LIKE IT BETTER THAN I THOUGHT I WOULD

Predator Concrete Jungle sets up a new storyline with you playing the role as one of those great hunters. Seems you screwed up on Earth 100 years ago and left behind technology which the humans have now had a chance to figure out and use to build a great futuristic Metropolis run by street gangs, Voodoo Priests and other unsavory types. Your Predator clan now sends you back to Earth to clean up the mess. This is a third person actioneer where you play the predator and go about hunting down various objectives, killing them and taking parts as trophies. Unfortunately while trying to make a game that wasn't linear they succeeded in making one that was very confusing as far as figuring out just where you're supposed to go and who to kill. Now there are lots of neat abilities and weapons at your disposal as the Predator like plasma guns, spear guns, wrist blades and upgrades can be found throughout the game. You can also pull off a fairly wide variety of attacks and combos. This all leads to some cool, but ultimately repetitive animations of skinning bodies or beheadings which lose their cool factor pretty quickly after a few dozen times. You also have the Predator's stealth skills and cloaking at your disposal as well. There's even a pretty sweet voice mimicking trick you can use to lure your prey.

Graphics are fairly average. The scenery of the levels are a bit on the dull side although the Predator himself is quite awesome to behold. The sound is also somewhat average. It's not horrible but nothing stands out.

Overall it's just an ok game. It's not horrible in any one area but neither does it stand out in any area either. It's another fairly weak licensed game from a franchise that has never had a great game and may be time to retire.

Awesome Game, But May Only Appeal To Predator Fans

In the 1930's, a Yatja (a.k.a Predator), sought glory in his tribe by slaughtering mobsters in the hot climates of Louisiana. After succeeding in his mission, he made his way back to his ship with his trophy in hand. As he was about to approach his ship, he becomes trapped and tries to self destruct, but accidentally surviving the explosion. Man learning about the species because of the explosion, he is banned from his tribe for 100 years. Then, there is a chance to redeem himself. He must return to Earth, now the 2030's, and destroy the weapons humanity has created modeled after what the Yatja left behind in the 30's. That's where the game really begins. Basically, you play as the Predator trying to restore his honor.

The game play for this game takes a little while to get used to, but eventually comes natural. They have a training section that you use to learn the ropes which is extremely helpful, without it, it would be difficult to play. Even I still don't understand how everything works, but you learn enough to keep going. It's hard to get lost in the game since most of the time there is a flashing triangle that tells where to go, which is a good help. There is first person mode which you can use to get a closer look from far away.

The graphics are decent, the movie parts of the game are so detailed it's amazing, and the Predators look like real actors in costume. The look of the game is very detailed, especially with the Yatja, but not as detailed as the FMV movies. The Predator and the background look good, but the people could look better. One of the coolest parts is when you are hurt, you receive damage. The more you're hurt, the more you're bleeding, if you're not hurt, no blood.

All of the weapons that you have seen in the movies are here, the combistick, smart disc, everything! You also have the famous stealth camouflage. You live by honor. You don't kill defenseless people or it hurts your reputation. If you kill too many innocent people, you will fail your mission. There are also bonus missions that earn you things like alternate costumes and health upgrades.

My favorite extra on here is the ability to unlock different Predator costumes and you can play Predator from the first and second movie along with others.

This game gets mixed reviews. It's understandable. When it gets down to it, this game could have been better. The look is good, but more detail could have been added. The different visions are difficult to master. To access different weapons, you have to push the select button, but with no load time in-between pushing select and playing, which is a good thing. You can't climb up any building you want, just a few specific ones. So it has a few tedious things, but overall good.

Here's the bottom line, if you are a Predator fan, odds are you'll eat this up. Just being a Predator in a third-person environment with the world at your disposal is fun, I love it. But if you're not much of a Predator fan and you're just a casual gamer, rent this first. I suggest that fans and non-fans may want to rent it first. It's good, but there has been mixed reviews. You'll either like it or hate it, that's for sure.

