of movements. I noticed that based on my position that these varied. Unfortunately, the cut scene didn't match my movements. It was consistently the same - my character would do a forward kick with the right leg, the guard would be aroused, and my character would be gun-butted by the alerted guard. I repeated this many times. The definition of insanity is repeating the same event over and over, aka Rogue Ops.

(There are better stealth games. I would recommend two games which incorporate stealth in their game design - Thief: Deadly Shadows and The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. I have both and can attest to their quality.)

A thinking person's game

This game can be very frustrating at times as there are very few clues as to how to achieve certain goals. You are forced to think and solve, just as in Splinter Cell. If you like to just shoot and run, this is not a game for you.
Thank heavens for the thermo-optical imager that allows you to have some idea who is waiting around the corner. The Fly Cam can also save your butt. At first I thought it was just "cute" but is absolutely necessary on some missions. Batteries not included so you have to gather extra batteries as well as ammunition and health. A well thought out game that has received very little publicity...it well may become a classic as did Splinter Cell. Note: the last two robots are defeatable but you have to use your brain, not just grenades.

Highly Underated

This is by far one of the best games I have played in a long time. This game balances stealth with outright combat, it is your choice how you do the missions with a couple of exceptions. Only a couple time do you have to use complete stealth. Other times you can kill but the AI will notice blood splatters on the wall from a gunshot, pool of blood on floor where a body was laying or even blood drops from where you carried a body to hide. When an enemy spots you most of the time if you can hide or kill him before he can call back-up he will give up looking and things calm down. Unlike some other games, ammo is no shortage in this game, whether shooting out lights, steam pipes to illuminate laser sensors or killing enemies you have plenty. You can pickpocket your enemies before killing them. You can search enemies after you kill them and a really special feature: if you use stealth hand to hand combat to disable an enemy it is not that simple. When you sneak up behind them and attack you will have to execute a series of moves for the attack to be succesful and a cutscence of your move plays. Spy tools are great like the fly cams, and throwing stars and your visor. The only complaint is short battery life and all special equipment runs on batteries. Not a easy game but great fun looking forward to a part 2 hopefully. I can't say enough good about this game.

Don't miss this game!!

Don't let the name put you off... 'Rogue Ops' might sound like a cheesy Van-Damme movie, but its actually one of the best action-stealth games out there!

You play 'Nikki Connors' who is a kick-ass military operative on a mission of personal revenge against the terrorists that killed her daughter. The game plays like a cross between 'Splinter Cell' and 'Tomb Raider', although the gameplay is far superior to Lara Crofts latest outing!

This game is HARD. But in a good way, in fact I would suggest the following... if you do buy this game, then do yourself a favour and don't cheat! It's a real treat to find a game that harks back to the old-school days when the player was treated with some respect.

All the answers are in the levels, and even the hardest puzzles are always possible to solve without resorting to a walkthrough. In fact, if you were to use a walkthrough then you'd miss out on some real FUN!

This is definitely on of my favourite games so far this year, and I'd put it up there on a par with Metroid Prime in terms of quality.

If you are looking for a quality game... treat yourself to a little one-on-one with Nikki Connors!!

Not just another Splinter Cell

This is a must have game for anyone who liked Splinter Cell, but wants a more non-linear and fast paced action game. Rogue Ops is more of a "decision making" game than Splinter Cell's "task solving" strategy . I'm about half through the game and have been playing with first trying to sneak past gaurds then replaying the scenario using head shots and neck breaks to see how it effects the outcome...Your decisions have both immediate and "down the line" consequences in this game. Don't assume that going for the quick kill is the easy way past a gaurd, more than once I've found myself knocked to the ground and shot by a gaurd while stalking up to him . Timing is crucial regardless of the option you choose. The gaurds WILL raise a general alarm, back up gaurds WILL arrive, and they all WILL continue to hunt you for quite some time if you don't get past them.
If I had one complaint, it would be that its graphics, while better than many games, are more "arcade-y" than Splinter Cell's. If Ubisoft and Kemco did a collaborative effort, you would have the only stealth game I would ever need.

nowhere near splinter cell

If you loved splinter cell like I did, you may feel tempted to get this game. It promises interesting stealth gameplay, yet it hardly delivers. First off, the gameplay control is very frustrating. Nikki walks around as if she were drunk; try to simply walk forward and she'll veere left and right. Also, there is practically zero freedom to do anything on the fly. Sure you can grapple and hang from ledges, but only when the "magic cursor" allows you to. Here's another example: you have a bomb with which to destroy a car; but you can't just put it anywhere on the car, oh no, it has to be near the little blinking "bomb goes here" light / prompt. This takes away from the feeling of freedom and relegates it to more of a game on rails feel. Secondly, the graphics are pretty lame by x box standards. Definitely rent this game first if you have any interest in it. Or hold off completely until Pandora Tomorrow is out...

FEMETAL GEAR SOLID!!!

First of all, I gave this game five stars to "balance" the reviews among "positive" gamers who don't use the rating system in their reviews(hope you don't mind). To me, it's a 4-star game, and quite an impressive entry for an unknown title and developer, even if the game seems a little rushed in its development and storyline. This game has such wonderful cheesiness, it's like a 1990's straight-to-VHS action adventure which makes it worth every penny of its Van Damme price.
What really impresses me is the way that Kemco did their homework to create a game that adapted the best aspects of a Metal Gear adventure with a Lara Croft-ish character and Tenchu stealth attacks. In fact, I was so disappointed with PS2's TR:Angel of Darkness, I had to give this game a try and loved every stealth-kill moment and outsmarting every trap(Of course, resetting the game always helps). Yes, it's sometimes frustrating, but at least you can replay missions and become a death-bit*h from hell on your victims, and still feel good about being a man.
This game could have been a sub-chapter in the Lara Croft's saga, but it's better leaving Nikki Conners on her own so she can deal some unique wood choppin' spine splits, and then tell James Bond that a true Englishman always prefers Gin in his Martini.
