Just a phenomenal RPG! Give us more, Activision!

One of the most immersive RPG experiences to be had on the computer. The environments are incredibly gorgeous, and there is such a huge amount of quest content and places to explore.

There are loads of easter eggs and bits of humor hidden here and there in the game. Most of the quests and character dialog are very well written and as a whole it comes together brilliantly. The voice acting is unmatched. They spared no expense on talent.

My only complaint is that there aren't more pc games in the Vampire The Masquerade series, or other World of Darkness titles. Get busy and crank out some more, Activision! :)

As a followup I'd love to see a game in this series set in Victorian London done with the HalfLife 2 engine. It would be nice if they could include more playable clans next time, and allow you to play as Sabbat. It would open up all kinds of possibilities for story development, after all it was the time of Dracula, Sherlock Holmes, Jack the Ripper, John Merrick and Sweeney Todd.

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines was definitely a fun game. You got to shoot gangsters, sneak up on cops, suck blood from hookers, seduce night club people, punch guys peeing in public (yes, they have a guy in a dark corner urinating...), and make fun of homeless people. This game is definitely the sort of edgy vampire game America's been waiting for. From music to interaction to environments, Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines definitely outshines all competitors.

There's lots of variety. You can pick from seven different clans, each with different positives and negatives. It was loads of fun picking out which clan I wanted to be apart of. You can choose to be a: rebel Brujah, loner Gangrel, demented Malkavian, horrifying Nosferatu, aristic Toreador, untrustworthy Tremere, or royal Ventrue. You can be either male or female. If you can't pick out which clan you want to be apart of, the makers of Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines have even included a little quiz to help you out. I wasn't satisfied with my answer though, so I decided to choose my own character.

This game was very... sexual. Even as a female, you can pick up other females in the night clubs or even on the street. The game doesn't waste any time getting into sex either. In fact, the opening video features you and a vampire having sex. Fun, yes? Though I personally found their mix of sex and humor to be quite entertaining, some might be offended by it.

The structure of the game was rather weird. I didn't like the conrol set-up, really. I kept accidentally punching people because I would click out of frustration, and I'd loose all sorts of points because of that. Also, it took an hour to install. Yes, it took me an HOUR. Of course, it took me awhile in between switching disks, baking a cake, and forgetting to click "Ok." It was a very long download. It did give you a slideshow of concept art though, so that was nice.

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines is a very picky game when it comes to picking which computer it wants to work on. For example, I finished installing it and picking my character (which took two hours... literally) the game froze five minutes into the game. I got VERY mad. I uninstalled and reinstalled (took thirty minutes this time), and five minutes into the game, it froze. It was because my out-of-date video card. It works fine on my brother's computer, but it does have moments where it... "bleeps" as I like to call it. Like when it getts caught on a loading screen or a reaction. It doesn't last long though.

What made the game really worth wild? It came with a soundtrack. Of course, I got it from Best Buy, and I'm not aware if all of the copies of the game come with a soundtrack, but it was definitely worth it. It features the artists: Ministry, Daniel Ash, Tiamat, Lacuna Coil, Chiasm, Die My Darling, Aerial2012, Genitortures, and Darling Violetta. The soundtrack was a very good addition.

Overall, Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines was a very fun and thrilling game. The only thing that made it four stars instead of five was how much trouble I went through to play it.

First, the bad:

I must admit, after playing Masquerade: Redemption I thought this would be similar, as in, more, errr, family friendly? I mean, besides the graphic sloppiness and bugs the people who made this seem to have tried to put every seedy aspect of life into the game...there are references to incest, snuff films, etc...would have gotten ~ten~ stars if it hadn't been so gross at points. I was not offended, really; I knew that such things existed. It was just slightly creepy at points, and gross sometimes, too. The rampant sexuality will make parents afraid, as some degree of sexual undertone is in almost every quest. If you are female, expect for almost every character, male and female, to be hitting on you, or you them, depending on how you play the game...The language wasn't a problem, actually quite funny, however, I would recommend parents to check this one out before giving it to their kinds.

The guide Brady Games published sucks; sometimes, when the number of points you could earn from a quest was | 2 | 2 | 2 |, they said for total/max points earned for quest: | 3 |. Hell, it's amazing how you can go through how many years of school and college and still be unable to add. Their descriptions of places and how to get through is short and sometimes incorrect; sometimes they forget to tell you when you are in an area with an Occult item and also they don't give you all of the passwords for the computers. However, this is good for a rough sketch of the game.

