The colorful graphics, catchy background music, and funny theme of this game make it thoroughly enjoyable for everyone. You basically maneuver Billy around a beautiful and lush 3D world, looking for and pushing/rolling giant eggs. It is hysterical when you jump on the egg and start rolling with it like a downhill "snowball". As you are either rolling or pushing the giant egg, you can destroy you enemy (sharks), jump over abysses, and crash through baracades. My 3 year old was laughing the the whole time at the funny visuals this game provided. As you roll over your enemies, this "feeds" the egg (or at least it's inhabitant), and the egg gets bigger. The egg contains an "elder" that must be fed and ultimately hatched. OK, its not "Grand Theft Auto" or "Splinter Cell", but its a great arcade game that is challenging and won't give your kids nightmares!
Inventive title

Have the waters parted? Is it the end of the world? Has...has Sonic Team made a non-Sonic game?! Yes, it has-and while it's not the hard-working, dedicated world-beater it appeared to be at last spring's E3 show, Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg is an inspired platformer in an age when inspiration in platformers has fallen into the "yeah, let's deal with that later" category.
Young Mr. Hatcher, a bouncy kid in a chicken suit, has been whisked away to a poultry wonderland where crows have encased the world in darkness. His mission is normal enough-take back the light-but his methodology would probably make Sonic sick. Billy's only weapons in this game are eggs-very large eggs, in fact, that are found willy-nilly in each stage. Besides throwing them at (or rolling them over) enemies, Billy can hatch eggs after he's "fed" them with enough of the food that evildoers leave behind. Depending on the egg you've got in hand (there are 72 in all), you can hatch helper creatures, power-up items, energy-granting butterflies, GBA mini-games, and even a certain blue spiky animal...assuming you can find enough coins to unlock that extra. Despite the sheer novelty of rolling eggs over enemies instead of hopping on them, Billy Hatcher is just another mission-based platformer at heart. Basic game structure (not to mention a mission or two) is right from Super Mario 64-you'll know each stage like the back of your hand by the time you complete the five missions in each one. Luckily, most objectives are novel and avoid the "collect X of these" cliché like the plague-shame the controls make everything seem much harder than it actually is. The problem comes down to this, basically: Although the GameCube's got an analog stick, Billy cannot roll eggs unless he's full-on running. This forces you to run in circles, miss jumps repeatedly, and pull your hair out upon every game over. It's like the 16-bit days all over again-you'll die at one jump repeatedly, but everything after that will be so much easier. Still, this is a Sonic Team production, and as such, the platform action is addictive when it clicks. The graphics are lovely, of course, and while the multiplayer modes aren't much, everything (except the controls) is finely polished. It's nice to see Sega's studio try something new...and, even better, to see it mostly succeed. Besides...it's not just another Sonic! Yippee!
A fun and very original game that is marred by some problems

Most people already know that this game was made by the creators of Sonic the Hedgehog so I'll just get down to the heart of the matter. Yes this game is very fun and original but no unfourtunately this is not the new Sega franchise we've been looking for. The whole egg factor makes this game original yes but I've got a feeling this game was rushed out the door as it just doesn't feel fully implemented. For one thing at many points in the game you'll fall due to there not being enough room on the platform for both the egg and yourself. The biggest issue is that while hatching the eggs is always fun you'll hardly ever be compelled to do so. The animals in the eggs are never really used in puzzles so it's just easier to keep the egg itself than to hatch it. This games only other problem is it's relatively short length, I was finished in 10 hours. There's no real replay value either as once you're done there's not much to come back for. Overall the game comes out as slightly above average but is not the revolution Sega made it out to be.
AW-SOME!

WOW! Sonic Team made another game?! I love those sonic eggs.(And I hope I don't get that fat bird again.) I raced King Clippen and Queen Rabbish. And it looks like Chick has no nose. Oma-Oma is cute and Ponee is, too. So buy it.I'm telling you, buy it. If you're not buying it, you better buy it. So buy it.
Frustrating!

