Arena Football

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 9 / 9

I have Blitz The League, Madden 06, and now Arena Football. I have enjoyed, and like all three for their distinctly different game play and style.

Arena Football gives you the realization of how small the field actually is. QB dropping deep or rolling to buy time works against you, or it has for me in the four games I played. Pass plays must be thrown on time and reads quick. Lack of extra deep safety, unless you give up underneath coverage, makes a much more wide open game.

Plenty of plays (true to Arena style) to choose from. Play is fast and camera changes zoom and angle which makes it tougher to play defense. Also almost every play I chose had some level of success to it, unlike Madden where you junk a ton of plays because they never work.

True to life Arena rules makes it tough (only blitzing 1 LB and between the tackles) to get to the QB. Gives the opponent (whether computer or human) a chance for success. Also prevents the mass blitz you use in Madden. Tough, as in the real game, to make defensive stops. This will make it a good multiplayer game. Have gone into the 4th trailing.

The menu, similar to other EA football games, is streamlined and simple. You don't have alot of the "fluff" (newspaper articles, grumbling players, etc.) that you have and usually ignore in the other games. Makes you remember and smile about the simpler times in our football games.

Game flows well. Running clock, 1 minute rules, etc. make it go by faster. The faster game play (overall speed) is enjoyable too.

It has a true Arena feel to it. Player intro's are true to form for arena. In four games I have already seen it all. Kick return for TD, kick muffed off the nets, onside kicks, pass caught off the nets, int, int then fumble, pass caught off the wall, pass tipped by 1 defender and caught by the other WR I wasn't throwing to who stayed on his route, safety, mulitple point swings, and of course big hits into the wall and flipping over the wall. Also teams with traditional good runners Georgia and Chicago had solid run plays against me where they normally attempt them too.

I have gone to several AFL games and when explaining it I tell people that it is totally different than regular football (but it has the football pieces to it). When you understand that and get the rules it is a fun game to watch and see the strategies used. The same holds true for the video game. It's not Blitz, not Madden, but has it's own distinct feel to it.

Right on the money! Thanks EA Sports! And Go GA Force!!

Arena football is the best spectator sport in the country. And now it's the best video game! This is a very real to life game that's a blast. Fast action. No where to run. The field is small and you have got to be on your game and get your plays off quickly. This is a fantastic video game version of a fantastic professional sport. Check this game out and then check out an actual game. You'll appreciate video game even more after seeing an actual game. And you'll appreciate the actual game more after playing the video game.

Thanks EA Sports. And Go Georgia Force! They are the best AFL team in the league.

Great Flagship for a New EA Franchise

Kudos to EA Sports for putting together such a great first game. Then again, should we expect anything less from them when it comes to football simulators? Being from Salt Lake City, I am just getting my taste of Arena Football with our new franchise the Blaze. But after attending the first game, I was hooked. I have been a Madden fan since day one, and have loved NCAA Football as well. Arena Football does not disappoint, and can be mentioned with those two great games. Is it perfect, of course not, are there people that won't like, of course. But if you enjoy the arena game at all, and it is quite different from it's outdoor sibling, then don't hesitate to pick up this title. It is a good one.

Finally A Great AFL Game!

I never played Curt Warner's AFL for the PSX, so I've been waiting forever for this game. I wanted an alternate game to my all time favorite NFL 2k5, and I considered Blitz the League. But I waited for this one, and AFL delivers. You start off with around 20 afl teams, and more can unlocked during the course of the game. You unlock teams by big plays, milestones, interceptions, points, and various other methods. They even have teams to unlock that are no longer in the league. I created the Memphis Pharohs, who used to be in the league in the 90's before they moved away. Then to my shock and delight, I unlocked them after scoring 80 points the first time! I've unlocked about 15 additional teams so far, and theres more to go. The gameplay is more a sim than arcade football. The LB have to stay inside the box, unless covering the RB or TE. Corners can't blitz the QB, and all the AFL rules apply to this game. Defense is the hardest part of this game, and sacks and interceptions are a premium to stopping the other team. The cutscenes are a little arcadish, but they're ok. Graphics are good not great, sound is good, and gameplay is fun. You can create teams and players, but I haven't tried creating my own plays yet. There are lots of options for creating your team, so you can detail the uniforms to the last dot. It is hard to run on the game, so don't get frustrated by it. Xlive has online leagues and gameplay. Even if you don't know squat about the AFL, you can have fun while learning. Buy this game and go support your local AFL team....Go Nashville Cats!!!

Arena Football Finally Has A Game To Be Proud Of - Gravity Press

With Arena Football, EA Sports has officially declared it's domination of the football game market. Not just becuase they make every licensed football game, but because this one is good. The feel of Arena Football couldn't have been captured any better than it has been with this game.

The game feels like Arena Football right off the bat. The field is smaller, the teams are smaller, the uprights are smaller, you're chances of having a successful running game are smaller. Yes, this is Arena Ball at it's finest. Fun passing plays makes up the majority of this one and a unique kicking meter is the telltale difference between this and Madden. The play is arcadish, but remains true to the AFL, by keeping all of the game's rules intact.

The game has it's flaws though. The kicking can be hard to adjust to, or even succeed at without some practice, and season mode is a litte bare bones. As a matter of fact, almost the whole game is. The only modes of play consist of quick play, season, and practice. No tournaments or minigames. The create a player/team is decent work but it's nothing amazing.

So while the game is a little lacking in meat, it makes up for it through a ton of entertainment value, especially when you hit that 49-yard, off the net, hail mary pass to beat your friend as the clock winds down. Only Arena Football could give you that.

EA Sports Nails It

Arena Football by EA Sports is one of the most fun sports video games I have ever played. Being an avid AFL fan, I was going to be more of a stickler for rules, gameplay, and overall presentation than most people, but this effort by EA is one worth commending. This game is truly a good representation of what the AFL is all about. The gameplay is faster than madden, the playbook likens to that of a real AFL team, and all the little details that make the AFL great are included.

One of the best features about the game is the "control the reciever" function. Before the snap, you can select which reciever you want to control by scrolling through them with the "B" button, and you can run your route and break it off when neccesary. One thing you have to be aware of is the time frame to throw the ball. In the AFL, there is a certain window of opportunity to throw the ball and once it's gone, you might as well throw the ball away. The hits over the wall are like the AFL, and the after play animations will appeal to a younger audience as well.

All the teams are in the game, including over 30 historical AFL teams such as the New Orleans Night, who's uniforms liken themselves to Zubaz. The gameplay, season mode, and overall representation of the AFL is very good in this game. While the lighting in the game is more like a rock concert, there is still plenty of visibility on the field. Overall the pyrotechnics combined with razzle dazzle play that is the AFL makes for a great game, that will not only fill the appetite for AFL fans, but definitly drag in the casual fan.

I got this game a while back from JR got here very fast. when i got it i played for hours and hours... then days and days this game is so much fun. the players have their actual names which came as a little suprise to me because it's not one of the biggest of sports. i just one minor probelm which was the ability to tackle. i go to wrangler games sometimes and it is a lot easier to tackle people which isn't really a bad thing. otherwise it was very good on offense where your lucky to get a big run (unless you created a player which is fun) and the offense is really pass based. another feature i liked was that you can create your own team they can either be basically all created or a fantasy team which allows you to create your own dream team (all as under cap) this game was extremly fun and proves that arena football will end up being the next big thing... go wranglers