The good:

It was a good, shocking storyline. The end will definitely surprise you. Different clans give you different interactions. I liked how you could ally yourself with a number of different sects, which was cool. It would have been better if you could have chosen also to become Sabbat, but seeing as they barely finished it this way, extra content probably would have filled the game unbearably with bugs. Personally, I didn't note too many glitches when playing, except for sometimes it would crash, and sometimes I would get up and have time to get a snack while an area loaded. Still, the graphics were great! I loved the sound track, too, and its nice that you get a CD with the songs on it separately. It was nice how they rewarded less-violent solutions to quests rather than just enticing violence. You only get three pre-set disciplines but this makes the game challenging and fun. It was a hilarious, fun game...definitely for mature audiences.

Great game(and Subtitle) bugged and doesn't get 5

I have never been interested in gothic horror games on the RPG genre until I purchased this(rather on an off chance). I had heard(almost sickeningly too much) praise about Masqerade Redemption but never really got around to buying the title. I love this game and am buying redemption on order as of this writing. Masq Bloodlines lets you pick your clan whereas redemption didn't but it is getting a chance too. I actually like the brujah better than any other clan anyway because he is not only a good fighter but his talants can be put else where at level ups. The bonus to brawl is nice and lets me spend a few on other "talents" like dodge and subterfudge(anyone needs it). Gangrel is also a good choice and is more well rounded than bruja and can "Hulk out" as it were. Allowing a +10 to Strength and others. Don't know if it stacks with animal form though. The option to be evil pays little consequence and can get you on the road to good later(just say, your a misguided fool who learns his lesson thats' all). Suck blood, violate the masq because you get it all back later if you just make the effort. Beasting out is a good thing in the combat zone(and satisfies my hunger to beat sum moron to mush). Mental crazy guy(not the Malkavian) who limbs the bounty guy is a satisfactory beat when you beast out as a Gangrel low on blood and humanity. Priceless! You pick from seven clans(I like them all, not a dud in the bunch like most RPGs). Nosferatu is fun but is hard to scocialise and even if you use the sewer system you get caught quite a lot when you emerge. Cops don't take kindly to you when you view the body on the Pier docks in Santa Moni, only vampires accept you on the beach, no where else are you safe from prying eyes(and cell phone cameras). Dr. David Banner had it easy compared to the acursed cell phone.
The RP element is better than any mideval or Space RPG I can think of a few. People praised Redemption and I used to find that nausiating, now I know why they praised it. I do too! No weak, useless stats. Charisma and even appearence have an important place here. the ability to soak bullets gives incentive to raise Stamina, it works wonders later on beleve me! rifflemen are the acursed bane of Vampires. The tutorial dude wasn't kidd'n about that! You have many choices and they take some noggin nashing. Don't buy the hint book, Prima is notorious for being condemning to certain systems of point spending and classes which I find that later these classes work. Icewind Dale's(1+2) stratedgy guide sucked and makes you afraid to play certain characters. I say go right ahead and it is more effective than you think! Gangrels are started out with skills; to up melee I assume as in "warrior skills", but brawl needs attention too for blood feasting. If you put something into a skill or feat not ascociated with your class, this game will forgive you and it is very benefitial. Everyone needs sneak, security and subterfudge to effectively get info and girls to drain. Also computer hacking for info and emails of people that need to be exploited.
The graphics are excellent as far a quality more than the technology(though it is advanced 3d) Girls are well drawn and the pretty ones have cute faces and bodies. The only thing is AI is sometimes lame. The guy in the diner(The chef) is deadeyed and staires at the cooking pot while you fire away at the rifflemen. "Gawd I'm bored, I wish I could quit this job and watch the mold grow on my ceiling." some of the humans seem more dead than the vampires(the generic non-vocal ones that is). I still think it's fun and realistic and the way-faced humans just add to the charm and humor. The dialoge is just that snappy and humorous and with personality, not that generic crap where they try to be funny like on TV. Great game. Better than Baldur's Gate, Star Wars Republic Knights, IWD and all the rest. If not for the bugs I would rate it five. If you could faction like Planescape Torment, I would rate it six. I am over 13, that's the news, and I am outta here!

Only worth about $15

I'm guilty:
I misjudged this game to soon.
( I left the original comments below the double-dashed lines)
In a way, it's kinda not my fault that I misjudged it, but in a way it is. You see if they had spent more time to fine tune the game, there would be a lot less criticisms.

First of all, this is my first game like this game...
1) this game is NOT a FPS
( well maybe a FPS if FPS= First Person Sucker, aka Blood Sucker)
2) this game is NOT a MMOG
3) this game IS of a genre' game style unlike almost all the games being sold, and this is what threw me off--hence my previous criticisms.

Let me explain:
This game is based not on how many items you collect( although you do collect items to improve your char) but more importantly on how you CHOOSE to live your characters life.

