This is arguably the best PC game that I have ever played! It unleashes on you like a Brian Lumley novel. The story line and atmosphere are knee-deep in blood and the macabre. With regards to gameplay, there is a little bit of everything. You can approach most quests with a multitude of tactics: run in blazing like Max Payne, slash and feast you way through like BloodRayne, use abilities and tactics like KOTOR, sneak past by hacking / lockpicking and seducing your way like in 007 or NOLF... As in Morrowind or Fable, you shape your own path but you get to do it in a vastly more hard edged but equally immersive environment.
Without belaboring the point, get this game! Doom 3 and all of the low ammo / severely hurt / stress related saves are someone elses problem now.
Great game ruined by bugs.

Quite honestly this game should be getting a five star but way to many bugs drag the game down and they are the kind of bugs that just shouldn't be present in a modern game.
With some luck a patch is released to sort things out because this is a brilliant game that is going to waste.
Interesting concept, but glitchy....

This game had a lot of promise when I first read about it. I love the idea of playing a vampire based RPG. Create your own vampire and play through the masquerade in many different styles depending on your character. Great idea, but unfortunately Troika fails to pull it off as well as you like. The controls are clunky and collision detection is a major problem. I have had several crashes to desktop and the graphics while decent for its time, are no longer up to par.If Troika had made it as a studio perhaps we would be in line to see a follow up, but alas its not to be. Only buy if you really like Vampire based games.
A Uniquely Mature, Smart and Entertaining Game

While you pretty much HAVE TO download the patch (1.02) on their website to play without too much trouble, this game is well worth the time and financial investments because there is simply no other game that offer an experience quite like this one. If you have read any modern vampire novels (such as those written by Ann Rice) and appreciate the imaginative possibility that vampires can be more than mindless bloodsuckers or the possibility of sophisticated vampire societies, then you would LOVE this game.
Don't let the art style fool you. This game is much more witty and colorful than an emo-boy's escape from reality. The dialogue writing and voice acting are great, and the richness of details in the environment is fantastic. You will get to explore the nightlife in downtown LA and Hollywood (just to name a few) like never before. What're you waiting for? Get it before this game is finally sold out.
One of the best games I have played

Graphics are ok. But the depth of the game completely makes up for it. This is a FUN game!

Without delving into the specifics of the game's plot or technical controls, I can safely say that this is one of the most well thought-out and executed "non-D&D" RPGs I've ever played. Here are some bulletpoints...
1) This game has some of the best voice acting I've ever heard in a video game, hands down. The voices match the characters' physical manifestations without exception. Inflection and emotion are spot-on. All I have to say is Smiling Jack. You'll know what I mean when you play.
2) While the plotline is decidedly quite linear, this game contains some of the coolest sub-quests I've encountered in an RPG. This adds lots of extra fun.
3) The music and graphics blend together seamlessly to create atmospheres ranging from downright melancholy and spooky to high-strung and intense.
4) Replayability is nice and high thanks to the many different Vampire Clans you have at your disposal, each with their own set of unique powers and subquests. Don't miss out on clans Tremere and Malkavian!
5) BIG NOTE HERE! While the packaged release of this game is indeed riddled with minor bugs, all of that can be simply and easily fixed by implementing Tessmage's TRUE patch (no longer available on his site, but still findable for those who are resourceful - you can Google it). Not only will the gameplay be enhanced, but much of the present but unimplemented content will be "awakened" to enhance gameplay without ruining balance.
Surprisenly entertaining

I found this game to be quite entertaining. I love all the different vampires you can be each with their own unique abilities. It lasted quite a long time and no matter how many times you play it your sure to come out with a totaly different game play. i could play this over and over and never get bored and theres not many games that you can do that with. Not to mention it is really cheap for a roleplaying game, and unlike others, you don't have to be on the internet to play it. So if you have dial up...like i do...lol... then this is a perfect rp game for you . well all this talk about it makes me really want to play it...so thats just what ima bout to do...ttyl....hope it was helpful. oh...buy the game, you won't be disapointed, its worth every penny and more:DD
Simply the best.

This completely made up for the first game, which sucked. It has a great story line, multiple endings, you can create any type of vampire you want, and has high replay value, A+ for me, considering this is an old game...
Would be excellent if only they had tested for bugs

I have the same thing to say about this game as I do for all games by Troika: The creators demonstrate vision, style, originality, an in-depth understanding of what makes a game fun and satisfying, and so many bugs that it's nearly unplayable. In terms of bugs, this game is even worse than Arcanum, one of Troika's earlier efforts in the oh-so-fun yet oh-so-buggy department. By the time I had finished the game, I may have encountered upwards of fifty bugs.
Bugs aside, as soon as you start the game, it is clear that the folks at Troika understand exactly what the Vampire the Masquerade world was about. The style and mood is captured perfectly and I could not imagine a better adaptation of the roleplay into a video game. It is also the perfect execution of an action RPG.
The replay value is high, as your character can be one of many different types of vampires, each of which have different strengths and weaknesses, and different "disciplines" (special skills) to develop. Many obstacles can be overcome in a variety of different ways, depending on if you have concentrated on developing skills with brawl, guns, knives, persuasion, intimidation, hacking, lock-picking, stealth, etc. It's a very flexible game.
The graphics are nothing to write home about, in case you're the type to worry about that sort of thing. The music is a very entertaining mix which enhances the mood perfectly. There are also many fantastic comedic moments sprinkled throughout. The women of the game are all in ridiculously skimpy outfits, which is irritating enough, but I'm sure any gamer is used to that by now.
My overall verdict is that I must recommend it. Just be prepared for the onslaught of bugs.
