Prince of Persia: Sands of Time is the first Prince of Persia game that I have played and overall it is quite an enjoyable title. The plot, in short, is you the prince have created a world catastrophe and must undo what you have done. With the aid of the princess and the dagger of time you must fight, jump, run forward and backward in time to restore the world.
The concept is fun and well executed. The visuals are awsome and the movement of the prince very fluid and easy to handle. The concept of the prince telling the story that you are experincing is great fun. The best part of the game are the puzzles that have you leaping, running and jumping across multiple levels. They are introduced excellently, gradually increasing in difficulty as the player becomes more proficent at the moves. This is by far the best aspect of the game. Even better is the ability to go back in time when you miss a jump, or otherwise would die, and have a second chance. You never know how useful this is until you don't get to use it anymore and you say "hey, that going back in time stuff was really helpful"
For those more interested in fighting this is probably not the game for you. The fight scenes are more of an after thought than actually intregal to the game and become very repetative after a while. The fact that you have 4 enemies every time and when you kill a new one spawns immediately until you go through about 16 of them can make fight scenes very frustrating. Additionally, many of the princes moves (esp. the need to "Kill" the enemies with the dagger) often puts the prince in a defenseless position making the fight scenes un-necessarily difficult at times. The Prince does have a few special moves, some of which are quite difficult to execute.
If there is one big drawback to this game it is the camera angles. Since the game is played from 3/4 view, the camera often swivels around to track the prince. The problem is often the camera is out of position making it hard if not impossible to correctly execute the moves required to solve a puzzle. You do have control over the camera, fortunately, but this can be a very annoying issue in both fighting and puzzles when you don't have the time to re-task the camera.
Overall the puzzles are what make the game and makes it worth a few fight scenes and camera problems to get to the next puzzle. If you don't like puzzles this is probably not the game for you. Gameplay lasts about 6 - 8 hours so a rental is probably the best way to go but for only about $30 the game is not a waste of money if you are able to sell it to GameStop or on E-bay once you are done. Be sure to check out the extra features showing how the concept developed and additional artwork, it is a small but interesting look into the development of a platform game.
An amazing (short) game

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was a great play. I rented it to see if I liked it, which I did but the downside is, I already beat it. You control the Prince, who sometimes has smart a$$ remarks to the Princess ... but who wouldn't? Sometimes, you really do hate her. The weapons are a sword and the dagger which gives you the power to turn back time with the sand. I loved the fact that in this game there wasn't really any HUGE bad guy (except the end which was a disappointment but more on that later) ... mostly, you fight regular enemies, only they come in 3s and 4s and are at times extremely difficult. It would be hard not to use any sand circles. You will also have to turn back time if the Princess dies in battle. The game is mostly adventure, climbing walls, using polls to swing from ... a puzzling game. The puzzles aren't nearly as hard as some in other games but they are still mind boggling and could have you wondering for hours. There isn't a need for a guide in this game, unless you really REALLY need one, at save points you see a "vision" where is basically shows you what is to come. If you pay close attention to the vision, you should know what to do. As I said earlier, the final enemy was a disappointment, an old sorceror who is extremely EASY to beat. Especially after he says 'any last words to the Princess?', he just stands there, I didn't know what to do so I started hitting him with my sword and to my surprise, it worked! It's a must play, a game you could play on and on and never get tired of it. Try mastering it after you've beaten it - set challenges for yourself such as, don't use any sand during such and such, and so on. It's a great game, short (only took me 8-9 hours to beat), but nonetheless a good buy, it's cheap on Amazon so I would recommend buying it, I will. I cannot WAIT for the sequel!
Very cool game!

Wow! Once I started playing this game, I couldn't stop. The graphics in the game are beautiful. The Prince's moves are smooth and fluid. The Prince can run on and flip off the walls, vault over enemies, swing, hang, climb, roll, and do combinations of all these moves together. Once he gets the dagger he then has the ability to reverse, slow down, and speed up time. The best part is that all of these moves are very easy to execute, which makes it a lot more fun. The only problem is that it's a little too easy. I'm just a casual gamer and I beat the game in 2 days. Maybe they made the game easier so that it would feel like you are really kicking some butt, but it could have been more challenging I think. Other then that I would definitely recommend this game to anyone.

I really enjoyed this game. I don't think it is worth as much as it was when it first came out, but if you can get it for less than $20, do it! It's so much fun. It doesn't have a lot of replay value, other than blowing through the game again and maybe getting some of the sand clouds you missed. The game is pretty easy, except at some parts that might stump you. Also, it could be a lot longer. I beat the game within a week, but it will end up being almost twenty hours of gameplay if you enjoy it and don't rush. Again I say how much fun it is and encourage anyone who loves puzzles and lots of action in a game to buy this one.
Very enjoyable

This game is really a pleasure to play. It is just about the smoothest looking and playing console game I have. There are some slight flaws, which can be overlooked considering the overall package. Combat can be repetitive and uninspired, and for some the game might appear too short. All in all a very fun experience and I would recommend it for anyone that likes challenging gameplay and beautiful graphics... fun story as well. Buy IT!
^_^*******GREAT GAME!*******^_^

I am a fan of free roaming games and this is just a bit short of one. Yes you can roam all over the current area you are in but you cannot go back once you are done. The mazez are very good and the free form fighting is good as well. The only drawback of this game that I can think of is that everytime you fight enemies it is like it is a boss battle. exmp. You walk into a room, a cut scene shows what kind of enemy is there, you fight about 15 to 30, then a cut scene shows you scheath your sword and a save station pops up. Good thing it changes with the next series. Overall a very well mapped out game.
Different is definatly a better thing.

