Poor....

This game collection of Sonic is not that fun. It's full of old games with very poor graphics and sound. I bought this game for my kids and they don't enjoy it very much (they almost never play with it). If you really love Sonic, then there are other games better than this. Don't lose money and time with this game.

Finally. Sonic CD on a console other than the Sega CD

It goes without saying that more than half of the people buying this game are buying it for Sonic CD alone. Not a bad thing at all, I'm just saying from experience, the rest of the games on this disc are really not worth playing, so I'm just reviewing their treatment of Sonic CD

It's the opinion of many ( including me ) that Sonic CD is the greatest Sonic game ever made. Every level has 3 different versions, past future present etc, excellent music and graphics, awesome special stage etc. But unfortunately this Gamecube disc version has some differences both good and bad from the Sega CD version. A good difference is the opening animation for the gamecube version is so much better quality that it makes you really see how bad the Sega CD's full motion video really was. It's so beautifully improved. All of the graphics are somewhat improved too and/or just as good as the Sega CD version. The only downfall is the SOUND. The music a little bit but mainly the sound effects are very very VERY noticably lower quality when compared to the Sega CD version and it honestly does effect the value of the game. I'm sure some other people know what I'm talking about but when I play the sonic gems version, part of my brain just says man, I wish the sound was the same. To be completely honest, the Sega CD disc had mezmerizing crystal clear hi fi sound, it was total ear candy. It doesn't seem like they did a very good job with the transfer, sonic's jumps, springs, and ring collecting sounds are so choppy almost as if someone recorded them with a hand held tape recorder or something.

In all honesty, the game is still enjoyable, the 50 billion different colors, the insane graphics, the opening and ending animations. But it lacks the Sega CD version in all it's QSound glory

old school'n fun

This is not as good as mega collection but still good.Sonic cd is good but not as good as sonic 1&2.Cause it is way to easy.I made it to the last level without even trying.Anyway the best game on the disc is sonic the fighters.

The kids will play for hours

A popular game. I purchased this for my 6 year old nephew and he loves it. The 9 year old plays with it as well. Truth be told - my husband also sits there and plays the game. Very comparable to a game for the full systems.

The reason i got this game was for Sonic CD. Without a doubt my favorite sonic game excluding the perfection that is Sonic and Knuckles 3. I used to play this game back on the PC when i used to have it. unfortunately i lost it and was overjoyed to hear it was remade for the gamecube. It plays flawlessly on my Wii and in 480p if you have component cables.

The gems collection contains Sonic R, A sonic fighting game (which is extremely fun and addicting, and surprisingly deep)and a couple others.

I would recommend this collection to any fans of the blue blur we all know and love. Relive the glory days of sonic in 2D.

The only reason to buy this is because of sonic cd. The other games are really just horse [...] (and thats a complament) The only other reason to buy this is for the unlocables. If you have a windows 98 computer you can buy sonic cd for it, you might wonder why I have not sugested a sega cd they cost about $100 and im not making that up. If you have a sega cd and don't have this game your messed up. Now for the other games Sonic R realy is not that great its not at all a fun racing game and it gets boring fast. Sonic Fighters is also not that great its an arcade game so it takes about 5 min to beat . The game gear games stink there very boring and will not keep your intrest long. Overal if there is no other way to get Sonic Cd for you buy it but cheap!

Its fun, but nothing we haven't seen before

The second complilation of Sonic games, the other being the Mega Collection, this one offers the 3 classics that the other missed: Sonic CD, Sonic R and Sonic the Fighters. Let me say this now: Sonic R and Sonic the Fighters are crap. I've beaten R in less than an hour, with all hidden characters and Chaos Emeralds, each track taking me no more or less than two attempts: One for the hidden character, one for the Emeralds.

The Game Gear games can be unlocked in Sonic Adventure: DX, so if you're getting this for those, it's much more fun to get them in Sonic Adventure, which is still a fun game, though a bit dated (but if you're getting this collection, you shouldn't be complaining about 'dated'). Sonic CD is definitelly a fun romp. I still haven't beaten it, I'm sorry to admit. The other games you unlock are fun as well... But you have to unlock them. Sorry, I can't recommend this game PURELY for Sonic CD, which is what rides the 'Fun' rating of this game. Hardcore Sonic fans ONLY need apply. And even *I* have seen the light and have tried other ways of feeling nostalgic for the old days.

These are considered gems..?

I gave this disc a rental and was extremely disappointed with the content. The six game gear titles are an automatic waste of space, and Sonic: R and Sonic the Fighters are decent for archival value but don't really hold anything that will keep players coming back for more. Sonic CD is actually quite fun, but time travel function aside it's not terribly different from the early Sonic games which can be found on the Sonic Mega Collection. You can unlock the old Vectorman games as well, and they do add a bit more value to this package.

If you're looking for classic 2D Sonic gaming, the Mega Collection is the compilation to check out. Hardcore fans will like what Sonic Gems has to offer, but the content is too dated and shallow to recommend to anyone else.

Sonic this, Sonic that.

My brother is a HUGE Sonic fan. All he ever talks about is Sonic. That's why our dad gave him Sonic Mega Collection for Cmhristmas. P.S. Why does he like Sonic so much?

I like this game

I don't have this game, but after all the movies I've seen on it, I am beginning to like it. I told my dad to get it for me as a birthday present. My sister, a big Tails fan, would love the Tails' Adventures & Tails Skypatrol games. (Sonic CD,) The game I have most desired to play, will make my dreams come true. I understand there are nine games, so are there any unlockable games?
