There's a lot to like about this game, and believe me I tried. A stealth-based FPS on a gorgeous tropical island, what's not to like? Well there are two things, actually: checkpoints and load times. Either one by itself would probably be palatable, but the two together just don't work for me. Having to redo large sections of the game, starting from the last checkpoint, is irritating, but having to wait for what seems like several minutes to gain the privilege of doing so is just beyond belief. Initially the gameplay just rocked so hard that I put up with it, but after a few hours of play I just said to heck with it and traded the game in. There are better ways to spend your XBox time than repeating large spans of gameplay and watching a load-screen video. At least Splinter Cell Chaos Theory allows you to save at any point.

I got down to the very last ojective of the last level and found no boss to fight in the compound! So I ended up having to replay the last level and the second time I got to the same point, there he was! Overall a very good game and much harder overall than Doom 3. Surprisingly, the hardest part of the game were not any of the boss fights but entering the fortress in the last level.
a decent game with too many flaws

lets tackle us some flaws, cuz this game has a bunch:
1. If you do not have the time & date properly set on your xbox OR if you take this game out of/eject the disc from your xbox for any reason: you WILL be forced to watch a five minute commercial for the game you are minutes away from playing. from what i've been told, this has to do with temporary sound files far cry installs on your xbox. when the game is ejected, the files are deleted.
2. the AI is terrible. the enemies are either so mindnumbingly stupid you can walk up behind them and shoot them in the face at point blank range or they're so clairvoient you'll be spotted from so far away that even with the scope on your sniper rifle, you couldn't fire an acurate shot. This also makes stealth moves harder, as your spotted in everything except the thickest of brush. unfortunately, sight in this brush is pretty restricted. BE WARNED: one mission towards the end of the game will have you pulling your hair out. it is your job to escort a person to a chopper, killing any bad guy that gets in the way. unfortunately, the guy will constantly run out in front of you and otherwise get in the way. this will force you to play this mission dozens of times before dumb luck finally leaves you victorious.
3. then there's the weapon damage. somehow, the enemy can shoot you through trees and behind rocks... with amazing accuracy. ememies can withstand dozens of shots to the body while still charging at you with full speed.
4. the vehicle control just plain sucks... especially when driving smaller vehicles. firing while on the vehicles is equally as crummy. because you are driving in first person, you'll often times find yourself backing off cliffs, hitting things you can't see causing you vehicle to flip over.
5. this game also uses auto-save points. unfortunately, these can be few and far between forcing you to replay lengthy sections of game.
there is fun to be had, but not without enduring tons of flaws. and to be forwarned: THE ENDING PRETTY MUCH SUCKS. putting 20 hours in to a game for a (literally) 35 second payoff? come on...
Same old, same old + a few "F" bombs

I'm probably going to receive a major internet ridiculing because of what I'm about to say, but I don't care. For some reason video gamers take it pretty personally when you criticize their favorite games. Oh well.
I place this game among the ever growing heap of generic FPS games. Every once in a while you get a really good one that definitely stands above the rest, but this isn't one of them. Oh, it has its little twists like "feral powers" and "treebranch booby traps". But all in all it's just simply a variation on a theme.
I have two really big qualms with this game, however. The first was mentioned in several other reviews: longest load times ever between levels and a ridiculously long, unskippable trailer every time you load up a game from the main menu. I can understand the long load times, but the several minute trailer every time you start a new game? The second item I have a problem with will definitely be controversial among gamers. It is the proliferous use of the "F" bomb and other profanity throughout the game. There, I said it. Yes, boys, I know it's rated "M". Frankly, I've never heard that word used in a rated "M" game before, though. And I've played a ton of rated "M" games.
So, to sum it all up, the game is on par with every other FPS you've ever played in your life with really crappy load times, a start-up trailer that will allow you to go cook dinner while you're waiting, and a lot of grisly language to make you feel tough. I would recommend this game to hard core gamers who just plain love to play FPS games, but not to more selective players waiting for a more quality, addicting game.

The game is great, The AI is impressive and smarter then most games. But there is an intro that is like 3 minutes long that you cannot skip. I pressed every button on my controller, and you just can skip it. If I would have known, I would not have bought the game,

I have finished this game and I disagree with the review below... Far Cry is better than Halo 2. Far Cry has better graphics and a much better storyline! Halo 2 was slightly boring; this game is awesome.