Predator Concrete Jungle placed you in the role of the legendary Predator from the films but instead of a mimic plot of the films you get an original story told over the course of hundreds of years which provides a great insight of just how these nomadic hunters live. The game allows you to start out in training mode or jump right into the action. I was thankfull for the training mode because you will be using every button on the x-box controller. This is not a bad thing the wealth of attacks, gadgets, vision modes all the while controling the movement and camera angle takes a while to master. I'm not the greatest player on the planet but I had the controls mastered by the third mission (I did the training as well). The games maps load quickly and the level detail on the predator is very sharp, the bad guys are pretty sharp as well considering there are tons of them. The map layouts are done very well allowing you to be a predator climing up buildings, jumping from roof top to roof top all the while trying to remain unseen until your ready to pounce on your prey for a quick kill and then jump back to safety. Kills are very violent you can slice and dice or vaporize your enemy as you wish, even bare handed the predator is a foe to be reckoned with. (needless to say this game isn't for children) The predator also comes with various vision modes which are key to completing missions and upgrading his weapons cache. Mission objective appear in order with bonus missions on the side which reward you with power ups and weapons upgrades, you will be doing everything from running all out to catch bad guys before they get away to working in stealth mode it's a very nice mix. Are there any bad points to the game? It really depends on what your expecting, concrete jungle is not like GTA series allowing you to run around and pick your missions but I'm glad it's not it tells the story it keeps you on track and that's not a bad thing. The graphics are great the load time is short (at least on the x-box I cannot speak for the PS2) the control is well done but took me a bit to master. My only complaint I had thus far was that I had trouble with the camera once in a while when I was in areas where the walls were close to you (like an ally or small room). If you are a fan of the series you will no doubt enjoy this game it's a great game at a great price.

Good but not great

I think that some of the people who wrote the other reviews are to hard on the game. They all seem to fucus on the graphics on the game. Well the problem with the game is that the graphics are horrible,terrible,bad... just plain bad. But hey look at resident evil 2 on playstation people play that and they would still give it 8 out of 10. The story line of the game is very good. Well first you start of in the 1930's you jump out of window all beat up(not knowing why until towrds the end of the game). You have to run to your ship and get the heck out of the city. Well you dont! You fall and try to blow up yourself and the city. Once again you fail to suceed you survive. You have showed much disrespect surviving. You are banished to a world for many years only with your glaive(spear) expected to die. And once again you do not. So they come back to give you another chance to regain your honor. These phsyco guys have taken your technolgy and know its some kind of high tech futre city. Might i add you return to the same city. There on you play and get back your stuff. The thing i liked most about the game was the costumes and that you could upgrade your weapons to be much more... powerfull and cooler looking. There are certain attacks you can do called exucutions that are absolutley fabulous. Each bloody and quick. One of them is were you stick your wrist blades in there back and pull up ripping the head and the spinal cord out of the body. That is all for now. But just two more things. If you get frustrated just think for awhile of how to beat this guy or if your stuck in a building not knowing were to go or look at the directions in the mission objectives or just get a guide on the internet. the second thing is i seriously if your not a big predator fan and you dont really like the movies or book s you will hate the game but if you love the predator like me then well you will love this game( except for the graphics) thank you for reading my review.

Good Game, Could be better

First off let me say I am a huge predator fan. I was very excited for this game. I have fun playing the game but I do see why it has had some mixed reviews. The graphics are average, backgrounds are very plain. Graphics for the combat with people is sloppy. Also jumping due to the camera work is hard. You can't see where you are landing. Another bad thing is that there is not enough ability to save your game. Some levels have multi objectives if one is failed you have to start over.

Now lets talk about what was done well. The predator's graphics are done well, it looks great. Some reviews say the sound is bad. The predator sound effects are great, the music is average but not bad. The weapons and different vision modes are extremely cool. The cloaking feature is excellent. The predator looks great. The story is good and plays sort of like a new movie.

Overall I gave the game 4 stars for fun. I am a predator fan therefor I will have more fun playing this game than most. I gave the game 3 stars because the overall quality is average. If you are a predator fan this is a good purchase, if you are not I do not recommend this game.

its more a 3 and a 1/2

Predator looks out of place in this game. The Predator himself looks great & has a huge amount abilites & weapons & different sight visions. The way the Predator jumps up to buildings & has some realy nice weapons to use & alot of different combos. While the Predator looks realy good & detailed ,the people on the street look cartoonish & a little like people in the first spiderman game. And the missions are ok but theyre kinda on the kiddie side. It just felt like the Predator belongs in a cooler darker and more detailed enviroment & sharper detailed enemies. The Predator does have some great moves and alot of good weapons but he's just out of place in this game. The Predator himself deserves about 4.2 stars but the buildings and textures and the goofy looking people seem like there better suited for a kiddie game. 3 stars for the whole package.

