Sometimes there is more than one enemy at 3 O'clock. ;-)
Considering the fact that the terrains included are FIVE 12 kilometer x 12 kilometer (or about 8 mile x 8 mile) completely unique islands where having skill at reading a topographical map is a distinct advantage, the graphics are excellent. HDR lighting, real-time shadows, depth-of-field effects, multiple LOD's, a completely realistic moving starfield, real-time day/night cycle and lighting, flying insects and birds with their own A.I., real tidal cycles and wave action proportionate to the state of the weather. The list goes on. Soviet soldiers have never looked so realistic in a PC game.
The developers somehow managed to take a game that ran with 256 Megs of RAM and make it work WELL on a console with 64 Megs of RAM.
A great deal of lies are being told about this game, probably because it is such an EMBARRASSMENT to all of the many watered-down titles claiming to be tactical-shooters, World War II Online and the very old "SEAL Team" by Electronic Arts probably being the only two exceptions.
In considering whether to buy this title, one might consider that Operation Flashpoint: Elite is basically the first military SIMULATION to grace the X-Box.
If you want to play a game that actually simulates real Army combined-arms operations, then this is the game for you. You cannot, however, scratch its depth in a 30-minute taste. The more you explore the gameplay and the islands, the greater your realization will be that this is the tactical shooter you've always wanted to play.
If you would rather be playing Halo or Doom, this game is not for you. For those who used to play Doom on the PC because they did not know that "SEAL Team" existed, Operation Flashpoint: Elite will feel like the tactical playground you've always wanted.
Operation Flashpoint: Elite is such a full-featured and realistic tactical-shooter that if you are planning on serving in the United States Army or United States Marine Corps any time soon, it would behoove you to get this 60+ hours of scenario training under your belt before you ship out to Iraq or Afghanistan. Chances are that you will see the game during your military service, as there is a version made just for the military called VBS1.
If you join the rest of us on the X-Box Live battlefield, be sure to ask for help. You should find the community quite willing to lend advice. You've never seen teamwork play such a heavy role in the outcome of a mission as you will in Operation Flashpoint: Elite.

Operation Flashpoint was one of the best military games ever to come out for PC, and this is pretty much just a direct port of that game over to Xbox. So, if you have already played all the missions on PC, they're all here, unchanged on the Xbox version, so you might be a little bored with it
Other than that, this game is perfect. You hear some people bitch because the graphics aren't Halo level or whatever, but they're fine and really the fact that things look a little hazy farther away adds to the realism.
If you never played Operation Flashpoint on PC, I can't recommend this game highly enough. Ghost Recon was basically just a Flashpoint rip off, and Flashpoint does it better and offers you a more open ended experience, especially when compared with Ghost Recon 2 and its add ons.
Great, but Not Perfect

Are you in to realistic military games? Have you logged over 40 hours into Ghost Recon? Have you played Socom: U.S Navy Seals at your friends house more times than he has? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you will love this game. When you start up this game, you will proboly notice that the graphics aren't that good. That is the only flaw about this game. In 2001 this game was realeased on the PC, and it was great. It was basically an offline Battlefield 1942. Now thatit is on the X-Box it carries over the awesome action of the PC version and adds nice control and x-box live functionality.(Not a lot of people play online so you might have to do some searching) This game is a dedicated military simulation that takes place near the mid 80's. So you WW2 enthusiests might want to look elsewhere. This game also features a mission creator which isn't just a level creator. You choose both teams weapons, vehicles(there are a lot to choose from), and Spawn Points.
This is a great game. If you can get past the bad graphics, you will find a deep and imersive shooter. Of corse, if you want a modern day military simulation, you might want to try America's Army. If you want a little less realism try Ghost Recon. But if you want the best military sim ever, buy this game.
DISSAPOINTING!

This game has got to have the worst graphics I have ever seen. Ive seen n64 graphics better then this. Its a very bad game and tries to be realistic but if repeating everything twice in the game is realistic then it wins that award. What do you mean your probably saying? Well when one of your fellow squad members says something he constantly says it over and over. All you hear is enemie 3 clock. enemie 3 clock! got him!got him! Dont even look at this game on the shelf.
It really could be fun

Operation Flashpoint looked interesting to me at first. The screenshots on the back of the box looked nice and it seemed to have the aspects of a military shooter that I might like, such as Medal of Honor Allied Assault. When I first started the training mission, I got a look at the gameplay itself. The graphics aren't the best, but that is never enough to turn me away from a game. However, I couldn't get over the horrible looking face models of my soldiers. I don't mind the basicly square faces of the characters in Spiderman for the Playstation, yet I cringe whenever I see someones face in this game. The player movement must be some of the worst I've seen in a FPS. Everything responds slowly and moves in a jerky fashion. The game also gives you many useless options like being able to sit, salute and put your rifle on your back. For some reason, you run faster with the gun in your hands them you do when it's on your back... Just a few more complaints to get out of the way: The mission objectives are uninteristing. The enemy AI doesn't make any kind of effort to find cover; they just hit the dirt on sight and start fireing (sometimes they even start running twards me during a firefight, almost as if they want to get killed). The weapon effects are very dull and the voice acting is gritty. Now, for the good stuff that I could scrape out of this "game". The maps are huge. And wide open. You don't have to follow your troops around if you don't want to. The cars, trucks and jeeps are easy and fun to drive (I often find myseld finding a jeep at a base during a mission and go cruising around the countryside, which is by far the most fun I have had with this game) but the air vehicles are another story. The cocpit inside of the helicopters look really cool, but they would be more destrutive if I could get the thing to hold still. It's impossible to take aim at a target when your flying over it with speed. The other vehicles are fair, but still not the best in a game, although the variaty and freedome to jump into any vehicle you can find is great. The weapon selection is OK, but I wish that there were more fully automatic rifles. This game could be fun, but it either doesn't have enough meat on the bones or too much for the casual gamer to be able to take a bite out of.
great potential...just falls short

I bought this game a couple weeks before Christmas hoping it would sufice my appetite for a good first person shooter(at least until Christmas rolled around). My first and immediate complaints are the horrible graphics and sound. Graphics look as though the game was actually made during the Cold War and the voice overs are monotonous and knda goofy. The guns sound like cap guns and I've noticed no echoes. The controls are choppy and hard to get used to. Despite the bad graphics and horrible sound, the game is actually somewhat fun. Some of the missions are cool, and I enjoy the tactial approach. After playing graphically advanced games such as Halo 2 and the new Perfect Dark on the 360, I find it difficult to look past Flashpoints short commings and even more difficult not to say the game is already outdated. BEWARE!
BEST GAME I HAVE EVER PLAYED!!!!!
