Adreneline. Period.

Very rarley would a racing game actually make me sweat. This game managed to do this. While many people may think the cars in the oncoming lane are the biggest worry. The cars in the ongoing lane are just as bad. Select from a few different city or sports cars and take to the streets in Europe or USA. This game has the most realistic veiw point I have ever seen in my life, instead of being aloud to have a birds eye veiw: You are required to have a camera close to the ground. Many would say this is bad, but infact it increases the excitment of the game.

This game features the most realistic crashes ever. They were modled after real life crashes therby resulting in a truly radical sight. Although you may try to avoid the cars. I say you should crash into one just to see this. But then again... Unless you're VERY good you'll probably crash into one anyway.

I highly reccomend this game to those who like games that will make the user's adreneline pump. This game is very very exciting.

Rated E for everyone.

Not For Sore Losers

This game is great!....unless you're a sore loser... these kind of people shouldn't play this game. I've seen my 17 years old brother playing it. Once he crash, he restarts the race. What a waste of time. The racing takes time but it gives you many chances of winning. Just don't give up. Hit the gas.

I love the sounds of crashing and screeching of the tires. -sighs- Fast Cars. o0o fast cars... very fast acceleration.

I think this game is a lil' bit better than Gran Turismo. Because Gran Turismo is so serious and difficult. Long time to load. You want to race for a quick time? Use this game. Fast. Easy. A lot of fun. I don't even use memory card. Try rent at Blockbuster. Ya'll see. ^.^

Great!!!

If you are looking for a fun game that anyone can play, this is a good game for you.It is neither too easy or hard.I'm a pre-teen and I love, But so does my little sister and Dad.This is what Me , my friends and Family want to play when they're at my house. It's worth every penny. The game is extremely fun to play any time. The only drawback is the length of the coarses. They're from 3-6 minutes long. The graphics are amazing and the crashes and sounds are majorly realistic.I hope this was a helpful Review.HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of my favorite racing games.

Burnout is the type of game that I really wanted for quite a while; an arcade type racing game with huge detailed crashes. Burnout delivered most everything I was expecting.

Some people have complained about the fact that none of the cars are licensed reproductions of real cars. This doesn't bother me at all. The cars do lack detail but that still doesn't bother me. The tracks are pretty long (especially the Marathon tracks) but that just gives you more time to put the pedal down and smash into oncoming traffic.

The opposition drivers are pretty smart. They'll try to run you into cars and they don't crash very often. You don't really want to crash into other cars, but the amazing crash visuals make you want to make a huge wreck.

There are several different cars available, and then two special cars (a city bus and a big-rig tow truck). All of them handle differently and have different speeds. For racing I like the roadster. For causing huge wrecks I like the bus.

A big plus is the large number of tracks you can race on. Granted, several are just reversed version of other tracks, but there are different traffic patterns, weather changes, and some tracks are at night (really neat).

You can save your best replays, but each one takes up 15 blocks on a Gamecube memory card.

I was kind of sad that the dents and things don't stay on your car after a wreck. They somehow get fixed when you start to race again. I was also wishing it had a "demolition derby" mode where you had to try to smash up as many opponents as you could. No such luck. These little things don't really make me that upset though.

Last Word: Burnout is a very fun racing game that is an excellent time-killer. If you want to see some of the best crash visuals ever, do check out Burnout.

Jaded - Get Burnout 2 Instead

I have to admit that I am probably jaded. I got Burnout 2 (B2) before getting Burnout 1 (B1) and there is a world of difference. Now, if I had gotten B1 when it first came out, I might have been impressed. But, now, there is no way I would trade them. B2 has much better graphics, better sound, slightly better control. B1 takes too long for many races. It forces you to see crashes way more often than you want to. I did not find B1 any "harder" than B2, just more annoying. The jaggies on B1 make it hard to see detail, so that makes B2 so much more impressive (it runs on the same hardware). Only get B1 if you want the "full" Burnout experience and/or are trying to be records (the latter is my perspective, obsessive-compulsive person that I am).

