PIXEL WARS!

This game is not good. I don't know how else to put it. I honestly am just astounded that people DO find it fun. It makes me feel like I'm missing something. To begin with, the interface is awful. You have to continually zoom in and zoom out because the minimap is worthless. maps are huge. There is no real differentiation between factions. It feels like they just skinned them differently and voila!
Now to my major complaint. The game is not fun.
First off, the units are too small. This would be ok if you could zoom in and rotate the camera around, but, being intelligent they decided to limit camera control to ZOOM IN SO MUCH YOU CANT SEE and ZOOM OUT SO THAT YOU'RE FIGHTING WITH PIXELS OF COLOR. Unfortunately that is really the only way to fight. If you zoom in in the slightest you are unable to really see the map. Next, Hey, I'm a game that requires a ridiculous computer for some reason. you see, I have bland textures and graphics that are not anything to write home about. plus you'll see a lot of those bland map textures because the game has you walking for ages to engage in a battle because the maps are so ridiculously large.
Time spent walking to battle; 3 minutes
Time battling: 30 seconds
Total amount of fun: 0 Seconds.
If you want something fun to play and don't need "flashy" graphics, aka an excuse to get into a computer war, "MY COMPUTER RUNS SUPREME COMMANDER MAXED, DOES YOURS?!?!", go play starcraft or warcraft or C+C. Hell, Company of Heroes got it right with wonderful maps, balanced factions, and gorgeous graphics. Go play anything but this game.

After playing this game for awhile, and waiting for the game play to get better via patches, I have to agree with most people here. Supreme Commander is simply just hype. It's all show and no substance. The graphics are great as far as explosions go. But the terrain lacks any detail or strategic points. The game units are too much the same. Land-grabbing, and holding onto it, is not necessary for play. Bases can just make metal now without the players needing to search for metal on the maps. Bases, and their buildings contained within them, are so well protected now that a player's only choice is to just go after the other Commanders on the map. Just send bombers over them once found. And repeat tactic until they're dead.
Total Annihilation has been mention so many times with these reviews, but with reason. Total annihilation and its expansion pack, The Core Contingency, raised the bar for RTS gaming ten years ago. So a lot of RTS players here (including me) were hoping for something great from the designer of Total Annihilation with this new game. It was a mistake all of us had made. For Supreme Commander has turned out to be just another RTS we will forget about. With its boring campaign story, it's much less powerful GUI and HUD, and its supremely steep hardware requirements for online multiplay, this game was a major insult to the huge Total Annihilation fan base that was Supreme Commander's prime demographic.
Rated 1 star for not being fun or addictive.

This game was intended to be pretty, nothing more nothing less. I played this game for a total of two hours before I realized its complete poop. Why do I say its so bad? Mainly because Each of the three sides have virtually identical units, the only thing I can find thats different about them is the artwork. Upgrading individual buildings one at a time is tedious and time consuming. Go and buy command and conquer three.

I'm fed up with companies writing reviews to their own games. I've had this poc for 3 days now and can't figure out why I haven't deleted it yet.
SC is a perfect example of a company getting too focused on a single aspect and neglecting the rest of the game. The graphics are mediocre, if you zoom in they're ok but you are forced to keep the map zoomed out the majority of time simply to observe adn control the whole mess. Speaking of control, there isn't much in this game. The units scatter and take their time to respond to any command.
In my opinion this is/was a waste of complete waste of money, and I'm annoyed I can't return it.
Huge dissapointment, wasted buying a super gaming computer

This game is overhyped. Been playing RTS since Dune 2, Age of empires, StarCraft, etc. It's been such a long time since a good RTS came out, was expecting this game to be the game of all time.
Bought a super gaming computer, even a 2nd monitor, got the game, installed it, played for 30 minutes, then the DVD is now used for wall decoration, and the DVD box is used as a window stopper.
The good -
1. I now have a very powerful computer.
2. The DVD box was the perfect size to be used for my window stopper. Very sturdy made.
The bad -
1. 3 identical races.
2. Zoom in is pointless in actual playing, only good for seeing how powerful your computer is.
3. Story, well never got into it. The gameplay was so boring, couldn't even keep my attention span over 30 minutes.
4. Didn't even want to bother selling it back to a local retailer, don't want other gamers to get buy this junk.
5. typical Bad RTS - no strategy at all. Build up the units, attack, destroy all. Forget micormanage, forget counterunit, a bigger army always wins.

Im not sure what the designers were trying to accomplish with this mess of programing but a game wasnt it! The controls are sluggish, meaning you order a unit to move and it takes a few moments for the unit to even respond. There really is no acutal skill needed to play this. Simply build up your defences, gather resources, then produce a horde of units to attack the AI en masse. The maps are WAY too large and the graphics are mediocre since you are forced to keep it zoomed out to keep an eye on the various happenings on the map. The system requirements are to much, I have a computer that is more than capable of handling it, but for the quality of game, the requirements seemed quite excessive. The game is also filled with flaws the greatest and the most serious was the fact that it caused my computer to crash and automatically restart when I tried to launch the game. I thought my computer was about to go, when i found forum after forum of people describing the exact same problem. In short enormous waste of money on a game that takes up and enormous amount of hardrive space and produces nothing but enormous disappointment.

Utter tedium. Large, boring maps where the primary strategy is to build, build and build... and finally tank-rush your opponent. It's also very inaccessible for the casual gamer, ver much like COH.
I welcome Command and Conquer 3 with open arms!
Sad extremely poor programming

Runs slow on a Dual Core with 2 GB of ram and 256 MB of video ram. It takes extremely poor programming to get this kind of a cr*****y game. Many other games run much faster while displaying many more polygons. The game play it's self of course is nothing new. Same old Starcraft knock off. Unit interaction is cumbersome considering most units are not visible if you zoom out enough to see their full firing range. Changing screen resolution does not help. I would go with Warcraft 3 over this anyday. Now If only I could return this piece of ........

I was a big fan of Total Annihilation when it came out a few years ago.It was innovative in RTS arena and very original. So I was first to get this one.
Let me just say this upfront, it was the biggest let down ever.
Why?
a) I have a 2.8 Intel with 1.5 gig ram and 7800 GF card yet the game was tottally unplayable on any map except the little tiny islands!!
I had to turn the graphics to low setting to get the game to a decent playable FPS.
So unless you have a dual processor with latest Video card this is not even worth looking at.
b) The game itself:
3 races that are amazingly so similar. Almost same tech tree.
The game is just your average RTS game. The only thing unique about it is the HUGE battles you can have on MASSIVE maps! That will not happen unless you have power rig PC.
So unless you have a high end dual or quad processor comp and LOVE massive battles, I'd skip this one.
A Supreme Disapointment!

Admins on servers for Supreme Commander has a huge power trip if you don't agree with what they say about the game and players / admin / mods they will kick and ban you.
The game has its flaws it is an OK game however there are several other RTS games out there without these flaws and that don't have power tripping admins. In fact GPG has a policy in place to REVOKE CDKEYs of users if they deem you a nuisance (don't agree with them)
So do yourself a HUGE favor and stay far away from this.
