Why can't all games be like this?

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 5 / 5

This is, possibly, the single best platform game I have played. Ever.

I know it's better than Rayman 2. And that was a five star effort.

Basically, everything about this game just oozes quality. The graphics are as beautiful as ever, infact more beautiful than ever. Some of the bosses in particular are just jaw-dropping.
The sound is that typical UbiSoft Rayman beautiful-world symphony, except with a bit of an edge to it this time. It still sounds beautiful, and fits perfectly, except it now sounds like it was composed this century. Personal highlights of the soundtrack are the first Reflux boss and The Summit Beyond The Clouds.

Gameplay is more varied than ever. You'll platform it up a la Rayman 2. You'll shoot on rails a la Panzer Dragoon. You'll snowboard a la Sonic Adventure. You'll solve the most ingenious platform puzzles you ccould think of. And you'll do other stuff. Stuff I can't even describe. Like I once said reviewing Rayman 2, you'll do things that other companies need to sit down and have explained to them by a man with a large whiteboard.
Lastability-wise, not only are there tons of mini-games to unlock, but there's also the high score challenge, complete with online world ranking at Raymanzone.com.

But the best bit? THe presentation. Rayman has lost slightly the cutesy edge he acquired in R2, largely thanks to some great dialogue and fantastic voice acting. Including Billy West (Ren and Stimpy, Futurama, etc.) as the disgruntled, manual-badmouthing tutorial host Murfy and John Leguizamo (Ice Age, etc.) as the slightly-drunken (on plum juice) Globox. There's lots of self-referential humor as well ^_^

Order it from these lovely Amazon.compeople NOW.

Rayman 3 from a newbie's perspective

I'm new to the Rayman license, and was looking to try out the platformer. Many people I know enjoyed Rayman 2, so when this one came out, I figured I'd try it out.

I was impressed! Many of the colors in the game were bright, the humor dark, and all the right elements were there for a great platformer. That and the Gameboy Advance link-up bonuses, and the ability to compare your score against people across the world online made this an awesome package. I wasn't sure what was so great about Rayman, but now I'm convinced, and I still pick it up to play a couple hours after beating the game a while ago.

A great game, worth your hard earned money!

Fun Game

Rayman 3, Hoodlum Havoc is tops in all the catagories. Wonderful music, beautiful color, fun bonus games, lots of locations. The thing that really starts you out with a bang is Murphy, Rayman's sidekick and your personal, mouthy tutor. He goes one on one with you with assorted, hilarious insults if you don't perform well during the tryouts. My efforts were nothing short of pitiful. His choice remark that just about made fall off the chair laughing was. "What's the matter with you. Haven't you ever played a video game before?"

Platform Fans, Get Ready!!!

History:
It all started as a platform game with 2D graphics in the Playstation. Then, the sequel came out for both the Nintendo64 and the playtation, called Rayman 2:The Great Escape. Years later, Ubi-soft decided to add the Rayman 2 for the Playstation2 with some changes and improves, called Rayman 2:Revolution. And now, the third part is near for all consoles and the pc, called Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc.

How famous is Rayman?
It is considered that Rayman is Ubi-soft's most famous character.

What type of game is Rayman?
It is a platform game, which means it involves lots of jumping, climbing, and adventure (Like Mario style). Platform games are not a type of combat action game, you don't fight that much in platform titles. I mean, you do have weapons and items to destroy bad guys, but the platform games are more of the jumping action (jump from tree to tree, climb risks, swim, etc.). But Rayman breaks the definition of the platform games. It involves plenty of bad guys, combats, and action. Does this make it a bad platform title? NOPE! It improves the platforming games.

Features of Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc
- Rayman's in prime form with new high-tech powers and gear like Shock Rockets, the LockJaw, FunkyBoards, and other cool stuff.
- Charge into intense strategic battles with the crazed Hoodlum Army and massive transforming bosses.
- Plunge into enormous, eye-popping worlds packed with zany comedy and a wacked-out cast, featuring John Leguizamo as Globox.

Why is Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc a must buy?
Because it features one of the best characters in the videogame world, the previously released titles of Rayman have been a complete master piece, the graphics have improved incredibly, the worlds are bigger than ever, the genre has been evolved, the weapons and battle system have been changed and improved to best, and because its a platform title no one can miss.

Excellent game! Just 2 cons...

Everything's great for the most part! I've been Rayman gaming since the Playstation original. From there to Rayman 2: The Great Escape PC, to Rayman Arena PC, to this. And the PAL version Rayman Revolution Playstation2Platinum that doesn't work. I've won Rayman 1, 2, Arena, and 3. The hardest I won was Rayman 1. I won Rayman 3(R3) GameCube April 25th 2003 and have the GameCube, GameBoy Advance, and PC versions.

Story:

Trek through the fantasy world of Rayman! In his next adventure, Andre, the black lum lord(evil red lums changable through scaring them, red lums are also energy packed, useful info after the first half in the game), has changed all the red lums into black lums! Later, your best friend, Globox, a blue, fat, "toad-like" creature, swallows Andre or as Globox calls him, Andy, Rayman in the first half of the game must find a doctor who can help him cure Globox before the hoodlums catch him! Anyone who has played Rayman 2, Globox's first appearence, knows he was captured twice in that game...the second half, is before you first beat Reflux. After you beat him you can scare black lums(after being "K.O." in hoodlum form) into what were before, red lums! Even Andre! After the Desert of Knaaren, Andre comes out and tempts Reflux to steal the sceptor from Leptys(a statue; the king of the Knaaren), get it's energy and defeat Rayman! Can you save the world from this evil? Find out when you play Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc.