Every game which I have played in the past 6 months has been some sort of first person shooting or fighting. I, like most, get tired of the same old deal.
PROs:
POP4: Sands of Time is the bigest relief in first person shooters since I can remember. For those of you who like FPS and action games you will not be disapointed here because the game has it. The puzzles are what makes this game fantastic. Theres something about the way the Prince flings all over the room. You walk into a new room, and the game gives you a brief overview and some key points of the room. Now its your job, with the help of the game's AI partner (a girl), to solve the puzzles without falling, dieing, spiked, or impailed by deathly things. Dont worry so much if you do though, the game has a limited rewind feature.
CONs:
So far I have found little annoyances. The sound for instance does not seem to be coded correctly. I have an SB 5.1 LIVE using 5.1 speakers. Some things are very loud, like when an enemy falls. Other things such as dialog I cannot even hear. Putting the game on regular stereo sound helps.
Another annoying part is the cheap shots the enemys take on you. Once you knock down one, you have to stab him one more time to kill. This takes about 2 seconds of which you are completely volnerable to other attack and cannot parry.
I love this game!!
Brilliant!!

I read about this game online and was very excited to try it out. I got it the day it was released and I have to say it is better than I was hoping. It's beautifully made and so much fun to play. The graphics are amazing! If you have been waiting for a game worth wasting your weekends on this is it. I play it till my eyes start to close then get up the next day and play it again. I have even been dreaming about it! Highly recommended!
Super Fun

Price of Perisa: Sands of Time is a beautiful game that is, well, fun. Every dark and musty corner of the once-great palace you explore as a young prince who has unleashed a terrible plague is crafted with utmost detail; from the cracked stones and thin light that peers bleakly through narrow windows in a long hallway to the the sultan's exotic outdoor zoo, the branches of which are lit by the pale moon, this game's visuals certainly front a sense of mystery and danger.
Unfortunately, these striking visuals (and equally striking tribal sounds), are rather dulled with the appearence of an annoying princess that serves no other purpose as far as game play than to crawl through cracks and appear magically on the other side to open various doors for you. She effectively shatters the eerie mood.
You possess both a sword and dagger; the latter weapon possesses the power to slow and to halt time completely, both in combat and outside. Although a little difficult to master (I have always considered the intstruction booklet a sin, but was forced to turn to it in order to discover how to utilize the dagger's special powers properly), the dagger is quite a fun little item that is as useful as it is amusing. The zombie battles are at first exhilerating - you ward of the creatures with a combination of acrobatic flips and spins and the magical ability to warp time. Unfortunately, whenever there are zombies, rest assured there are thousands - literally. After a bit, you begin to dread their appearence instead of look forward to it. Hacking and slashing at every one becomes a bore, even with the dagger to play with. This boredom may have been solved by cutting down on the number of zombies and increasing the amount of skill needed to defeat them.
The story itself (something to do with Zombies and sand and time) is not altogether forgettable, but it is pushed aside in favor of you (as the prince) exploring the depths of the enormous palace left vacant in the wake of the recent disaster. It is great fun to explore all of its twisted chambers, and to leap from pole to pole and ledge to ledge, ocassionally striking down giant birds and killer insects while hanging precariously from either or. The puzzles are entirely forgettable - what ones exist are simple and a drag (such as activating the palace's weapons defense system). The real gem of the game is exploration; that is, finding that door or passage way you overlooked and finding a way to open it. Sometimes, the aforementioned gets rather tedious and painful, as once you find that passage way you tend to smack yourself in the head because of the obviousness of it all. More difficulty arises when you misjudge a distance that you must leap or how far you can run across a wall and fall to an untimely death. Of course, you have the dagger, and can conveniently zoom backwards in time. Of course, you may release the button too early and fall to your death. Again. Wasting the precious sand that fuels it. All along there was a ledge beneath your feet that you neglected to notice.
Despite it's problems, Prince of Persia is a great adventure with awesome graphics and a character who can do the coolest things - run across walls, backflip in slow motions, and all of those other Matrix-esque moves. The palace is haunting and brooding, and the gameplay fast and, usually, action-packed. The replay value is low, as much of the excitement comes from wondering what new landscape you will discover next.
All in all, worth what you pay and sure to bring many hours of mostly enjoyable play.
