Cranage Like You've never seen

Infected is beautiful in the graphics department, absolutely disgusting in the morals department. THis game is about slaughtering millions and millions of zombie looking guys, and splatterering them all over your PSP. You do this again and again and again. This is fun, but eventually you will realize it is repetitive. You can string some combos and such but it really comes down to lots of shooting and killing the dead freaky zombie guys. Death Metal Soundtrack for people who would like to kill thier soul early. Online play is decent, but could have been as good as the ad hoc.

Bottom Line: Is it fun? Yes, but probably psychologicaly damaging. Will I keep it? For just a bit. Is it for kids? NO NO NO.

Addictive!!!

Damn, this game is so fun and addictive! It's totally twitch action and is really intense. You're blowing up hordes of zombies in a mass carnage the PSP has never seen before. You can even blow the zombies into the air and then splat them above your head. When this happens it says "Raining Guts" and the red rain falls on your head lol! In fact this game is hilarious through and through.
And then they have this really cool concept in multiplayer. You can spread your own virus to losers' PSPs. Then they spread your virus to other PSPs as you sit back and watch! You can then track how far your virus has spread online. I beat a couple of people and next thing you know I saw that they had spread my virus to cities across the country. Such power! Definitely get this game. It's a totally new experience in online gaming, while holding true to the fast-paced arcady gameplay we all know and love.

Infected is a disease you'll want to catch

Planet Moon Studios, the Scottish development squad credible for Citizen Kabuto and Armed & Dangerous, has another quirky title ready for gamers looking for something different in their action games. Infected, one of the most recent PSP releases, is a solid action title that is fast-paced and serves as a quick fix and a solid foundation for the PSP action/shooter genre.
In Infected, you play the role as an anti-viral officer named Stevens who must attempt to stop the contamination of New York City. A strange virus has infected the citizens of the city, including Stevens. Oddly, the virus doesn't affect Stevens the same as everyone else, and his blood is discovered to be the only way to kill the virus and those citizens who turned into flesh-eating zombies. So a viral gun is created, and it's your job to run around New York City turning all of the zombies into clouds and piles of blood and gore. The story doesn't really appear throughout the game but the few events you will see are funny enough that you'll want to listen to and watch what is happening on the screen.
The action hits you from the first mission and doesn't stop until you're tired of killing zombies. The game takes place in five different real-life NYC locations, including Central Park and Greenwich Village. In almost every level, you'll fight off hordes of the zombies while rescuing uninfected civilians, defending locations, and clearing places for evacuation helicopters to land. The way to kill the zombies is to weaken them until they change in color, which is your indication to use the viral gun that kills them off. Though this might sound like it takes more time than it should, the pace never slows from an all-out rush. Whether you're beating missions and earning medals on the single player or you're "infecting" the world with your in-game avatar in the Ad Hoc/Infrastructure wireless modes, there is surprisingly a lot to do in Infected. On top of that, there is an incentive to earn gold medals on each level, because these medals unlock things like new costumes, character faces, weapon upgrades, and more. These upgrades, especially the weapon ones, make the game even faster and more frantic than before, and they make your in-game avatar even more unique.
Even with such a fast pace, Infected looks good and plays smoothly. There isn't much variation between enemy models, though there are a few different types. That said, the models are pretty generic but look good all the same. The environments are detailed with different buildings, trees, and other environment pieces while a constant snow lays down on New York City. Of course, all that snow is broken up by firey explosions and red, bloody clouds when multiple viral gun kills are linked together. The explosions, gunshots, and blood splatter noises are fantastic alongside music from metal bands like Slipknot, Fear Factory, Chimera, and one of my personal favorite bands, Trivium. All of this graphical and audio presentation never stutters the frame rate, which runs very smoothly throughout the game. The controls don't hold things up, either. Except for movement, they're simple and rely on two or three main buttons to get the job done.
Infected's head-banger soundtrack and fast paced, no-brains-necessary action is very similar to a third-person, handheld version of Serious Sam. Whether that's your cup of tea or not is a different story, but I enjoyed Infected quite a lot. It's not the best PSP game, and you won't be playing it until next Christmas, but it's got the virus-infected charm and bloody, gory fun to keep action fans playing for quite some time. Check it out, it's one of the better shooters on the PSP.(NOTE: This review is also posted on a website for which I write video game reviews on a regular basis.)

