This game as one of the other interviewers said, "Definately not a shooter." This game is for people who like to use their heads and think. I liked the first Hitman, but felt it was a little lacking. This version of Hitman looks like they cleaned up where they missed, the graphics look a whole hell of a lot better too. Stealth is what this game is about, and just like in real life, if you want to be a hitman you have to be unseen, quiet, and smart. Going in with guns blazing, you may drop some people but you'll also get dropped too.
So buy this game only if you like mental challenges. If you're a gun blazer you end up hating this game within about 5 minutes.

The new version looks to be a greatly improved version of the last. As mentioned in other reviews there are better graphics and the game play has been significantly smoothed out. But I have read, in just about every review, that this game is to be played not as a Rambo shooter, but that you have to sneak around to take people out. But that is not entierly true. The beauty of this game is that you CAN play it as a shooter, and win, you can go in there and massacre every body, or you can play is safe and sneak in the back disquised as the delivery boy. You can take out your target with a sniper rifle from a safe distance, or you can get in close and strangle him to death with piano wire(so no one can hear him scream.) This game has a lot of potential, and just about every situation can be played in different ways. There isn't a right way, there is your way.

I purchased this game from EB and was immediately told by the sales person I would be dissipointed since he had been stuck on a particular part of the game for 4 days. I started to feel a bit queasy and after getting home I spent the next 3 hours feeling like a lost puppy. I went to sleep thinking I had wasted "$". But after giving it a rest a little bit and figuring out the controls more I have done a complete 180. The story is good, cutscenes Great and gameplay FANTASTIC!!! It just takes a little getting used too. But this game is a definate buy! You can switch between third person and first person view, many different weapons, and much more. But beware, this game is more about stealth than finishing a mission by killing everything in sight. The current mission I am on I cant be seen by anyone or else the mission is failed. But this game is worth at least a rent and if you like what you see then buy it, this game is the best x-box release in a while.

Its a good one

When I first played the game I was really pumped up because I had the idea it was one of the best games ever. After playing it for the first time with my friends I thought it was an excellent game. But when I played it later it justed seemed to hard to get it right. But time has brought the true colors of the game to show. Everything is possible, I have already managed to get through 2 levels using just ONE bullet. The ways you can hide are also amazing, changing clothes, carrying guns inside grosey bags. The graphics are great, everything youd expect out of your xbox. The guns are also great, there are tons of um, the bad thing is you have to end a mission with it to get it. One other bad thing is at the end of the mission you are told how you did and given a rank like hitman, silent assasin, executioner, etc. but you dont know what order they have so you dont know how well you are doing. The game takes a lot of patience, theres a hole lot of walking and little runing. Some people say the controls are hard but if you have halo or just are a good gamer their acctualy kinda easy.

Not a shooter

For anyone who has played the first Hitman they will know this game isn't a standard shooter. If you go in guns blazing it's over, the computer will always win. You have to use stealth and ingenuity. For example to sneak into a building you may have to eleminate an outside guard and steal his clothes to get in the door. The idea behind this game is to eliminate your target without having to eliminate everyone else.

The funnest game since grand theft auto 3

Hitman 2 will require pacience puzzle solving and some really hard challenges to beat this game. you will have to beat every thing from mafia to high end rich people sitting in hottubs this game is all about stealth and figuring out the way each apponent in levels thinks and reacts to what you do. each level is almost like a tottally new game because the people you must assasinate all do different things appon what you do in the game. for instance in the mafia level you must kill the dean, while trying to do that if the dean gets too allarmed he will get guys with shotguns to gard him or even kill the hostage you must rescue. to get into the dean you must kill a amilman walk throu gates and kill a grocery man then do some other stealthy things from thair. you can go in guns blazing but i dought youll get farther than killing the dean. escaping you will die. i hope you enjoy this wonderfull game and please rate my review good please bye

could be one of the best

I just rented this game and have a couple of hours under my belt. I must say, for the small amount of fanfare this game has gotten in the gaming press (man, am I a nerd), I'm thoroughly impressed. By giving you a little more control over how to approach a mission, it really does seem more real than most other games. Granted, I've only played a little bit, but at this point, I would put this game on par with halo, max payne, and morrowind for quality. Unless the later stages really disappoint in comparison to what I've played so far, I think I can safely advise any FPS fan with an xbox to simply buy this without so much as a rental.

I am referring to the PC version in this review, where a mouse and keyboard are used for controlling the game.

I was floored by not only the great graphics, soundtrack and voice-acting in this game, but the execution by the developers in taking a great concept and making it incredibly immersive and enjoyable.

Two major improvements from the 1st edition of Hitman are the control scheme, and adding a limited number of in-game saves (7 per mission on normal difficulty). The controls I found to be very intuitive, easy to pick-up and it makes the game very accessible.

In addition to those things the load times are incredibly fast, and the cut scenes are excellent although the story itself could've been fleshed out some.

The highlight of the game comes in the number of ways you can approach most of the missions, disguising yourself, finding new ways to complete missions, and achieving the "Silent Assassin" rating, where you are given bonus weapons early in the game for earning it. This rating is earned by not firing more than one shot from your gun, not having "close encounters," and not killing anyone other than your intended target along the way, with some minor variances. This is done by making smart use of Chloroform and putting enemies and bystanders to sleep and dressing up in their clothes instead of killing them, if you choose. Many times you will have to drag their half naked bodies into seclusion so that others are not alarmed, without being spotted. Fortunately for 47 everyone wears his size!

