Rock N Roll Baby!

This is the best Xbox game I own to date and if you love RPG's then this is definately a must own. The graphics are FANTASTIC. You run in water and watch the realistic waves move and bounce. The lighting is great and the overall play is awesome.

The spell graphics are wonderful and bright and look really sweet on my 27" TV. I was a huge fan of the PC versions and this one hasn't disappointed yet.

The only issue I have is that this is supposed to be in Dolby Surround and the instructions indicate there is a "Stereo" feature under options; when in reality there isn't any stereo option. I have Dolby 5.1 and can't get any sound to come out of my back speakers.

Other than that, this game is a blast.

good but keeps you wanting more

just wanted to say that this is a good game ,story and action is good also. The problem i have with this title is that i found it way too short way too easy, and definetly too linear. So unless your a dongeon and dragons or a fantasy fan dont buy it because for 55 dollars you are not going to get your moneys worth.Too bad because i would like to see more games like this on game cube.

it freezes

FIRST I WILL START OF BY CORRECTING EVERYONE WHO SAID IF THEY BEAT THE GAME ON EXTREME THEY WOULD GET THE FOURTH CHARACTER.THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN GET DRIZZT IS IF YOU BEAT THE GAUNTLET....ON TO MY REAL POINT NOW,THIS GAME IS REALLY FUN,ADDICTIVE(WARNING),AND A GREAT GAME FOR MULTIPLAYER..MY FAVORITE CHARACTER IS THE ELVEN SOURCERER(DESCRIBED AS MAGE).SHE HAS A GREAT AMOUNT OF INTRESTING AND SUITABLE MAGIC ATTACKS,SHE CAN THROW A BALL OF FIRE,SHOOT AND ACID ARROW,FIRE OF LIGHTINING(WHICH CAN CHANGE TO CHAIN LIGHTINING IF UPGRADED MAXIMUM).SHOOT BOTH A COOL ICY MIST,AND A HOT FIREY MIST FROM HER HANDS(SNOW BLIND,AND BURNING HANDS),SHE CAN SHOOT A MAGIC MISSLE-THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES BECAUSE AS U UPGRADE IT THE MORE SHE SENDS.FOR EXAMPLE WITH EVERY LEVEL SHE UPGRADES THIS SHE FIRE AN EXTRA(FIRST BUBBLE ONE,SECOND 2,AND SO ON).AND THE MONSTER OF ALL METEOR SWARM.SHE CALLS ABOUT 8 METEORS TO STRIKE HER OPPONENT.THESE ARE JUST FEW SHE HAS MANY MORE.WE MOVE ON TO THE ARCHER.HE CHANNELS ELEMENTS INTO HIS ARROWS(FLAMING ARROWS,ELECTRIC ARROWS,ANDMANY MORE).HIS TARGETING IS PERCISE AS WELL AS HIS USE IN THE GAME.THEN WE MOVE ON TO THE DWARF(NO REALLY HIS NAME IS DWARF SOMETHING),THIS CHARACTER IS THE ONLY THING THAT DISAPPOINTED ME IN THIS GAME.HE ONLY HAS TWO OR THREE MAGIC ABILITIES.AND IN THIS GAME MAGIC ABILITIE ARE A PRIME REQUIREMENT.ALL HE IS REALLY GOOD WITH IS CLOSE QUARTERS COMBAT,WHICH LEADS TO HIS DEATH SOME TIMES,BUT HE IS GOOD AT WIELDING TWO WEAPONS. BY THE WAY THERE IS A MUCH EASIER WAY TO GET THE EXTRA CHARACTER IN THE GAUNTLET. FIRST USE THIS CHEAT TO GIVE ELF SOURCERESS ALL POWERS: LEFT TRIGGER ALL WAY DOWN,THEN PRESS R,Y,AND A.SHE NOW HAS ALL HER SPELLS(SCROLL THROUGH THEM USING DIRCTIONAL PAD).AFTER YOU ENTERED THE CHEAT SAVE THE GAME,THEN LOAD THE GAME OVER AND PRESS EXIT TO MAIN MENU.PRESS START NEW GAME THEN CHOOSE THE ARCHER PRESS START AND THEN IMPORT CHARACTERS.TAKE THE ELF SOURCERER,SAVE THAT GAME IN THE TAVERN THEN PRESS GO TO MAIN MENU AGAIN.THEN GO TO THE GAUNTLET,YOU WILL PLAY AS DRIZZT.WHEN YOU DIE RIGHT BEFORE IT TELLS YOU TO EITHER QUIT OR TRY AGAIN PRESS START THE IMPORT CHARACTERS AND CHOOSE THE SOURCERES.YOU NOW HOLD CONTROL OVER THE MOST POWERFUL CHARACTER.THEN IF YOU DIE WITH THE SOURCERER,CHOOSE THE ARCHERER FROM IMPORT CHARACTERS,THEN FIGHT IF YOU DIE.DO IT AGAIN IMPORT THE SOURCERES UNTIL U BEAT THE GUANTLET AND HAVE DRIZZT.EVERYBODY SHOULD ENJOY THIS GAME.RPG GAME REALLY OUTDONE ITSELF WITH THIS RELEASE:))) PS.I THINK YOU CAN ONLY GET THE GAUNTLET IF YOU BEAT THE GAME ON EXTREME IF SO,USE THIS CHEAT FOR LEVEL WARP:LEFT TRIGER ALL WAY DOWN,RIGHT TRIGGER HALF WAY DOWN,THEN PRESS Y+A+LEFT STICK,RIGHT STICK,AND START.THIS IS TRICKY IT COULD TAKE TWO PEOPLE TO DO THIS.

