I was looking forward to playing the new turtles game because like a few others on here, I grew up with the turtles from the 80's. Now I am a HUGE fan of changing stories up and making things more interesting, but these turtles were cheesy!!!
The boss fights in the Arcade version and other turtle games were FAR more exciting and a lot less repetitive. I played the game through and recognized only about 2 enemies from the original: Shredder and Stockman. Who are these other people?? And why is April and Casey this white-trash couple now??!!
Anyway, the gameplay was good and so were the graphics, but if you think you are getting old school turtles...RUN FAR AWAY.

P.S Whats with the new theme song??? GeeZZZZ

Great game but VERY long...

This game is very reminicent of the older geration TMNT games but it's MUCH more action packed...Anyone who thinks that this is the 4th TMNT game brought to a Nintendo system obviously forgets that there were 3 TMNT action games and a fighting game released for the NES,TMNT IV and TMNT Tournamrnt fighter for SNES and the 3 TMNT games released for Gameboy...

This new game, as well as, the new FoxBox cartoon, is based on the comic book, while the old school games are based on the older cartoon from more than a decade ago. I'm very impressed with this game EXCEPT for the ending...The ending IS NOT worth the effort you put into this game(4-5+ HOURS!!)...

I just hope the sequel's ending will be better than the ending for this otherwise fun game. My ONLY gripe about this game is the repetitive sound effects get annoying after a while...

Cute and colorful but too childish

From a graphics point of view this game is very impressive. Sadly from a gameplay angle it's kind of limited and every level is basically the same thing.

This could basically be described as a side-scrolling beat-em-up, though the uncontrollable camera POV becomes very annoying. And compared with old-school games of the same genre, it doesn't hold up. Pow, biff, bam, smack! It just goes on and on for the whole game.

There are some levels that could have been cool, like the rooftop or subway stages. How cool would it have been to chuck the bad guys off the roof or onto the subway tracks? Very, but an invisible wall prevents this from happening. It's so disappointed that a lot of exploration is cut short. In the subway level trains rocket past in the tunnels on either side of you, but in the middle tunnel (where you battle loads of bad guys) there's no trains at all. Most levels are this way, there's just no REAL interaction with the environment.

The Streets of Rage games on the Genesis were better. It's the same thing. The city is overrun with thugs headed by a big boss. You beat them up and kill the boss. TMNT does not improve on this concept. Cute graphics though.

It's also kind of easy. The game is totally aimed at kids. I've seen better, I've seen worse. But I would suggest renting the game as it's long-time appeal is drastically short.

Good Title for Younger Players

This game is a good one for younger players. The storyline is simple to follow, and most importantly, the game controls are pretty simple - you don't need to use any complex mult-button combinations, for example. My 4 year old son loves to play this game, and the two player mode is fun for he and I (or he and his sister) to use.

There are a number of levels, each divided into stages. Unfortunately, the game only saves your progress at each level instead of at each stage. So, you will probably end up repeating a lot of stages. For younger players that seem to enjoy repetition, this is not really an issue. More experienced players may need to intervene now and again to get the game moved into a new level and keep it fresh and interesting.

Game graphics/appearance is generally very good. The inability to save the game after each stage as opposed to each level and the following relatively minor issues prevent me from giving it 5 stars:

1. Repetetive voice effects get tiresome quickly (for adults, anyway)
2. Occasional frame-rate issues when there are a lot of explosions and/or characters appearing on-screen

As for the rating on this game, the violence is as minimal as possible given the storyline. Characters that are "destroyed" simply mysteriously vanish in a puff of smoke, and there is never any hint of blood or other serious injuries.

Again, if you are looking for a good game for younger players, TMNT definately deserves a try.

When I heard that there was a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game coming out I thought everything seems to have the ability to make a comeback. I remember playing the classic TMNT games over a decade ago. You know the ones on the NES. They were alot of fun. The funny thing is that it seemed that there was a little more to those classic games than just slicing and dicing your way to the next level. That's pretty much what you do in story mode. Oh and theres also a vs. mode. It's a fighting game with a couple of unlockable fighters. I have to say this is a great game to pop in and play with a friend or family member. And who could complain about the liquid smooth look of the game. The graphics are beautiful. Now alot of people say the game is very repetitious, well it is somewhat, however what makes it seem more repetitious is the spoken dialogue by the turtles. Stuff like "crack the whip", "shell shocker", "shell-nato", "turtle wax", "batter up", "anyone for stickball? I'm the stick you be the ball", "coming at ya", "raw hide" and more. You can picture it , I'm sure. Another thing, the words that pop up when you hit the enemies can be removed by going to options and turning them off. I thought that was cool because they got bothersome after a while. If you enjoy a no nonsense smash and bash.. this should be on your menu, and I'd say go ahead and order it.

Almost better than the original!

I loved the game the first time I played it on the demo in Mario kart Double dash. It is almost like the original. The levels are different but this TMNT game shares many similarities. personally all doubts about this game should be forgotten because this game is a sure fire blast for all TMNT fans!

Reminisant

I bought this game because i was a huge fan back in the day when the original turtles were around. The game was very well done, but it does get repetious. But it looks good and plays good. The only gripe i have about the game is its saving. I think it should save after every stage instead of every level. But i am having a blast with it and suggest it to anybody whom are fans now or where back when they really kicked butt.