PLAY IT FOR A SHORT TIME

IT`S a good game if your going to play a short period of time.
It would be better if you did not stop every time you crash!
plus it takes 15 blocks on your memory card. And it takes forever
for your burnout bar to fill, and when you crash it goes back down! BUY burnout two much better game.

bad games don't get better with age

this game is so incredibly bad it should be a crime to sell it. i am referring to the ps2 version, but i doubt there were any improvements made to the gcn port. do not let anyone tell you otherwise...this is a bad game. if it were possible to give it negative stars i most certainly would.

now for the reason why. the advertisements give every indication that the crashes are realistic. while that is the only statement that may be true, let me tell what isn't. this game is no fun. i do not like a linear racing game of this sort. the crashes are fun to see the first time. after that it becomes tedious to watch not one, not two, but three angles of the same crash.

let's take out the crash effects. what you are left with is a horribly bad race game. it can be beaten easily.

steer clear of this money robbing hack job of a game.

Burnout strikes out

Being a car enthusisist since I was a child I always look forward to new racing video games. Nintnedo, however, has never truly delivered in this genre. Playstation still being the leader with the GT series, has always been my favorite choice for racing games.
When I saw Burnout at the local video store I thought I would give it a chance. Upon first inspection I was a little dissappointed at the car selection. No name brand make and models here. Only generic representations of muscle cars, sports coupes, etc. Very uninspired representations at that.
The action starts and looks very similar to most racing games. You get the standard first person, third person view selections. The racing environment graphics are slightly above average, and fairly realistic in some tracks, but you'd expect better from a game machine with the raw power of the Gamecube. The car models leave a lot to be desired. The uninspired designs are nicely rendered, with a really low polygon count for a GC game, but lack the detailed textures that made games like GT and GT2 cars so awesome. Graphic flaws asside, which I really don't chide the developers for so much, I mean this is still considered a first gen title. I really should give the developers props for trying to bring the racing genre to the Gamecube being that this was such an undersupported genre for the N64, but one flaw cannot be overlooked.
I know the developers thought gamers might enjoy this feature, I mean without it all it is just another copy of Nintendo's own Crusin' series, which seriously needs to make an appearance on the Gamecube pretty soon too might I add. Everytime the action gets heated, and you as the gamer really start to get drawn into the game and actually starting to enjoy it, you wreck. I know wrecks are a common part in all racing games. They slow you down, dissorientate you and sometimes take you out of the lead. You always recover though. Mash the accelerator button and steer your vehicle back onto the road and go for it. However, this little gem insists on totally stoping the action to show you your wreck in slow motion from four different angles and taking up to five seconds away from your clock. Being an arcade style racer where you have upward to 30 to 45 seconds to haul asphalt to the next checkpoint, that five seconds could mean the difference between victory and shutting off you Gamecube in total disgust. Although an interesting feature at first, it totally takes you out of the game after awhile.
The developers should have built in ways to manage this weak, frustrating feature. I was hoping the option menu would hold the key to shutting off this feature, but no. You must sit and watch every single wreck you engage in. After a while I couldn't stand it. It totally makes the game unplayable, at least for the serious racer anyway.
For the casual gamer looking to kill a weekend with a rental, this game is for you. However, if your like me, used to kicking serious butt with your painstakingly modified Camaro SS on Gran Turismo 2, then avoid this game. Trust me, it's not worth the frustration. Hopefully, the Gamecube will prove to be THE system for racers, time can only tell. For now we will just have to wait, and hopefully some developer will release a racing game worthy enough to be played on the Gamecube.

Awsome!

Fun, fast, and killer graphics! .... It's really cool. Pushing your friends off the road and watching the awsome crashes is great fun. A must.

Don't get me wrong this game is a blast and gets 5 stars in the fun factor. But, it's dissappointing in some ways. Such as some other reviewers have said it doesn't have car liscensing. Such as you can drive "pickup" instead of "Ford F-150". Also the street signs could use some detailing to be realistic and the guiding arrows aren't visible till it's almost too late. Yet, it's a total blast and I'd reccomend it to all racing enthusiasts.
