OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast for Microsoft Xbox is an amazing driving game! Contains two Sega Arcade Games by Yu Suzuki and his AM2 Division. Coast 2 Coast features the 2003 Arcade Hit: OutRun 2 and the 2004 Arcade Hit: OutRun 2SP Special Tours. There are 30 individual stages plus you can race them reverse. The game has many modes: Arcade Mode, Heartattack Mode, Time Trial, Stage Time Trial, Coast 2 Coast Mission Challenge Mode and Xbox Live Online Racing! Features many unique Ferrari cars which are presented in different classes...Novice, Intermediate, Professional, Tuned or Untuned, and the top OutRun Class! Xbox version of OutRun 2006 delivers smooth frame rate and beautiful 3D graphics. Game moves super smooth, runs in a fast controlled pace and the graphics are highly detailed. Game uses a point system similiar to a role playing game. Like in a RPG, when you kill something you gain experience points. With OutRun 2006, when you drive a course or complete a mission, you'll recieve OutRun Miles. These miles are used to purchases new cars, new music, new courses and reverse course, etc.
OutRun 2 and OutRun 2SP Special Tours are two Sega Arcade Games that were created by Yu Suzuki and his AM2 Division. Sega decided to let Sumo Digital program OutRun 2006 for Xbox, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable and PC because AM2 is hard at work creating Shenmue 3 and Virtua Fighter 5 for next generation consoles. Also, AM2 continues to develop exciting new arcade machine games. Sumo Digital did a great job of reprograming Yu Suzuki and AM2's work. Game looks and moves beautiful. All game modes are faithful to the arcade machines and online Xbox Live mode is virtually lag free. You can barely notice a difference online or offline. Sumo Digital gets 4 out of 5 stars. One star short of perfection because they forgot to include the two awesome bonus courses from the original OutRun 2 Xbox game into OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast.
OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast for Microsoft Xbox has been discontinued by Sega before it was ever launched on April 25, 2006. Luckly, Sega did ship a very small percentage to forfill the pre-order demands. But most U.S. retailers like Target, Walmart, Toys R Us and some EB Games stores never offered this Xbox version on launch day and months later. I believe Sony paid Sega to stop production and distribution of OutRun 2006 for Microsoft Xbox. OutRun 2006 for PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable can be purchased anywhere...but the Xbox version is nowhere to be found. It's possible that Sega created a superior version of OutRun 2006 using the technology inside the Xbox system. I suppose Sony didn't want to be out-classed by Microsoft...so Sony paid Sega under the table to distribute OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast exclusively for PlayStation 2/PlayStation Portable and Sega accepted. I guess 20-22 million Xbox gamers arent good enough for OutRun 2006 Coast 2 Coast!?!
Due to Sega's inside deal with Sony, the Xbox version of OutRun 2006 is very limited, extremely hard to find and virtually has no online gaming community. As of August 27, 2006...there are 290 total registered Xbox Live online players worldwide. Because Sega discontinued the Xbox game and exclusively produces OutRun 2006 for Sony, finding a Xbox Live online opponent is nearly impossible. I find that when you create game room and wait 4-6 hours, most likely 1 person will join to play. While playing, you'll start winning the race and the person will quit. Return back to the game lobby room and wait another 4-6 hours for another person to join. It's sad but 100% true.
In conclusion, OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast delivers an awesome Sega Racing Experience. Gameplay is smooth, fast and beautiful! Yu Suzuki and his AM2 Division do incredible work. They are the KINGS of the arcades and gaming industry. Outstanding arcade perfect translation on Xbox! It's a shame that Sega discontinued this Xbox version and deprived many Xbox gamers the thrill of OutRun racing. OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast is truly Sega's best in years! This is the final U.S. Sega game for Microsoft Xbox. Hours of fun and challenges await you. Put it in your amazon shopping cart!