My family plays this over and over.....

The opportunity to play alongside somebody else is SO worth every penny you spend on this game. People may have some complaints about it from a RPG perspective or other perpectives but the advantage of playing with my son or daughter has provided years of enjoyment and common experience. 2 Thumbs WAY up!

Very great RPG!

When my freind introduced this game to me I thought it was the most complicated game! When I got into it the adventure and the monsters they had in the game it was the greatest!!They have an great story to go with it you have to buy this game and see what I mean!!!!You will become a fan very quickly,(EDIT) but it is short I'm still waiting for the seqal, Brandon and I finished it in 17 hours, but just because we where going for a record of my house! Love the hack and slash with plenty of weapons and armor and places. So I'm not changing my ratings though. I always play as the Dwarven (Dwarf) Fighter, he is awsome Always use the Bull Rush!

Sincerily,
Snow Leapord

This has been the best XBOX game I have played so far. Fantastic graphics.(The water is awesome) I love the challanges and the battles. The ease of control was great.(This is very important). I do not like using 2 control functions to move and see. I compare htis to the harry potter game. (Also very good control)
I look forward to the next Baldurs game on XBOX

Pretty repetitive

I really like these types of RPG games but was really disappointed when I played it. The graphics were really great and the sound wasn't too bad, but that's about the only positive thing I have to say about this game. I find it difficult when you play a game and you cannot change the view. When you're playing, you see everything from a birds eye view, which is disappointing. The game gets repetitive quickly. You always seem to be fighting the same monsters in the crypt and nothing seems to change. If you like games like Diablo, this one isn't for you.

Awesome for serious gamers!

This game is not your typical console title. It's more like a PC roleplaing game with a distinct console aftertaste. The fighting sytem is rather interesting. It is based on typical roleplaing rules. In other words, there are hitpoints, XP, and the like. On the other hand, the player def. influences the outcome of fights by aiming at oponents, or by defending their position. If you shoot an arrow and you miss: Tough luck. However, once you hit the target, the hit points are calculated based you armor and weapons ratings, and the like. It sounds a bit weird, especially if you are used to PC roleplaying games. I was sceptical at first, but as a PC roleplaying fan I gotta say: This works rather well!

The graphics are beautiful. The gameplay is fun. I especially like cooperative muliplayer.

In my mind, this is one of the most underrated xbox games so far. If you are a bit more serious about gaming and like to go beyond extreme sports and mech fights, this is for you!

One of the best Xbox games

If you have been looking for a great two player RPG for your xbox, look no further. It has arived with Dark Alliance.
I have been reading some of the other reviews. The other reviewers are correct in that the game has limited (literally three) character choices (a dwarf fighter, human archer, or elf mage). You don't even get to choose their name or roll their stats. HOWEVER...the characters are customizeable as you raise levels. Each time you level you obtain feat points which can be added to a skill of your choice. For example, if you are playing the archer character, you can put feat points onto a skill which raises your hit and damage with arrows, or a skill which allows you to carry more equipment, or a flame arrow spell. Every four levels you get to add one point to an ability score of your choice. This in itself allows a lot of customization.
Gameplay is comparable to games such as Diablo2, but with much better graphics. I would liken the graphics to the movie Final Fantasy.
Now...if you want to replay the entire game with one of your high level characters you can. All you have to do is start a new game and import the high level character from your other saved game. This allows you to raise to as high a level as you want, as you can get experience points galore.
There are three difficulty levels to start. If you complete a challenge mode called "The Gauntlet," (which I think is way too hard. ...) you can access two higher difficulty modes. I have not yet unlocked them but I am guessing that they have extremely powerful magic items.
One complaint I have is that the game strays a lot from the real rules of Dungeons and Dragons 3rd edition. While many things are the same, many more are far different. For example, you can obtain a weapon which does over 100 points of base damage! The armor class system apears to be the same at first, but later on you find full platemail +5 which adds 44 points to your armor class!
If you play the sorcoress, the most powerful spell is a new spell called "Ball Lightning." Almost all the spells are damage spells, such as magic missile, fireball, cone of cold, Melf's acid arrow, and even meteor swarm. This sort of turns the sorcoress into a walking artillery piece. None of the many useful spells which do not damage, such as invisibility or hold person are obtainable.
Despite its drawbacks, you just can't beat playing a coop RPG with amazing graphics. I would highly recommend it.