The map is well done and let's you see where everyone in the vicinity is, where and how they patrol, which way they are facing, and where various waypoints are for you to pick up equipment, meet contacts etc..,

The suspense as you walk past suspicious guards, time hits, and sneak up on unsuspecting subjects is very satisfying and entertaining, I have not experienced that kind of suspense and sense of accomplishment in any other video game to date.

There are some minor problems not really worth mentioning as the game is very polished, and they do not affect the game much, if at all.

There are so many memorable moments in this game and it is one I will cherish and play over and over again for a long time, until I achieve the Silent Assassin rating on every level (only a few that I have not).

I highly recommend Hitman 2 to anyone who enjoys a good action game or movie. Definitely one of the best video games to come down the pike in years.

Rewarding Strategy/Stealth FPS Gaming

Hitman 2 is a first person shooter which rewards control and stealth over full-out blasting. Gorgeous graphics and freeform gameplay make this great for teenagers and adults.

To start out, you're a retired hitman, enjoying the beauty, peace, and serenity of Sicily, Italy. You talk with your friend, the priest, about your hope for being one with God. Unfortunately for you, this is when the bad guys show up and kidnap the priest.

You don't have the $500,000 ransom they demand, so you call up your agency and arrange to do some missions for them in return for help rescuing the priest. And you're off! You're wandering through very well done maps, with a diverse collection of tools at your disposal. Do you pick the locks to go in the back way? Shoot the guy from the trees, sneak up and wire him, maybe chloroform him in a corner?

The game is very open-pathed. You choose which way to approach a mission, what might work best. Your opponents are smart and react to finding bodies or to unusual behavior. This isn't a go-here-then-go-there game, it's a game where you're placed in the world and have to decide which approach works best for you. There's a stealth meter, you can hear your footsteps, you can see your shadow.

Having just finished playing Splinter Cell, though, the game suffers a bit in comparison. The movements are more jerky, the lighting not nearly as nicely done. You can peer through keyholes, but not around a partially opened door, or shoot around the door. You can't move along walls and peer around the corner. So some stealth techniques we found quite natural and helpful from Spliter Cell were impossible here.

Also, the open-endedness of the missions can lead to frustration. Even taking one step two far or opening the wrong door can lead to mission failures, so you can spend hours on a single mission trying to figure out which technique will work. In essence you learn what each AI character does and then work around it - which isn't very realistic.

Still, the game is quite fun to play, the graphics are very nice, and the missions are interested. Recommended for any fan of the stealth-fps genre.

it went platinum for a REASON

oh my god where to begin!

alright, let me say this, this game is like metal gear solid but without the plotline that makes you question the meaning of purpose, hence it's FUN.

use tactics like car bombs, poison, sniper rifles and piano wire to kill your enemies, and that's only the stuff they tell you on the back of the box.

Plotline- alright this is a great plot, your priest (funny a preist and an assassin are good buddies) friend is captured and the hitman breaks out his signature baller pistols (this is a sequel mind you) again, you revive more missions from diana to pay the agencey for info on how to rescue your buddy, i have not completed the game yet because certain levels are too much fun to not do over and over and over again.

Gameplay- 5 outta 5 on this one dude, 1st or 3rd person fighting and dozens of weapons, including realizm, civilians will run up to cops shouting that you killed someone so your identity must be masked quickly, hell i've even had civilians run up to me pointing in the direction of a body of a guard i killed. you CAN go gung-ho but it takes the fun out of the game, it'd be like MGS with invisibility, plus it USUALLY gets you killed in a matter of seconds. More importantly is how entertaining it is to make hits, i can play the saint petersburg stakeout for hours at a time because making a kill from a concealed location with a sniperrifle and then walking away from it is so much fun, and if i feel like target practice then bust out an AK and let loose, also if you use the signature baller pistols you will get a special treat of taking down anything with 1 shot, which is realistic because baller pistols are like cannons.

Graphics- awsome, just awsome, blood pools and smoke pours from the tip of your barrel plus your signature red tie will blow in the wind and over your shoulder depending on if your running or walking or in the level, very nice, plus this game has some ragdoll that tops brute force, now THAT'S impressive

Weaponry- very good, and you have a shed in sicily where you can grab any weapon you've found in levels (and escaped with) and practice firing on ducks, scarecrows pigs ect, unfortunatley you will usually only use a sniper rifle, scilenced pistol and a fiberwire plus the occasional AK47 if [it] hits the fan (which it will). but you CAN weild things like aks, ballers, shotguns, m16s, sniper rifles, kitchen knives crossbows and eve Katannas (more of a disguise weapon then an arm).

Misc- this game was done VERY well, very intelligent AI, also hard to perdict, only a seasoned vet can effectivley sneak up behind a guard that's urinating, use piano wire and then store the body in a correct place, after 5 months i still screw up, plus RAGDOLL!!!!! this game has some of the best i've ever seen, for those that are saying "wtf is ragdoll?" it's when body's go limp when dead, rather then in MGS2 where all the guards will have identical deaths you can shoot an enemy in the head with a 9mm pistol and they might fall down or spin and die, but with a shotgun the will more likley hit the wall behind them (and leave a nice painting), plus draggin the corpse shows the beauty of ragdoll unlike certain stealthy's (mgs2).

pros..........all of the above (and the ability to save right before a kill, and do it over and over)

cons

hard to do, will aggravate the average gamer
most people will rush through levels with aks and get through the whole thing saying "that was crap" because they've cheated and taken away the fun

overall

great game because in this killing is an art, and using an AK is like photocopying.
