Best first person shooter yet

Splinter cell Pandora Tommarow incorperates all the pluses of the original and all the best parts of it are even better. You can do all the moves of the original, plus a few more. The graphics are even better than the first and there are several outdoor missions in which the sun either sets or rises gradually, changing the shodows in which you can hide. Speaking of hiding, there is now an on screen gauge that tells how visable you are to enemy mercinarys.

There is now a unique multi-player that allows you and three others to play each other, X-box and PS2 have it, but I'm not sure about Gamecube. You can play 1 on 3 or 2 on 2; one side are the spies and the other are the mercinaries. Each are evenly matched, but each have different advantages. The spies can see from a third person view allowing them to be more aware of their surroundings while the mercinaries have a first person veiw allowing them to shoot more accuratly, but they can't see behind or to the side of themselves. Each side has their own gadgets and each have thier own weapons as well their own objectives, the spies have to complete an objective and the mercinaries have to stop them. The mercinaries have auto-matic weapons that can easily kill a spy but all the spies have are one shot pistols that can only stun an enemy, thus the only way a spy can kill a mercinary is either by jumping on him or breaking his neck. The mercinaries have the advantage in open combat, but their poor vision means tht a spy can gain the upper hand with stealth, at least untill they're discovered. This means that both sides need different stratagies to win.

I am looking toward this sequel. I own Rainbows Six 3: Raven Shield and I can't wait the multiplayer option for this game. It's going to be deadly and bloody!!! Those who own Raven Shield knows what I am talking about. However unlike Raven Shield, you have the possibility to make some top notch moves...:).
The screenshoot seems that they have changed the view for the multiplayer part to increase the playability. Hopefully they will change also the crosshair which was quite terrible in the first game!!! The story and difficulty of the game should equally be the same.

WARNING to all CDRW drive owners

Just a friendly warning to all CDR/CDRW/DVDR/DVDRW drive owners. UBI Soft as a "feature" on their PC software that prevents installation from any drive with write capacity. Why they feel that will slow down a game cracker, and why they don't mind blowing off an entire segment of the market, is entirely beyond me, but that's not the point here. Call UBI Soft tech support BEFORE buying this or any other PC game from them, and check to make sure whether or not you will be able to install. Software (such as Chessmaster 9000, just to grab a random example) doesn't come with a warning on the box (in "some" cases, they claim -- I haven't found a single box that does), nor is there a warning on the Amazon product pages (short of reviews like this). One could speculate that they're perfectly happy to let people buy their software knowing some won't be able to install it, but I'll leave their motivation to give no warning to consumers to your imagination.

UBI Soft's tech support has said that this "feature" extends to *all* of their PC titles. So fair warning, particularly to folks with laptops where DVD/CDRW drives came standard, ask before you buy. Perhaps if enough people have a problem with this flawed policy, UBI will smarten up. "Flawed" because limiting installs to drives without write capacity isn't going to slow a determined game cracker/pirate down, it's only going to prevent normal consumers from being able to install the game. Worse, they don't find out until they've opened the package and tried to install, which in some cases is enough to prevent a return and refund from the seller.

I'm certain this game deserves more than 1 star, and suspect it will see some good reviews from people who are able to install, but I can't give it more than a single. That's a commentary on UBI Soft and their "feature", not about the game itself. In fact, when I get around to writing a review of the XBox version, it may well merit a 5-star rating.

I have installed and run the first Splinter Cell and other Ubi Soft games using my Plextor 12/10/32 SCSI CD burner. One of my friends has had no trouble installing and running Splinter Cell, Rogue Spear, Rainbow Six, and other games using his Sony 52/24/52 CD burner.

Others have noted incompatibilities between certain CD drives and copy-protection schemes such as SafeDisc (which has been used on Splinter Cell and many other games).

Sorry about the star rating...I just set it to balance out Will's because I had to rate it. However, nobody can honestly rate this game since nobody has played it yet.

*** UPDATE ***

This game ROCKS!!! I installed it first on my desktop with the Plextor 12/10/32 SCSI CD burner, then later on my Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop. The only problems I have with this game are that the menu freezes up sometimes when you go from the main menu to the single-player menu, and that the multiplayer sucks. You can fix the menu problem by reading the tech support forums. The solution to the freezing is to run the single-player executable directly instead of launching it from the main menu.

The multiplayer version runs slow and is not much fun to play. I also dislike that the multiplayer game bears absolutely no resemblance to the single-player game. They don't even share any of the same controls by default!

Take a deep breath...hold it...now release slowly... Better?

Let's all just calm down a bit. Is there a problem? Perhaps, ... I don't know. However, let's just ponder a bit on the "overall" issue raised which was - Would a large company REALLY release a product that WILL NOT install or play with a cd/dvd burner?

To answer that, NO they would not. Consider how many computers are sold, and already have been sold, with ONLY 1 cd/dvd burner. Millions. So, they would be cutting their own throat if they purposely did that. If you just think about that for a min, you will realize that this is being blown out to be WAY bigger than it is. Now, is there a problem with it not installing under certain conditions, etc... Perhaps. Well, what game in recent history did not have to be patched? It's just as simple as that.

The problem, if it exists at all, WILL be fixed by the company ASAP. There is no malicious or intentional programming to keep persons from playing the game. That is just ridiculous. Also, I agree, you really can't "review" a game until it is released, so all those doing so here are just stating their own "personal" opinion as to what they "hope" it will be like. Me too... I hope it is GREAT.

Get over it!!

Hey look, give me a break with your pitiful whining. You can get a CD-ROM for about $10. You can get a DVD-ROM for about $25. It takes about 10 seconds to install. If your PC doesn't have room for two optical drives, you probably won't be able to play this game anyway so stop it already. Most games, all makers, tell you its not recommended to play them on a CD-RW anyway.
Now, back to the game. The original was excellent. It looked good. It was unique, and it had an excellent feel about it. I'm sure this will be just as good.

CD-RW issues

UbiSoft makes note of the issue on their web page. It's sadly verifiable. CDRW drives will have a hard time reading any UbiSoft game, it's not a rule without exception, but it will most definetly hinder some people's ability to play the game. If you want to verify this please check out UbiSoft's own website, in their FAQ- just type in "CD-RW" for your search. You won't definetly have issues with the game...but then again you might.

Such are the joys of a world where people pirate software and companies try to stop them. It's pretty lousy for everyone, the companies which make the product, the gamers who play the product, even the pirates who try to steal the product...

As for my score, I played the demo and loved it, that's all I've got to go on.

It appears that the game will not work with Mobility Radeon 7500 with only 32 MB of RAM. Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on whether or not it is worth it to purchase this game if I only have this card. My other specs exceed the minimum requirements. Thanks.

this game looks promising,but kinna wondering if they fixed the aiming thing where u walk when u pull out a gun. and what do they mean by arsenal of weapons and gear? they need to have somethin where u can utilize enemy weapons or somethin