If you like the Predator your in for a treat

Now I want to give this a 3.5 but they wont let me, Now there are a few problems I had with the game.1- the graphics should have been better, but the Pred models look amazing. The gameplay lacks in a few departments but overall I was quicte happy with the game, I mean was I started and learned the movies in about 10 mins , the game comes second nature to ya.Now it may be different for people who have never seen a predator movie, game, comic etc. before because that extra'knowledge' makes you a better hunter in the game.

Most of the game you need to determine how to hunt your prey the right way and thata what will make or brake you in this game. Some enemies need to be snuck up on stealth style, others need brute force to be beaten and others need to be sniped from long range. Its up to you to figure out the best way.An easy way to do that is to go into first person view( down on the D-pad) the pull the left trigger to lock on to an enemy, then depending on wich vision mode your in( thermal, tech,Neuro). Each will give you info on your locked on enemy after 3 or 4 seconds so you can determine there weaknesses tec.

Theres lots of great classic predator 'kills' in the game like d caps, inpales, body spliting, limb ripping etc. that are done by sneaking up behind an enemy while cloaked ,lock on to them in 3rd person then once you close enough a skull outlined in blue will appear over there head then simply press the X button(light attack) and the kill annimations take place.Cool stuff.

Now the Pred contraols quite well I must say like jumping up onto 3 story buildings with ease, tearing through enemies with upgraded weapons is a blast. There are 23 weapons , thats including there upgraded and unlocked versions of them selves. 7 costumes to unlock and 23 levels to beat.

Now after beating the game once dosnt leave a whole lot of reason the play it a few more times through, but some people like myself will have alot of fun with the game that they will play it through again on a harder difficulty.

Now I have also been told some people have troublewith the camera, you can switch between inverted and non for both horizontal and vertical, and chage the way the rest of the buttons are alyed out til you like them.

All in all I have had a great deal of fun playing ,unlocking, upgrading and beating this game.I urge every pred fan out there to at least pick this game up for a spin, I doubt you will be dissapointed. There are some minor problems but once you play the game for some time you'll become very used to the controls and camera work that you will be hunting, stalking and killing pesky humans like a pro hunter from another world.Just make sure you scan your prey once in awile to make sure your not killing unhonorable prey but only the strong aggressive hostile honorable prey you need to hunt.Because if you kill to many inocents you will fail the missions.

it dont get much worse

This game was horible. it got real good reviews and every one said it was real good and it even looked good . so i rented it and played it for about 20 minuts and couldnt handle it any more. the game has a good idea to it and being a predator is a real sick role but they turned a good idea into a bad nightmare. the grahpics are realy bad and the people look like legos and and the building and suroundings look like card board cut outs. not only is the look bad but the game play is the worst its very boring and gets old in about 5 minuts because all you do is run around lookin for gangsters to cut up over and over again. the gadgets are realy cool just like the ones from the movies but the controls are sloppy and locking on to people is sloppy and takes too long when there shooting you and hitin you with bats. i didnt think it could get much worse than the second predator movie but i was very wrong this is the worst.the only reason i give it 2 stars is because of the potential and the idea of the game which is good but they just screwed up on the whole game.even though i liked the first predator this just doesnt live up to it at all and all the predator freaks will be very mad when they play this. so listen to me and dont even rent it just forget they even made it and just think about how cool it could have been if it was a good game

Very good, but not without it's flaws.

I loved the predator series (along with Alien) for... since last summer, so I thought that this game would be a good first try, back before the long delay. when I got the game, I loved it.
story: as a Predator named Scarface, you mess up on a hunt in some made up city in the 1930s and you try to get to your ship, you trip, fall down a big hole, and try to blow your ship and yourself up. you survive, and because of some people important to the plot surviving, you get banished for 100 years by your clan-mates. you get another chance to restore your honor when the banishy thing is over, and it just so happens that the city you blew up rebuilt itself (not literally) and with the help of the plot-important characters who, by the way, stole your tech back in the 30s, becomes a very technologically advanced city. so now you have to kill these tech-stealing b-tards to restore your honor.
despite how I love it, it still has some mistakes:
first off, it looks like the developers focused mainly on our pred and his alternate costumes, which explains why the other people are a tiny bit... uh... not very well-detailed, like how the original Xbox games were.
second off, it's not entirely free-roam, like I heard once. it's more like, "do these missions any way you'd like, unless told to do it a certain way, then go to the next level".
and third off, it's a little too story driven.
Buy or rent?: rent if you are not sure, buy if you are.
there's my review. hope you enjoyed it, and enjoy the game.