This game does this more than you can believe; it realy amazes me how much time and thought was put into this game--you literally could play this game over from the beginning several times and have different scenarios play out to give enough variety to make it entertaining. The main char goals( quest, job assingments, etc) are the pretty much same for everyone, but you do NOT have to complete all of them...and you can do them in pretty much any order you want--although some are definately harder so you need more char points from the lower ones to succeed at the harder quests.

It truly amazes me just how much thought was put into this game which is somewhat of a detriment to the creators...I'll explain:
If they had another year to publish this game to work out the bugs an polish up the graphic/physics glitches; this game would have been a work of art. All the hard work that the programmers have done is mostly hidden--cause it the mental part of the game--the part you cannot visually see!

This game style has gotten me hooked, I love it :)

On another note aside from the game play and into the ethics of the game: warning to Moms an Dads--er, this game is not for anyone under the age of 18, probably not under the age of 25 :)
There ARE a lot of scenes that are REALLY gross and sick minded( aka Silence of the Lambs goes graphics), a lot of scenes that are very sexual in nature--but then this is the theme of the game, e.g., Vampires & Blood :)

I'd actually have some hope to see more games like this if I could believe that it might be possible to find another software company out there with the ability to create it--this is why I tip my hat to these game creators, as you have truly put in a hurculean effort to create a game that is unlike almost every game out there--just kick the publishers for not giving you more times to get the bugs worked out.

Technical note:
I crashed only occasionally, but that was it cause my puter is pretty beefy--both video card, CPU, an memory.

I'd have paid $60 bucks for this game had I known about this game style--thank you for NOT being like all the other FPS, MMOG makers :)

----------------------------------------
I've played HL2, DOOM3, Linage2, an a bunch of othr games...an this game was a disapointment.

1) They use the word "clans", aka online guilds( clans) but this game does not offer online play that I could figure out?
It's just a run a suck blood game before yur blood meter runs low; or, if your blod meter runs all the way down you attack the nearest person, get chased by the cops an then die, rinse an repeat.

2) The game is buggy, or poorly designed( poor software engineering) It looks as if it's actually a half finished product that got thrown out before Xmas cause the corporate bigwigs thot they would be loosing sales.

For example, in the opening trailer--which you HAVE to sit thru EVERY time you create a new char...painfully long: your char walks next to some boxes as his/her right side disappears into an out of the boxes...that's just sloppy programming.

Another example, in part of the training sequence towards the end where you're told to wack your 2nd vampire; you're in this small concrete room with no way to get out--UNLESS you started your char with a high enough points to hack stuff...geez come on PPL, you did test this game didn't you?

Almost all the char's in the game stay in the same spot through the whole game...there are a few that wonder around; an the hookers have a limited vocabulary( real life?) an you have to pay $40 bucks to get a chance to suck their blood.

You start out in a comparitively small mapped area--compared to a lot of othr games out there...an the sewer tunnels aren't much bigger than the tunnels you go through in AA:O Mout training :D

This game has GREAT potentitial--but the money hungry publishers let an under-developed game out before Xmas--seems like I've heard that before.

Save your money an wait until it sells for $15 if that much.

The only really good things I can say is that this game is a very accurate recreation Vampire RPG and the graphics are pretty good.

Each type of Vampire (Ventrue, Malkavian, etc) is accurately depicted. Your choice affects your dialogue options and how other vampires perceive you. For example, if you choose a Malkavian you get odd, almost non-sequitor, statements that the NPC you're talking to has to figure out.

The bad points in the game are numerous and should have been obvious with even cursory testing.

Off hand I can remember words mispelled (hte instead of the; uor instead of our); incorrect usage of words like

I bought this because of the hype I heard from other gamers. They were wrong. A simple storyline and a good soundtrack don't make a 5 star game. It's a 3 at tops.

Good: Soundtrack (music), ok storyline, somewhat non-linear story line. Character development.

Bad: Loooong load times everytime you leave a building, or go into sewers or even start the game at the load screen, it takes forever.
Who the hell are the guys around every corner attacking me that don't get arrested by the police? They can attack me all day long but as soon as I fight back, the police open fire on me alone?
The bugs are way too many and are a pain in the [...].

Give it a try if you want or wait till it hits the bargain bin.

Slightly past mediocre.

I have no idea why this game runs so poorly with such bad graphics. And games like Half-Life 2 run so smoothly. Might have something to do with crappy programming?

The gameplay gets kind of tedious after a little while.
It reminds me of a cross between, Elder Scrolls, and Fable, with a vampire twist, only a much crappier version of both.

Do yourself a favor and don't buy it. It's really not worth the money at all.
It's more like a novelty. And novelties grow thin after about an hour.

this is a frendly rateing i haven't goten a chance to play
