Much better than you'd think it would be

This is actually a great game! TrackMania is all about building and driving whacky tracks. This game is not about realism. It is all about fun. The best part of this game is the puzzle mode, where a number of half-built tracks are presented to the player. The player then has to complete the track and finally race the track under a certain time limit. If the track is not drivable in that time, the puzzle has not been solved correctly.

This is great fun and adictive. It is a new idea and those are rare these days. If you take this game for what it is (and that's NOT a realistic driving game) then you will have a lot of fun with it.

My five year old loves it, it's really aimed at older kids

My five year old saw this on sale locally and had to have it. We installed it on "his" pc, (800 Mhz), and it was painfully slow to respond. We tried it on mine (3 Ghz), and it was beautiful. The box claims the min system req's are 450 Mhz, but the recommended system req's are 900 Mhz and a 32 MB 3D graphics card.

We're at the very early stages of the game. My son's reflexes are already far better than mine, but I found the game quite addictive as well. (I'm not a gamer, myself, just his mom.) Lots of levels to work through, and the graphics are great. My son really enjoyed discovering that it let him go off track and explore the mountain ranges!

I don't know what the target age for it is, though I'm sure it's older than my son. There's nothing in it that I mind my son getting exposed to. In fact, my son claims that nobody's even driving the car, so there's not even any blood when the car wrecks!

Great fun. There may even be an element of logic to it, in the puzzles, but that's stretching it. It's obviously built for fun.

Trackmania is a cool game!

Recently got Trackmania on an Amazon recommendation. What a find! Less than $30. It is a cool game - very different from the usual racing games. You build your own tracks and then you can race on it, race other people's tracks and I found you can actually trade tracks with others.
Other neat featurea include the ghost racer and the puzzle game where you solve the puzzle using track pieces and then you race it.

A refreshing game that keeps entertaining

After finding and downloading Trackmania demo, I bought the game instantly. I don't usually buy racing games because it's all the same-trying to outdo each other in realistic vehicle physics and handling dynamics. Trackmania is refreshing because it didn't spend too much time on trying to capture the most realistic drving, instead, it developed a new conept where the player cna build their own race track, share and race each other. And for those who enjoy puzzle games, there is the puzzle solving part ofhte game as well. You have to figure how to get from the start to finish line, going through all the check points, using a predetermined limit of track pieces - all this and build the most efficient course.
Normal racing games gets redundant after about an day or so for me, but Trackmania has kept my interest. I also found courses that others have build online, what a great game!!

I found a gem of a game in Trackmania. A friend recommended it a couple of weeks ago and I am absolutely hooked.
The game is super imaginative and addictive. The standard racing is fun with good contorls and action. But the part abotu the game that's great is the track building. You can share the tracks with others online. This makes the game better than any company has time to build. I've already met so many others with great trracks to share

Fun, Addictive Arcade Racing

This is a really fun arcade racing game for your PC. The track layouts are tough and creative, and the main feature of the game involves building your own tracks and then racing on them. The Puzzle mode (track building) is very challenging, so you won't get sick of this game after 3 days like some others. Good value for less than $30.

DANGER! This game can crash your entire system!

(Although this game is a ton of fun and highly addictive for people of all ages...)

IT INSTALLS A COPY PROTECTION SOFTWARE WHICH WREAKS HAVOC ON YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM!!! Google "TrackMania Starforce" if you don't believe me.

Now, not only can I not get the game to run, but I've got all these drivers which are *impossible to remove* and MAY HAVE TO FORMAT AND REBUILD MY WHOLE HARD DRIVE! If you think it's worth risking your whole computer setup for just a little bit of fun, go ahead an buy TrackMania ...otherwise,

I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU PASS ON THIS GAME AND LOOK AT OTHER RACING GAMES!!!

Creativity and Thrills!

Last year, my then 9-year-old son and I found a demo of this game somewhere on the internet and he was immediately hooked. We've been through Trackmania original (reviewed here), Trackmania Sunrise, Trackmania Sunrise Extreme, the amazing-but-free Trackmania Nations ESWC, and now Trackmania United.

The fun never stops. In fact, that is one downside of this series of games: they're completely addicting. It's the easiest thing in the world for him to get started in the afternoon and put it a fight when it comes time for bed and he has to quit.

He's a huge Lego fan and quite addicted to driving games: the Trackmania series brings the creativity of Legos together with the thrill of first-person racing simulators. The game consists of creating outrageous tracks, then saving and driving them. he enjoys making virtually-undrivable tracks, and seeing how poorly his old dad does while trying to complete them.

He also enjoys making stop-motion animation, to the game's cinematic replay editing capabilities appeal as well. There is a huge subculture of trackmania video creators out there: next time you're on YouTube, search for Trackmania and see how creative these folks get.

The only things I could imagine to improve the experience of the TM series would be collision detection and a damage model. As it is, cars drive right through each other as though the others weren't there, which is, of course, completely unrealistic, but probably adds considerably to the game's blazing performance.

Rough implementation, but has potential.

It looks like this game was made by some clever programmers with a great concept, but the final product is unpolished. For example, during the installation it asks if you want to install Direct X (which is needed to run the game), but if you answer 'yes', it says the installation is successful, but you still have to go install Direct X manually. I tried installing the game on 3 different computers, but it only worked on one. I could live with the installation hassles if the program was easier to use, but the navigation and usability is terrible. There is no online help (except for one file which describes the installation process), and no printed documentation. Switching between tracks and moving between menus was sooo slow; I spent as much time waiting as racing. I haven't tried the multiplayer feature yet. This game has great potential, but was a huge disappointment for me.

TrackMania 4 LIFE

Ive always been a fan-favorite of simulation racing games. I didnt think i would be able to play another racing game since gran turismo. this held true for a long time until i saw a few video files of trackmania. i decided to play the game and i suddenly became hooked. the best features about this game are the map editor that allows you to create your own race tracks and race against friends or other TrackMania lovers online. The races are insanely addictive because of the jumps and loops that are possible. The creative design of this game adds a new dimension of fun. this is a great arcade racing game, especially for the asking price. it has great replay value.
