One word. Stunning. The range of motion of Sam Fisher is like playing an olympic gymnast/biathlete with no compunction. The graphics are sharp and clear and the PC AI is good; they are smart enough to take cover under fire, regroup, and notice noises and out-of-place objects (open doors, broken lights, etc.) The positional audio is above par, it gives you a real idea of the range of your victims and allows you to time your stalk with their footfalls and your strikes with ambient noises (lightning, machines, etc.) and will scare the crap out of you with hidden enemies if you aren't paying attention. Even the night vision is fuzzy (sucks, like in real-life, you dont use it unless you have to...), but its better than pitch darkness. I am playing this on a laptop with a Core 2 Duo 2GHz, 1GB of PC5400 RAM, and an ATI X1300 with 256MB of memory connected to a projector (120" viewable, yes 120, I am unhinged by the clarity) at 1280X800 and would not want to play this game with anything less. You can see the rain drip and rivulet down Sam's rubber SEAL suit on the highest settings! Sam is so quiet I am trying to play through without drawing a firearm.
Great game.

This is probably the best Tom Clancy game I have played. I would definitely recommend it.
Just a tip: save the game often (or use quick saves). This prevents much frustration with the game, especially if you are trying to play Stealth mode and get caught after half an hour of progress without saving.

I have no idea how this game is, because I was not sent the version I ordered. I ordered a CD-ROM and received a DVD; I don't have a DVD drive on my computer. Why should I have to buy a new drive because Amazon made an error?

Will not work with Vista, because the disk protection will not load into Vista. Works ok in XP and is somewhat fun.

The splinter cell series on the whole has gotten a lot better with each installment. It manages to bring a little of the stealth entertainment value. But, and this is a big one, It is no Thief. Thief TMA and DS were the ultimate stealth action games. The splinter cell series has a long way to go to providing the immersive experience that haunts you for weeks afterward like thief. For those who don't believe me, get a copy of the latest (thief 3) and try the cradle level. There has been no stealth level made that will get under your skin like this.
So although I applaud splinter cell for trying to further what has quickly become my favorite genre (stealth/action) they need to keep working on it.

I had read the reviews here and decided to purchase the game. I think the part that hooked me was a review that said "Unlike other games, you don't kill everybody in sight. You single out your target and disable the rest." I took it to heart. Although the game allows you to kill various guards and bad guys, the game is meant to be played as a solo operative that gets in quietly, accomplishes his mission, and leaves without anybody knowing he was there. The game seems to based on the "Thief" engine, a game I loved. The story line is fun, an unkown group has custody of "Mass Kernels" a computer algorithym that allows somebody to bypass American Warship Weapon systems and force North Korean Weapons systmes to fire. This escalates the world towards world war III. There's a littel detective work, and I love the "Interogate" function.
The down side, I wish you could interact with your environment more, it'd have been nice to have more say in your load out, and I would have prefered your standard training level as opposed to the educational video you have to watch to learn the moves.
A great game overall I highly recommend it.

I couldn't find any specs on this product about if it would run on Vista before purchasing it, but for the price, it was worth a try. After installing, my pc crashed. I had to do a restore to get everything back to normal. I'll be willing to bet it's the protection software that caused the problem. Some PC's w/Vista will take it, some won't. I might have been able to eventually make it work but didn't want to mess with it. Gave it to my friend who uses XP, it worked perfect. I couldn't give it a rating only because I couldn't run it. Not upset tho.

I had no problems with StarForce. The game ran fine on my X850XT, and it had great (some of the best I've heard in a game) voice acting. The story was ok, but the missions made up for it. The controls were a little odd at first.
If you've exhausted the Hitman series and are looking for something more or less similar, go for this.

It is a great game for adults (for you liberals out there that means over 18 and out of mommy and daddy's house).
