I thought this was a great game, if you ask me its up at the top with Halo and Halo 2. First of all there is a flaw in the story, the first level takes place two years after all the other levels like a prologue. one of the people in your squad (im not gonna say his name or i will ruin it for you)one of the guys in your squad died in the last level, but yet hes still in the 1st level with you wich takes place after all of the other levels.
I thought the AI was alright but in some parts of the game you see your guys trying to shoot the enemy but all they're shooting is the wall in front of them. i noticed sometimes they were standing right by the enemy and werent even shooting at them, so some of the time i found i had to kill the enemy by myself. But most of the time your squad is pretty effective. I really got into the story and when people in your squad die you actually kinda feel sad and you feel like you want to inflict as much pain and casualties on the enemy as possible.
Some parts of the environment annoyed me, for example you cant jump over a log or a short wall, you always have to walk around. there are some plus's though, you can see dust come off of where your bullet hit and when you shoot water the water actually reacts like it would in real life. The game was visually stunning it really brings you into what war is all about. All the time you hear bullets wizzing by your head and then all of a sudden a mortar round blows up the guy next to you. This game is so realistic, sometimes i thought i was in the game shooting nazis.
I think this game is the best WWII game ive ever played, and yes i have all of the MOH's.i dont have Live so i wouldnt know much about online play.I would definitely recommend getting this game, its worth the money, you wont be dissapointed. I just wish there were some more checkpoints in the game. But overall a great game!!!
Bite sized but good fun.

Some reviews have knocked how "easy" this game is and it's brevity. Honestly, I play games for fun and entertainment, not to be overly challenged to the point of frustration. (Real life is frustrating enough, I want games that are fun to play!) If you are looking for a great WWII game that is done well but is done in such as way as to be managable to play, COD 2 is for you. I have the "collectors edition" which comes in a silver case and includes interviews from the real men who served in the Big Red 1 division, etc,....very cool. Highlights include: the sound quality, the sheer variety of missions and weapons used (anti-aircraft guns, panzerschreck, .50 cal, etc., playing with distinct squad-mates who have unique personalities, realistic and relevant intersquad "chatter". I have and enjoy Brothers in Arms but it involves a bit more strategy and planning to do well so I save it for when I have longer stretches of free time to play. If you want more of a run and gun type WWII game that you can pick up and play a mission through from start to finish in about 15 minutes, this is a good game for you. I am a fan of the Medal of Honor series but I think this beats it in the graphics, sound and realism departments easily. As for "replayability"...I anticipate running through the levels again on a higher difficulty level once I finish the game on "easy".
Greatest WWII game I have ever played

This game is awsome. The game has all of the qualities that a gamer can look foward to in a WWII game. There are a lot of weapons to choose from along with great graphics, and many maps. You can actually depend on your teamates in this game. O.K., I admit that they are not the best distance shooters, but they are very good at close combat. For example, there was a time when an American soldier meleed a German to the ground and the American just kept on shooting the German to make sure that he was dead. Your teamates don't die easy and there are some characters that just can't die because they are part of the storyline. Aside from the guns, the grenades are very effective when the Germans are hiding in small corners and you just can't see them. Just pull out the grenade and it will do the rest for you. Well, thats about it. I hope my review came in handy. Remember to buy this game if you don't have it already. You will get more out of the game than what you paid for. I guarantee it.
Ok... BUT

Not a lot to say here, BUT, I might as well voice my immediate reaction to the opening trailer of the game. As a Canadian, I was incredibly shocked, in disbelief, and incensed that we were given no mention - given our contribution to the war effort in WWII. That set me off on the wrong foot with this game. It was hard for me to enjoy it really. Plus, I found it a bit slow and tedious. If you're more into HALO and PC Counter-strike ... don't know if you'll like this so much.
OH blast, I just realized, this is Call of Duty 2. Hopefully they ammended such ommission in BRO.
So real its Scary!

For those who cant live call of Duty 2 on the Xbox360 thats you can play this great WW2 game which comes close
As the title says it does feel real great graphics great sound I have a huge surround sound system so when I play it feels like my house is being bombed by Nazis. In this game you cant run through shooting like Halo which is also a great game but in this game if you dont take cover you will die.
Most of the time your around the same group of commrads and you really do get to know them but in a few of the levels some of them die and theres no way you can prevent it it turns into a movie and they die and you never see them again and its a real shock since all your comrads have personalities and talk about there home and how much they want to go home so it really puts you through the Chaos of World War 2
Let me wander! Xbox

The game and it's predecessor are awesome WW2 games, but, you can't move around! I mean you can't just walk around looking at the scenery, you have to stay close to your guys. I for one love to wander around and look at things. You fail the game if you wander for "abandoning your squad".
If you exit the game, you must start the level all over again. Checkpoints are good only if you fail and want to restart the game before you exit.
Graphics are better than the first.
Truly Great Game

COD can do better than that. This is the funnest game i have ever played but the game is way to short. If they could add 9 or 10 more leverls to this game it would be really fun. I have heard about the 360 version and how its long and all that but guess what i dont have a 360. I have heard that it is a totally different story also. Anyways back to the regular game. it has great grafics. top knoch missions. I advise anyone to get this game and the rest of the COD games. it doesnt have limbs flying off or any of that stuff. You learn a lot about WW2 and what happened but still buy or rent the game at your local gaming store ASAP or you will be one sad camper. Once again BUY IT
What is up with the other reviews this is CRAP!!!!

Call of duty 2 was the best shooting game I have ever played. But Big red One is a piece of crap I hate this game the crosshair aims for you making it hard to find this game realistic. And the graphics suck, And on top of all that it has the worst gameplay ever. If you want to buy a good game with awsome gameplay buy Call of Duty 2 not big red one.
Rent it first

So I played this game the other night and finished it the next day. The campaign itself is pretty varied. You fight in a lot of different places throughout which helps to keep it fresh. In some levels you will be driving a tank around the desert, in another you will be flying around in a B-24 Liberator manning the guns and dropping bombs. You can even call in artillery strikes at some points in the game. There is also a pretty wide range of weapons to use. Unfortunately the game does not nail down the feel of actually shooting the guns. The infantry combat can be pretty weak at times; it just seems to lack that visceral intensity that other Call of Duty games have. The AI in the game is actually pretty bad and makes the shooting even worse. Teammates can't seem to hit anything at all and like to get in the way a lot. They are constantly trying to shoot through walls to hit enemies as well. Overall the teammates are pretty useless besides just being extra targets for the enemy to shoot at. The graphics in the game are good. The fire and smoke effects (which you see a lot of) look pretty good. The characters, weapons, and vehicles look nice and have a decent amount of detail. While the levels are completely linear, they are actually designed pretty well and look good.
Overall the game can be pretty fun at times. Although it's clearly inferior to the original pc game, it's the best Call of Duty game on a current generation console by far. Since the campaign was pretty short and the multiplayer wasn't anything special, I would suggest this as a rental.
