3,2,1... Throw Controller!

Something bad happened during playtesting for this title. To be precise, it seems like nobody was playtesting it. A 3rd person camera flicks maddeningly from one bad location to another, constantly leaving your enemies off-camera, making dodging and aiming (not to mention *crate jumping puzzles!*) a complete and utter joke. No surprise the original Dino Crisis development team had nothing to do with this visually beautiful yet disastrous title (Yes, the spaceship is beautiful).
To say the gameplay is bad would be doing a disservice: it just doesn't WORK.
A big WT_? for Capcom on this unfinished bow-wow.
Great game with major flaws.

Despite the "worst camera in the world" and the frustrating save system I still enjoy this game and I have played it through a few times.
The problem with the game is that the camera system is so frustrating most gamers will quit long before they realize the game has tough battles, great graphics and atmosphere, and a cheesy sci-fi story. Ok, so its not all good news :)
The camera is not the only problem, I felt the save system was a bit difficult to deal with as well. The problem is that you save, then go well into enemy territory, make some progress and withing an inch of your death you finish off a tough mini boss battle only to find there is no where to save. So you have to go back a few rooms. But when you do, a single dino gets a very cheap shot in that was almost impossible to avoid and you die. So you either have to use up one of you expensive saves or do the whole thing over. After that happens a few times you want to throw the controller.
But I still played on. Why? I just really like the games atmosphere, music, and action when the game got it right. The puzzle solving is also quite good since it involve transforming the ship into different formations. Its like playing inside a huge transformer. Very cool.
If you have the patience and skill, the game can be quite rewarding. Just keep in mind it takes at least a few hours to get used to the wonky camera and combat system. I would not pay a lot for the game but as a bargain bin game you might just be surprised. But you may just be frustrated too.
EDIT: I totally agree with the other review here that stated that playing on easy is a good way to lighten the frustration with the game and its a good idea. I have been gaming for 30+ years as well and I always play on the default difficulty but with this game I would highly recommend easy for the first run through.
Capcom's first real flop. :(

I have played DC, DC2, and DC3. The first 2 games were great, but DC3 is the worst Capcom title ever. My main reason for this is the horrable camra angles, most of the time you are forced to shoot off screen. Sometimes right in the middle of a fight the CA will change several times head aches are common. To top that off the story line makes no sense at all. This is very disappointing as I am a die hard Capcom fan. I hope that they would remake DC3 for Xbox 360 or PS3 because if they don't this is a sad ending to the first two great games... all it did was leave most people confused and upset.
A sequel that's not actually a sequel???

I'm still only about half way through this game, but I already know where I stand with it. After the first two games; "Puzzles, low ammo, the occasional dino & more puzzles." and "No puzzles this time, just run & shoot!" I was hoping we'd get to see a continuation of the storyline from the last game. I mean half of the previous story left so many threads open; I figure a direct sequel's the only way to go. (so we'll get to find out exactly which century we've actually been running around in???) But no; the new game's got nothing to do with the previous two, and the storyline seems to be a carbon copy of that dodgy horror flik 'Event Horizon.' What Up Wi' Dat??!? True, the graphics are cool, the video sequences're interesting and the fancy weapons & jetpacks are as well, but the game control is ridiculous! Whenever the camera angle shifts, the controller direction changes too! I've lost count of the times I've fallen off ledges & wotnot because I leave one angle & enter another, which immediately reverses my control on me. The angles're also annoying when you're shooting stuff off-camera, how do you aim at stuff you can't see?

Ok bottom line, worst game ever. nice graphics but blended with boring gameplay, bad mix. Some of the puzzles are fun in their own stupid way.but other than that, this crisis can only be salveged as another whipty ding dong button masher(and thats putting it so mild its funny!)so take this from me steer clear of this abomination because the way this thing plays I wouid dare not to think this game was created and made in the prehistoric days!!!!!!!!
Nice Graphics Do Not Make A Good Game

While the graphics in this game are quite good, with huge detailed atmospheres, that doesn't quite salvage the mess that it is. You fly all over the place in your snazzy jet pack, etc. shooting at dinosaurs that are rarely clearly seen. The storyline is comical and not in a good way. The game lacks any real substance and while the Dino Crisis games were Resident Evil wanna-be's to begin with, this one doesn't make the cut. This is a rental folks, don't waste your money buying this dog.

This game has the same problem as Oni for PS2- When I played it 'fair', the way it was designed to be played, it wasn't fun. When I 'cheated', I had a great time playing it. I started out playing Normal difficulty mode, as I always do when I first play a game. The first thing I noticed was that I was constantly being victimized by cheap shot attacks from enemies that came lunging at me from far off screen, and their attacks do an absurdly high amount damage. I was getting killed much too often, and this presented a problem; continues in this game have to be bought using "tactical credits" that are better spent on health items, stat upgrades, ammo, etc. Once you're out of Continues, that's it. Game Over. But rather than just give up and throw in the towel, I started over on Easy difficulty instead of Normal. Mind you, I've been playing video games for over 30 years now. I -never- play games in easy mode. It's beneath me, I consider it virtually cheating. I never use codes of any kind either (or at least not until I've beaten the game fair and square.) Nonetheless, I must say that playing this game on easy turned out to be a lot of fun. The only difference I noticed was that I now had unlimited continues. Combat isn't as fun as it could be, but exploring the HUMOUNGOUS ship and solving the puzzles made up for it. This is very different from the first two Dino Crisis games, but all fans of the series should try it.
JUST RENT IT. NOT WORTH BUYING!

The ONLY reason this game gets 3 Stars is for the graphics and Cinema Scenes. The game had so much potential to be an Incredible game. But the CAMERA ANGLES SUCKED! You can't see what you are shooting 85% of the time. What fun is a game when you can't see what you are killing? Sure it has auto aim but I want to see the Blood and the Dinosaurs getting killed. Not worth buying, JUST RENT IT... Took only 2 days to clear. It seems as if the People at Capcom were in a hurry to just release this game, and didn't take into consideration how damn frustrating the camera angles are. If you get this game be prepared to throw your controller out of frustration...... A LOT!
This game is wonderful!

I've been hearing a lot of folks talk about how horrid the
camera angles are. DO NOT expect the same out of this game
as a 3rd person game!! Once I accepted this game for what it
was, I began to realize this game is refreshingly different and
had a TON of fun! The graphics are amazing and the cut scenes
are top quality and VERY entertaining. I did, however, take
issue to the direction they went with the surviver in the story-
line. In the end I was sad that the game was over. Hats off to
Capcom! I really hope the franchise stays alive and maintains
this level of excellence.
