The All-Star Series is BACK!

Of course all of you baseball fans out there that have a nintendo system know about the game series of All-Star Baseball that has continued from 1999-2004. Everyone that has owned one of these games knows how great it is. There is no dissapointment when you've gotten your own addition of All-Star Baseball 2003. The graphics are great, the gameplay is good, and the commentary is outstanding. The 2003 addition has some more features for all of you All-Star fans.

Of course, since 1999, all the All-Star games feature the same diffeent types of gameplay including: Exhibition, Season, Series, Home Run Derby, Batting Practice, Create A Player, etc. Well get ready All-Star lovers because this 2003 version has a brand new feature never seen before. The new feature is called "Expansion Mode." This mode allows you to build your own baseball team. First, you chose from over a dozen major cities througout the US that have never been used before such as: Dallas, Hartford, Birmingham, etc. Then you choose your team's new stadium with 6 never before used staiums. Then you choose the team's logo which includes everything from: Aviators - Tornadoes. Then of course you have a player draft to put your team together and make it come alive. The last thing is choose your league either National or American. This features is awsome!

A new minor feature is in Season mode. First of all, you can create your own player and put him on the team roster before you start a season. Remember you couldn't create another player once your in Season mode? Well on this one you can! Anytime during the season you can create another player and add him to your roster. Another small feature is the Weather Forecast. On the main menu of your season there is an icon that says Weather Forecast. When you enter this option it shows you all the forecasts for all the scheduled games for that particular day. There is a huge US map that has a star on the location you're looking at the forecast for. It Below it displays the game of who versus who, the day's high and low temps with a weather picture next to it such as: Rain, Sunny, Cloudy, Overcast, etc. Then it displays the current temp, and also the wind speeds along with the precipitation percentage. This is a real cool feature.

The gameplay is outstanding. The game features accurately updated player batting and pitching stances. Also it features new throwing and fielding manuevers more and more like real life. The faces are so incredibly detailed that you actually think you're at the game! The stadiums look 10x better than ever before and also include the new stadiums for Expansion mode, Batting Practice and Home Run Derby.

However, there is a bit of a downside to the game's gameplay which is why I rated the game 4 stars instead of 5. In all the All-Star games the cathes are a little off to the side and not exactly lined up with the glove. That is basically the only downside to the game. Other than that this game is undoubtably amazing. This is the best of the All-Star series yet and it just keeps getting better and better from here. It's all up from here on!

This is a good baseball game if you are a hardcore fan. I like the expansion option alot. the only problem with this game is that it is too repeditive, and hard for a newcomer to pick up (I played one of my friends, and we stopped playing because I was winning too badly). Over all, though, I liked this game a lot.

This has to be the weakest baseball series there is. Buy a different baseball game and be much happier.

Ive heard great things about all star on N64 but never got one till PS2 all star 2002 the outfield was horrible. On the highest challenge all star settings I had 87 homeruns with luis gonzales for diamondbacks whats so great about this game. Then it came out for gamecube I thought now that its back on nintendo the greatness will return, almost. I now have 17 homeruns with gonzales in the month of sept. The outfielding is a little better the broken bats was a nice addition but after 45 min. a game it felt like it drags and on both systems if you dont save after 3 or 4 games it would FREEZE up. There's great football great hockey but baseball still does not get the credit it deserves also have'nt the game developers realized the umpire chases the fielders to see the play better and should'nt the computer attempt to steal base how many ever had a pickoff against the computer why have it if there not gonna run baseball still has a long way to go

One of ASB2003's main draws is the franchise capability that allows a gamer to take their favorite MLB team through 20 consecutive seasons, watch favorite players retire, bring up new superstars from their farm leagues, and more, but doing so requires buying an extra, super-sized, non-Nintendo-approved memory card. Gamers not wishing to make the extra investment can still save an entire season on a standard memory card.

The graphics here are good, but not spectacular. They're sometimes choppy, at least on a 13" screen. The instant replay that automatically plays after each out grows old fast.

Pitching is a breeze, but the batting controls take a bit of getting used to. I'm usually adept at gaming controls, but this one took me a couple of games to conquer.

The commentators offer some interesting factual tidbits throughout the course of a game, but their comments when a player hits a home run quickly grow stale, and there have been times (in a game featuring the A's versus the Astros for instance) when they err in their play-by-play calls (strike one was called strike two and vice versa).

Still, ASB2003 has a lot to offer, and die-hard baseball fans won't be disappointed.

It's OK

After playing this game, I'd say it's ok. If you really need a baseball game this may suit your needs. I personally will be waiting for a new version from this company or from another company next year. The graphics are pretty good and the hitting and pitching interfaces are workable. The presentation is pretty good. For example, there are broken bats, players run to first base at a realistic speed and players dive and scale fences. There are many things about it that I don't like though. You can't create players in exhibition mode and you can't edit players in any mode. The manual says that once you create a player in the season mode, you can use him in any mode. That isn't true. You can't switch control of outfielders you can only use the guy who is highlighted by the computer even if another seems closer. In easy batting mode, you can't aim bunts. Pitchers get tired way too easily. You can't change camera angles and instant replay is only existant after every play. There are not enough options that you can adjust. The game is ok for now but I will definitely consider buying another baseball game next year. The many flaws of this game need to be worked out.

It's great! Buuuuuuuuut...........

Ok, here I go. I have been absorbed by ASB 2003 for the past month or so, and I say: go ahead, buy it! But that doesn't mean the game hasn't got its flaws! For instance, sometimes, no matter how long you let your pitchers warm up in the bullpen, they never get the whole stamina meter full. That brings me to that point: It is IMPOSSIBLE to pitch a CG (complete game, for those not familiarized with baseball lingo) with anyone!! The stamina level for pitchers runs out waaay too quickly. Another thing: sometimes, when an infield error is commited, and the ball is thrown into the stands, the play just keeps on going and if you happen to be on "D", score one for the CPU. I happen to agree with another reviewer who says the pitches are too fast! My strategy is to wear down pitchers so you can actually hit balls! They COULD have more commentaries on the game, and perhaps umpires....but overall a good game. I just hope 2004 overcomes those shortcomings. But hey, aside from that, this game is great!