Xbox is known for FPS games and this one adds to its collection. It has a total new look and design for FPS games for the future. I'll tell you the one thing that i really loved was the environments. They are freakin awsome. Its just amazing how they could make a jungle look that good in a game and it has all aspects of a jungle. The sunsets make the environment a nice orangey yellow color and it shines through the leaves on the trees. You can definitely tell it took time to make the environments.
The story-line is decent. You are Jack Carver and you are lying low in the south pacific on your boat. You let a woman named Valerie come with you. For some reason she wants to use your boat mobile so you let her for a few hundred dollars. You go to sleep and wake up to a noisy helicopter and you can see that Valerie has not returned. They start firing at your boat so you jump into the water and swim off to shore. The rest is up to you to find out what the hell is going on and to survive on the island. The problem I had with the story line is that it didnt really update much through out the game. You have to do so mucha before oyu get to see what is going on in a cutscene. They should have definitely put more cutscenes in.
The gameplay is great but can get repetitive. The game has 17 weapons for you to use which is a good thing, but you find yourself running out of ammo constantly. I guess this is alright for this game because you are basically living off of whatever you can get. The whole game is basically trying to stay hidden from the enemies and killing them with whatever you got between weapons, traps, hands and even rocks. Though its notlike splinter cell where if you are seen then you fail the mission. Once you are seen you have a chance to still survive. When you get seen the game kind of falls deep below. No matter what, once you are definitely seen they will not stop going after you. Even if oyu run somewhere and stay hidden they will still find oyu and see oyu in the hidden spot. The whole AI is pretty bad. And once you run out of weapons while you are seen you are basically screwed and the game gets annoying trying to beat the crap out of them for there gun while you are getting shot. You can get in vehicles but the driving is horrible and incredibly difficult. I mean once you get in a vehicle it doesnt switch to third person view to make things easier, its still in first person view and the controls for it are hard to master. You have to hold the thumbstick up to go and you have to use the same one to turn so you slow down around every turn. ITs a good thing they didnt put too much of the vehicle action in the game. Later on in the game you evolve into a beast or something and you have amazing powers. This makes the game incredibly easy and a little wierd but still fun. What i mean by wierd is that if you punch someone after you evolved they fly like ten feet and the rag-doll physics is not good at all. The game does get repetitive around mid-way through the game. You basically get tired of shooting the same enemies over and over again and all you do is shoot, kill and then move to the next area of enemies. The game can take long to beat depending on how oyu play it. If you decide to just be silent the whole game then it will ake a long time to beat the game. If you decide that you are sick of walking so slow oyu can just run through the game shooting every enemy because it is farely easy and you will beat the game in a much shorter time. The map editor is probly one of the greatest things in this game and with the online multiplayer, does not have the same feeling as halo though.
The graphics are amazing and I've never seen a game so beautiful in the jungle along with the sounds the game launches from a 3 star to a 4 star. The sounds let you hear wild animals in the jungle, i just wish oyu could see them, and the guns sound incredibly good.
I would definitely recommend this game to any gamer who likes FPS games. I would probably not rent this game because its long and you may get tired of the gameplay when you are about halfway through the game and you may not play it for a month. So if you decided you like it buy it, its just a waste if oyu rent. This game is rated M for Mature: Blood and gore, intense violence, strong language.
Can`t wait toget an XBox,This is on my hitlist for it!

Far Cry:Insticts is one of those half fantasy, half realistic games like Metal Gear Solid,007 etc. as someone mentioned.I remember 007 Goldeneye on the old XBox-sorry Nintendo 64.That First Person Shooter that made an impact on all FPS games.I never liked Turok(aprt from "Dinosaur Hunter"),I liked HALO but never saw why it was hyped,as it only lives up to half of it.
FC:I is a port from the PC game simply known as "Far Cry" it was originally intended to come out on both PS2 and XBox-But believe it or not the PS2 wasn`t capable of handling FC:I`s very high graphics,A.I.,and so on.It need about the power of the XBox
Its actually ahead of its time. This game would be a PS3,XBox 360 or N-Rev CLASSIC if i were out on them-and its like 30 BUCKS on XBox.I am a PS2 and GCN gamer-and adding XBox to my consoles-i ain`t gettin a next gen console until atleast 1 or 2 years after PS3 is released,And i am jealous to this game i really am-i don`t give a dam about HALO-this game just ROCKS!
i played it at my cousins house and wanted it for PS2-serched it up and realised its only for XBox-i can`t have the PC version cos i have a krap graphics card.So i am getting an XBox for this game plus others,LOTS of others.
I loved Metal Gear Solid 3:Snake Eater for like 2 months w/ my friends-talked about MGS3 until we tgot bored, and thats even after we completed the game 14 times!
Far Cry:Insticts looks much better-though its an FPS you can set traps for enemy guards and stuff like that!
After listening to complaints that said-"Its got zombies-thats not realistic!"(hence me saying that it is a Half Fantasy,Half Realistic game) and that its to short!
Well thats only the end parts of the game where there are riduculas things like monsters and zombies-and it being short means you ENJOYED it!-i notice that in all the games i love Metal Gear Solid,SOCOM,Silent Hill and so on.
If there are any more FC game out-on XBox-i will get them when i get the console b-bye!

Far Cry Instincts for the Xbox is a really fun shooter that has an insane single player game and an even better multiplayer experience. Throughout the single player game, you go through many different levels that all play extremely well. Unlike the PC game, this console version is very straight forward, usually with a go from A to B kind of feel. This isn't a bad thing in any way, especially since there are usually small areas with a couple ways to complete the task at hand. Overall, the gameplay is amazing and is truly a great FPS shooter. One thing I loved while playing this game was the stealth aspects you can use. You can crouch and stay prone which will allow enemies to not suspect you coming. You can also set up traps which once you get the hang of it can be a lot of fun. You can also throw rocks and stones to trick your enemies to think you're somewhere else, which allows for a quick unsuspecting kill. The last huge thing that makes the single player experience so exciting the feral abilities. When using these, your character (Jack Carver) uses his animal instincts and turns into a whole new person. He has this one ability where, if close enough to your enemy, you can lunge toward and send your enemy flying through the air. This is SO much fun and my favorite of all the different abilities. There are also abilities including night vision and super speed which are very fun too.
The best thing, in my opinion, is the multiplayer aspect of this game. There are the basic deathmatch and team deathmatch, along with other modes including Steal the Sample (probably my favorite, plays much like Capture the Flag). There is a lot of diversity in the maps which makes for a great online experience. Another great thing about the multiplayer experience is the insanely good map editor. This is something that I've always thought would make a great addition to a game, and this game has it...YAY! There is also the fun Predator mode which is also addicting and fun. Overall, this game rocked and the multiplayer is equally as fun!