The cons...

1. It's quite short. I can beat the whole game within 1 day.
2. Michel Ancel didn't take part! Beyond Good & Evil (what he was working on then) was good but lots were disapointed he didn't help.

The pros...

1. This is a GBA-GC link game. Unlockable features for each.
GameBoy Advance:
I've got all lums and all levels completed. Here, depending on your lum amount, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, or all 1000 lums, unlock special mini-levels!
GameCube:
2 unlockable mini-games. 2D Madness, 2D Madness 2. How to get here? Load your game. Then highlight Bonus and press A. Go to minigames! 2 GBA/GC link games, Mad Trax and Wheelies, are only on GameCube.
2. Graphics are great! Realistic! To me, barely any game beats Mario at graphics but this does! Sadly, NO game so far beats Metroid Prime though. Animation is good and A.I. is better than most games!
3. Hidden secrets and areas to boost your score!
4. Participate in the Hall of Fame when finished the game! I'm on the GameCube Hall of Fame at rank 39 worldwide! 589681 points. Enter a special code on the RaymanZone website.
5. Score BIG combos! Combos work on almost every thing you can score with.
6. Cool, fun bosses! Like Masterkaag, Razoff, Reflux, The Horrible Machine(yep. that's it's name), and more!
7. Controls don't take forever to learn either. So you can have fun with the game without losing lifes not knowing controls!
8. Very fun game! Addicting and hard to put down!
9. Kinda humorous too! Andre LOVES plumjuice, so Globox is forced to drink it! Even though Globox is allergic to plumjuice!
10. Lots of enemies like Hoodblasters, Hoodmonger Officers, Hoodstormers, Grims, Grim Keepers, and many more!
11. This game has more than just walking around, knocking out hoodlums, you can ride in Rayman's shoe in some areas!
12. 5 powerups! Vortex, Heavy Metal Fist, Lockjaw, Shock Rocket, and Throttle Copter. Color-coded cans are found.
Green can-Vortex
Red can-Heavy Metal Fist
Blue can-Lockjaw
Orange can-Shock Rocket
Yellow can-Throttle Copter
They're more than just cans of laser detergent!
13. Great music! Hard to resist this kind of music! Each tune matches the level perfectly!
14. The game's levels are split into parts and auto-saves(if the feature is on. otherwise, you need to manually save. pause the game, go to save, save it on the memory card!). It even keeps the score!
15. Cages. Every 10 you bust, like Rayman 2, it expands your life bar!

More pros still!

Overall, about 4.80 of 5.00! Player's Choice edition is out! This is a must-have for ANY GameCube owner! Buy it now! Enjoy!

This game is da bomb!!

When i got this game, it seemed very easy, but its accually kinda difficult. There are cool bosses, such as The Hoodlum Stomper,Razoff the Hunter, and the Knaaren(with are very hard to persue)! This is one of the best games I've ever played. Its lots of fun getting through levels like ClearLeaf Forest,The Bog of Murk, and the Desert of the Knaaren. The whole game is about bringing your friend Globox to the doctor because he "accidentally" ate a black Lum.Whats really stupid about it is that each doctor tells you he cant fix up your friend and he send you to another doctor.Over all, this game is Great!!!

This almost beats Jak 3 and Ratchet 3!!!

I've played Rayman2 and loved so I just couldn't help getting the third installment. Raymans adventure begins when a red lum scared to death by something turns into crazed blacklums, the blacklum multiplies until only blacklums are left in the core of the world. After a couple of levels Globox swallows Andre, king of blacklums and those hoodlums won't give globox any peace until Andre comes out, meanwhile you as Rayman need to beat wacked-out levels to get to doctors and free globox of his pesky blacklum. Thats all really, just one level I need to warn you about, the desert of Knaaren, those guys are creepy! First they capture globox then they chase you, not to mention they're invinsible AND say weird stuff like "brains" and "tastes better salted" they are the real meaning of depressing. Now go buy it!!!!!

Lots of Pros, but a couple cons, but its still great!

Like all Rayman games, its an instant favorite to kids and even maybe adults, but the 3rd installment of Rayman is not one of those kind of games. Rayman 3 has an excellent story line featuring pretty much all your favorite characters like little, but not so little Globox, and the wise-crackin' Murph,(your guide throughout most of the game). The controls are easy to learn, I learned them the first day I got the game!, so i'd give the controls a 4/5. The graphics are magnificent!, you know how all the games you used to buy on Nintendo 64 had characters that didnt even move their mouth or show that much expression when they were sad or mad, well now you can take the thought off your mind, Rayman 3 has the best graphics in the entire Rayman series so far, so i'd give graphics 5/5. The only thing that turned me off is Raymans moves, all of them are pretty much the same except for a couple modifications which would would make your gameplay a little better, but i'll let you find out about those little modifications yourself. I know this review is short, but I can only type a limited amount of words so bare with me. Overall i'd give Rayman 3 a 4.75/5, and that is still a VERY good rating so I hope you fellow gamers enjoy Rayman as much as I have, see ya!

Some Thoughts

Dark and evil graphics add up to be an insane adventure from doctor to doctor in an attempt to aid Globox. Fighting off darklums, hoodlums and various other bosses you receive points. Points acquire bonus levels and extra games. Cinamatic sequences are unlocked after you progress past them, and the game is of medium length.
The only let down is Rayman's turning ability. Sometimes he'll take a couple of steps in the turning process, but it's managable for the most part.