I also believe that this game was a bit rushed. There are several things that I have found quite frustrating about the gameplay. Control of the egg is quite difficult at times. You can't go slow - you're either stopped or at full tilt. Jumping on buttons is "buggy" also. At some points, you have to bounce an egg on a button to continue the game. Well, I have bounced on them sometimes as many as ten times without activating them! I have also landed on a button and fallen off, leaving the egg up on the button and me on the ground. The other problem is the camera. It doesn't "point" in the direction you need at times. For instance, when fighting the "boss" on Pirate's Island, level 2, he jumps around a lot, and when he lands behind you, you have to stop and reposition the camera so you can take a shot at him. Often by this time he is gone!

This game is not really that good. Its for little kids. There is little action and you mostly have to roll a big egg around. If you leave the egg somplace and you move on without it you have to go back and get it. It is mostly a puzzle game and no one that is above 8 should buy it,
Gotta love it!!!

I think that this game easily deserves a five becouse of all the great things in it. The graphics are awesome and the different settings in the game make it even better. I mean, who could turn down a game with a guy in a chicken suit who defends a race of talking chickens! And you even get to use an egg to destroy enemies who just so happened to carry friut. AND THEN... to top that you can feed the egg the fruit and hatch it into all sorts of animals to start the procces over again!!! This game is awesome and cool!!!

Sega(the masters of video games) are back again with this action/adventure title from Sonic Team. The game plays exclusivly on Gamecube. It stars (as described in title) Billy Hatcher. A normal kid who was summoned to Morning land to bring day light back to their world and ours. With the bright worlds and childish humor it is no wonder they picked the GC for such a game. The levels are rather large. Taking place in five or more different sections per level. Each split into a kind of mini adventure. The controls can be frustraiting in the begining, but once you have gotten use to that it is clear sailing. The game is a kinda mixture of Mario Sunshine, and Nights. Night's influence into the game is obvious by the grading system at the end of each level, loops that hurl you through the air in some levels, the controls while dealing with an egg,the soundtrack, the character design, and the story. Mario's is obvious by having more than one objective to each level, and having to collect chicken coins, and emblems. (Instead of blue coins and stars)The real genius in the game however is the egg system. There are many different types of eggs. Each kind having a different item inside. Some are just additions to the chiken suit while others are egg animals. Each item will come in handy throughout the game. The most fun part is trying to hatch every egg you see just to see whats inside. Some are duds but they are rather easy to notice. Yet still come in handy at times. keep in mind that without an egg your pretty much hopeless. So you might want to try to keep one on hand. which should'nt be hard considering they are everywhere you look. I had a blast playing this title. I think anyone should. For those of you who have lots of partys this game also has a party game bonus that is for up to four players. Where you battle each other for the most points.Additional bonuses include mini games that you can download to the Game Boy Advance. If you have kids they will be hooked to it the instant you put it into the system and hit the power. Some adults might find it too childish ,but i still recommend playing it. I swear you'll have so much fun. Just to be on the safe side you might want to check into renting it. If you really like it buy it. If you kinda like it buy it used. It is made by SEGA so your gonna get a triple A game. One that your just going to fall in love with. They can do no wrong. So what are you waiting for? Go pick up a copy of Billy Hatcher today!!!

I thought this game was awesome. It's colorful and challenging.
The good things:
Egg Animals
Costumes
Character Designs
Basic Storyline
Enemies
The Bad things:
Cannons (Sheesh!)
V.S. mode (Pretty good, but really no point. As long as you're not on survival mode, you can die as much as you want.)
The Basic Egg (What's with not hatching an animal?)
Basically it's pretty good, but there are flaws.
:) n.n I loved it!

I loved it. However, I do not usually like to play too hard or violent a game. When ever I get tired of rolling baddies over, I just play multimode and hatch eggs. It's not just that though. For you blood-thirsty types, you can destroy baddies or play survival with your friends.