This is soooo cool!!!

This game will blow your mind! You get infected but your immune to it so you use your blood to blow the zombies to bits. It sounds odd but its really fun. I didnt think it would be that gory but I was WRONG! Carnage starts when the game starts. Plus the awesome soundtrack including slipknot. Not only that but you can unlock all 9 of the people from slipknot as playable characters!! Buy asap if your into bloody games, if not...skip...BIG TIME!

Really laughable animation

The animation of this first-person shooter is simply laughable. It's very crude. The graphics sucks, too, as you can barely see details on your enemies and you can barely make out your own shape. The control system is okay, but the sound effect quite annoying. The gameplay is rather repetitive. It's no Resident Evil, that's for sure. I think this game sucks and is a waste of money.

this game is fun i mean ur just killing a hole bunch on zombies how cool is that. also u can be making a hole bunch of combos save people and online is pretty cool. u can make ur own viris and beat those people that suck then when they beat 3 people to get rid of it u have even more people spreading it. also u can be the hole band of slipknot for all those rocker fans u should get this game its fun. but the only reason i rated it is because it can get like gta were u just get bored also the game can be repeative but online is fun still

This game isn't going to redefine Video Games...

And if you are looking for something that will, you should look elsewere.

There have already been several reviews that explain the plot, so I'll skip that and just review the game.

Gameplay: Yes, this game is short (Only 36 or so levels, not counting online play). Yes, there are not a lot of levels (5 "areas" of New York that expand to larger sectors as the game progresses). But is it still fun to shoot, blast, and splat Zombies? Definitely. Playing through each mission trying to get the Gold metal in Hard is a challange, and that's great.

Controls: At first, the controls seem a bit awkward. But soon, I was circle-strafing a group of Ten Zombies with my machine gun and splating them with my viral gun at the same time. Good times. (Oh, and how can I forget mowing down waves of infected with my viral chainsaw)

Sounds: If you like Slipknot and the various metal bands that play constantly, then crank it up my friend. If you're like me, turn off the music and create your own soundtrack. Since the game is relatively short, the gunshots, zombie noises, etc. do not get that repetative.

Other: The customize-ability of your "Officer" is pretty extensive. Want a Drow in a Business Suit? How about a guy in doctor's scrubbs w/ bloody hands? Would you like to kill as Santa? Of course, there are hidden skins such as the members of Slipknot and Blood Rayne (no, her sword-claws are not usable) as well.

The between mission voiceovers, and the too few cut scenes had me laughing outloud. The sick humor of the creators is obvious even from the opening scene: when a boy in a wheelchair lights the tree in Rockifeller Plaza, only to see the light reveals a group of zombies. Frightened, he turns the light out and back on, but they are still there.

Online Play: If you take this game seriously and become good, you can see your avater or "virus" infect players all around the world. What happens is when you win their system is infected, and your avatar becomes the enemies in the highest three levels they can play. Also, when THEY play online, they have to look like you. If they win 3 times, your virus is gone, on to the players they beat. And so on and so on... The online modes are pretty intuitive, including a Mad Cow mode... you figure it out.

Overall: A decent game for the average joe. A awesome game for Zombie freaks like me. An even better game for metal heads and carnage happy individuals.

Should YOU buy this game? I don't know, I can't answer that. If I could, I'd be running Amazon instead of shopping here.

Piece of Junk

Infected is possibly the WORST game out for PSP. First of all the graphics are about the same quality as you would find on a Game Boy Pocket. The controls are confusing (...). By the time you switch weapons you're already dead. You can't kill the zombies with just one gun you need two. There are only three things I even remotely liked. 1. The intro was kinda funny and amusing. 2. The soundtrack. Slipknot,Ill Nino, that kinda stuff. 3. the fact that u could dress up as the members of Slipknot. (...) I'm not bashing the PSP system itself. PSP is great. I'm disappointed that a system as respectable as this would release such (...) Another thing is that most of the good levels are for multi player. And also you don't get much freedom. On the back cover it made you think u could run around New York killing zombies. In reality you're stuck in a space that's about 100 square feet. Here's my advice. Don't buy this! Go out and buy Grand Theft Auto; Liberty City Stories! Maybe a movie like The Devils Rejects for PSP. Anything that's not this and you'll be atleast a little bit happier than if you bought this piece of junk!
