This game pulls you in and does not disappoint

I love first person shooters. I happen to also enjoy Star Trek. Does this profile match yours? If so, go get this game...now! I had my doubts. Reading endlessly through reviews of games in magazines and online, I have seen other games that reviewers shove down my throat about being worth my hard earned dollar. This game was installed in the mid afternoon and it's nearly tomorrow. After so many recent purchases that turned out to cost more and just disappoint, I can honestly say that I will play this game until I've beaten it. Now, as far as replay value, this game does not top my charts, but very few single player games do. The multiplayer on this is fun, but if you want multiplayer buy Unreal Tournament. This game is based off of the tried and true Quake III engine, but don't let that fool you. Its visuals are on par with Rainbow Six III: Ravenshield.

Take home message: If you want to play a first person shooter that draws you in because of what's happening all around you, has familiar handling, involves the star trek universe, and you either can't wait or have the money to spend before half-life 2 is released, this is the game you want to get.

A poor excuse for a sequel...

Overall, I well... strongly disliked this game. But, since I don't want to start the review on a negative note, here are the pros. Well let's see now... the game is virtually bug-free, the interface has been improved (although it is a bit complex), and many many new ships, stations, and two races have been added.
Now for the cons (insert "Taps" music). To put it bluntly, the single player is downright boring. On all the missions I found myself uncaring about the fate of my fleets and wondering why I was doing this. The good news is they have fewer capaigns than the first one, at a whoping 3. You can't even play with my personal favorites, the Romulans, except in multiplayer. Another definite, but seemingly minor, con is the new Borg voice. Apparently, the Activision executives thought the perfect Borg voice from the first game needed some "improvements", so they of course made it much worse. It sounds like something you'd expect out of a two year old or a mental patient. Thirdly, the Z axis. While the Z axis is hard to do well in games, Armada II's is well... bad. If your ships go too high or too low they disapear and are hard to find. Last, there can be too much of a good thing. There are way too many ships and stations to keep track of and most of them are useless. Some people have complained that the ships are too weak, and most are, except for the Borg's tactical fusion cube. This thing can decimate entire bases in an instant. While that may sound fun, it gets old fast.
In conclusion, take my advice and don't get this game. Get Armada I or Bridge Commander, which are much better. Once again, the folks over at Activision have proven that resistance is futile (whatever that means). I give Star Trek Armada II a disapointing 2 out of 5.

Somthing they do not -ever- state in the manual or the box (read both, cover - to - cover, is that you MUST have Microsoft Game Voice in order to use this. Which requires an ADDITIONAL [$$] purchase. If you have it to spare, go ahead for the thrill of commanding a starship with your voice. Otherwise, I most heartily reccomend Star Trek: Starfleet Command II: Empires at War.

When first Starfleet Command came to store shelves, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. Then I did, only to find the game was a piece...The case was similar with the slightly improved Starfleet Command II. Starfleet Command III, however, showed me that not all the SFC games have to [be so bad]. First, the graphics are far better than the visuals in the previous two. The textures are extremely detailed and the ships look absolutely fantastic. Also, even though the graphics look great, the minimum requirements are surprisingly low (unless of course you have a CPU that is below a Pentium III and a graphics card that [is bad]. Plus, while SFC purists may not like it (which I can't understand), the interface in this game is simplified to the point where you can actually access everything easily. The interfaces of the previous two games were way too convoluted and seemed to only serve to slow down the pace of the combat; you pretty much had to go through about 50 submenus to simply reinforce a shield! Its surprising how much more enjoyable an SFC game is when you simply take out the 1 million or so menus and submenus from the interface. There is also a very eclectic collection of ships to choose from; each ship varies in speed, maneuverability, and weaponry and can by customized. While the game is very enjoyable overall, it seems to be missing the strategic challenge present in the previous two titles and the combat can actually become tedious at times. Also, while the previous games enabled players to choose from six or more races to play as, SFC III's number of races is restricted to four (the Federation, the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Star Empire, and the Borg). Overall, if you like Star Trek and have the urge to pilot one of your favorite ships from the Star Trek: TNG universe, this game is for you.

Finally a game for true hardcore Star Trek fans!

As a big Star Trek fan I was very hyped about this game for a long time and after finally buying it, I must say that it is almost everything I expected it to be. It's hard to please a fan such as me that knows all the little details about star trek but I think Totally Games has definitely did an amazing job with Bridge Commander in making it authentic in most areas. Despite a few minor inconsistencies, it is a very accurate re-creation of how things are done on the bridge of a starship.

There were only a couple of dissapointments I have so I'll get them out of the way first. The biggest is that the graphics although looking spectacular sometimes, look kind of bad in other areas (close ups on some stations and blocky body models). I have a midrange system with a GeForce 2 64MB MX400 and 200MB RAM....more than enough to run this game well. Yet moving around the bridge is choppy and the framerate drops dramatically with more than 3 vessels in the area at once. I was dissapointed by this because the game should have been programmed a lot better than this because my system should be able to run it very fast, but it appears that you'll only get this game running good if you've parted with a big wade of cash for a high end GeForce 3 or 4!

My other complaint is that saving is only allowed once u complete a mission. So if you fail halfway through u have to start all over again and watch the same cutscenes over and over. That's not fun at all, TRUST ME.

If you can get over these noticable flaws (and u probably will), then there lies a truly unique style of game here but only star trek fans will really appreciate all it's authenticity and atmosphere but I can assure you, it is unlike anything you've ever played before and I highly recommend this game to anyone with a powerful PC who loves star trek. And if you love star trek and don't have a powerful PC, you might want to consider upgrading :)

This Game in wonderful. The graphics are the best in the space simulation world at this time. Each ship looks like you pulled it out of real life. The crew that you control look real, they turn to talk to you, if your ship is hit, they fall out of their chairs. This is the best computer game I have played ever.

THIS IS THE BEST GAME I HAVE SEEN IN TEN YEARS!

Get this game, (...)GET THIS GAME!!!!!! Sure it is (about the same price) in most locations, BUT IT IS WORTH THE MONEY! Imagine all you star trek fans, being species 8472, fighting the borg on the internet, fed on your side! IT IS CRAZY FUN! And, now they have Intrepid type vessels, Tactical cubes, FUSION CUBES (which, by the way, is probably the most powerful vessels in the game), get this, you are able to fuse 8 cubes or tactical cubes into one ship! My goodness, it is CRAZY! Okay, maybe I shouldn't tell you ALL the details, but get the game, (...)GET THE GAME!

As in most of my reviews, I use the word "solid." While this game doesn't match up to Aliens Vs Predator 2, I enjoyed it much more than the original Elite Force. For me, the graphics were much improved. I found this game a bit more challenging than the first. It was hard enough at times, to get me frustrated. Yet not too hard to throw in the towel. You'll battle aliens on different ships in the galaxy. Sound and effects rate a 3, controls a 4, and the graphics 4+ but not a 5. AvP 2 is still my favorite shooter, but this is a pleasing experience for both Trek fans and gamers alike.

Dont waste your money!
