I love this game as I have all the Stronghold games. I like the fact that I can turn up or down the graphics quality to fit my system. This is a good idea because if you have a power rig you can take advantage of the great graphics and if you have a standard up to date system you can turn the graphics down and still play the game. I run this game on the middle graphics setting and still run into a little lag from time to time mostly with big battles. My system is an Intel 2.8g OCed to 3.2G, 512mb ramm with an Nvidia Geforce FX-5900 graphics card. I do turn off all of the extra programs that are running before I play Stronghold 2.
I did not have any trouble installing this game and I have played for hours straight without a problem with Version 1.2. I will admit that I have had a few game crashes that could have been this game but a few times it might have been something else in my system that triggered it.
I have completed both the economic campaign and the battle campaign plus a few of the king makers and the only bug that comes to mind is the one when I try to drag a box to select troops and it does not pick up. This does not happen all the time though.
Bottom line is I love this game. I like watching the people make wine by jumping up and down in the vat of grapes and watching the dogs from the hunting camps bring the birds to the granary. I really like this kind of detail. And for those of you that like laying siege to a castle there have been times when I would pull out a few catapults for an enemy castle instead of using ladder man just so I could watch the stone wall fly apart and the soldiers on the wall go flying right along with the pieces of wall. I am glad I bought this game.
AWESOME NEW ADDITION

I'm not sure why this update of Stronghold Crusader has gotten such poor ratings. I'm playing it on an Anthlon 2200 1.8 GHZ computer with 700 something mb of ram with a Radeon Video card with 256 MB and it plays fine. I've had NO issues what so ever. The grapics are INCREDIBLE compared to the older version of Stronghold Crusader. There is no comparison. I've spent hours upon hours building different castles. In the freebuild mode I can add just about anything to the landscape including waterfalls, ponds, animals and vegetation. I can add any color I want to the ground and create cliffs and mountains. Much more than the old game.
I also like the rat, gong and crime factors as that adds an extra element of excitement. Then, along with the addition of the Lords kitchen and the feasts and things, it is over the top. It's extremely rewarding to see the Lords kitchen fill up with barrels of wine, vegetable baskets, pigs, eel plates and geese. I really get a kick out of the pig and sheep farms as well. It's funny to watch the fat little sheep run around eating everything in site. The colors are also fantastic. So much better than the traditional light brown 'clay' color of the old game.
The only thing that I dont like compared to the last series is how the buildings crumble into nothing. At least in the first edition it would leave something that looked like ruins, but that is very minor. Also I dont like the workers houses. They look like little ugly mushrooms. I'd rather them look like colonial houses if anything at all.
As goofy as it sounds, I like just watching the granary fill up with food as the little workers deliver apples, cheese and bread. Kewl!
Such a great improvement over the antiquated original!!!
3-D does nothing for this game!

The 3-d does nothing to enhance the game and actually makes gameplay more difficult.
To really see the 3-d effects you must zoom way in, but then you see such a tiny piece of the map you must zoom all the way out. The camera is jumpy and the animations get jittery as you add more units.
This is on a 3Ghz machine with 768 Megs of RAM and Serial ATA RAID drives!
I ran right out and bought this game and played for several hours...it left me wanting to replay the original.
Save your money play the original until this one to goes into the bargin bin.

With gameplay similar to the original, this game is great. Stronghold 2 has some added goodies, fixes where the original got jacked up, and the whole honour/promotion deal (do good things for your people to gain honour which lets you raise an army or get promoted by the king). It also looks better than the original. I thought the campaigns were a little weak, so I stopped playing them and just played the scenarios--again...and again...and... This is one of those strategy games that has a great replay value by the way.
I give it the following scores: (5 being the highest)
Graphics: 5
Fun: 5
Gameplay: 5
Campaign: 2
Scenarios: 5
Replay Value: 5

I own the 1st 2 stronghold games and am fully anticipating the upcoming stronghold ledgends game. For Parents with kids who want this game , but worry about the rating, all Stronghold games feature no nudity or gore or any other things taking up the world today! Blood is in this game, and at first you may stick your nose up, but it is not disgusting and rather unrealistic.
For Adults and kids who want to know what stronghold games are like, i strongly reccomend the 3 games because they are fun due to
. Castle Management
. Medeival Warfare
. Historicly Correct Castles
. And Humor Among Other Things!
I personnaly adore these RTS games and like some kids out there have parents that are skeptical, but this game is A OK!!!!

I got this game four weeks ago and this one is excellent. You can play in builder (path of peace) or warrior style (path of war). I have medieval total war (a great game) but i love in stronghold 2 the simulation elements and that you need take care about people necesity (you are their lord). Please download latest patch to solve some freeze effect and adding new missions to your game. Enjoy it!
lots of new choices but too many new problems

This game i thought was going to be great! i have been looking online ever since three months ago i realized they were making a sequel. Never have i been so excited for a game to come out. then once it finally did and i got to play it i was truthfully disappointed. the new 3-D i found to be a distraction slowing the game down and making it difficult to look at what you want to look. also another difference from the first game is that now there are several more ways for popularity to decrease, including crime which requires at least five or six buildings in itself and then you still can't seem to get it to stop having a negative effect. Then there are the gong farmers and falcons for rat hunting. if they had to put these things in the game why did they have to make them occur every five seconds so that you spend more time trying to keep the popularity up then building your castle or fighting. Besides these things i must say that there is still one more thing that i was hardly satisfied with and that is kingmaker mode. Oh it was the complete opposite of what i expected. i thought that you would be given a surplus amount of space to construct and fortify your own initial province and then be given smaller plots to serve as estates. i was terribly wrong not only is the space a tiny block of land hardly large enough to support even a village but in times of need you can no longer send messages to your allies to ask for resources or aid. maybe i just haven't found it yet but it sures seems nonexistent. Besides these things i must say the game did do quite a bit to increase production for most building such as food and weapon produces and fighting as certainly improved if you ever get to fight at all. One more tiny thing though is that for some reason when i was playing kingmaker and my ally was olaf i suddenly became his enemy for no apparent reason and he started attacking me with catapults and destroyed many buildings. Then i was not able to attack him back to defend myself. Ohh the frustration oh well better pray that Stronghold 3 is better if there is one.

This game is more of the same if you own Crusader or Stronghold. The major difference of the aformentioned games is that they are playable. Stonghold 2 has many problems the major one is the constant lockup or freezing of game play. Don't waste your money.
Don't listen to most of the others...

This game is awesome. I was first a little worried that it wouldn't be with the reviews, I was wrong. This game is so much fun that it is unbelievable. I would have given it even more stars but I couldn't. The graphics are awesome. The stradegy is awesome. The gameplay is amazing. If I had to pick a flaw, I would say that if your computer doesn't have a very strong fan then the game can get some glitches. I completely recommend this game. Like I said, don't listen to most of the other reviews.

On my computer the game worked flawlessly. The game is very cool with hardly any cons. The cons are that the stupid peasants poo in the middle of your town and you have to build a gong farmer. The dungeons and punishment in the game is easy for any body that doesnt get it. You build a courthouse, a guard post, a torture guild, a punishment, and whenever the criminal has his bag out you click on the guard with the black staff then on the criminal then he will bring him to the dungeon to await his punishment. In this game though whenever I do free build where you build from scratch it just makes me die as soon as I start. What do I do?!
