Long time fan...

I'm always late to the gaming community - I just now asked for and received a Nintendo Micro for Christmas. I had a hankering to get my hands on the classics, and Tetris was one I knew I had to have.

I really don't understand why everyone is complaining about the 'world' backgrounds that fill the screen behind the blocks. It's really not that distracting from the game. There are options to toggle on or off, so if you don't want to see the piece outline, or don't want the option to save a piece for later, or see what piece is coming up, you can turn all that off. There are multiple levels and variations to the game play, so it should offer something for every player.

Great game, exactly like I remember playing back in grade school.

I like the orginal better

What I hate about it is when you have a space under on of the blocks and when you try to fill that space with another block it won't let you. It is not the same. I have this as the computer game. I was hoping for the origional Tetris music but nope it is different. It is annoying at times.

Can't stop playing

This game is great. I bought it for myself (mom of 3) and have to fight with the kids to let me play it, in fact we bought a second game to have available to lessen the arguements. I used to play it on Atari years ago adn was thrilled to see Tetris available on Gameboy. Enjoy!!!

Decent

The game settings are reset every time you turn it off, so that's kind of a pain. Plus, the instructions are confusing for the other types of modes. It's a decent time-killer though.

I see many reviews here saying this Tetris for GBA is so hideous it's responsible for global warming and causes cancer. I find, given the limitations of the GBA platform, it's not so bad.

Tetris is an addictively fun game - this has been well-established for decades as there were fun versions back before there were computer mouses.

Handheld gaming systems are, by necessity, limited. When I need to take a trip across town and the SUV is available, I don't jump on my bicycle. When I want to watch a movie and the 42" plasma is available, I don't pull out the 7" traveling DVD player. Similarly, Gameboy Advance is not the way I pass my time when I have access to more diverting things, such as PC games, etc. For me, GBA is a way to pass 30 minutes waiting at the airport or the dentist's office, and I find this version of Tetris just fine for that.

I see many complaining that they don't have the opportunity to "save" their high scores. All I can say is that if any significant portion of your self-esteem is derived from "hey, dudes! Check out my high score on GameBoy Advance!" - you are in serious need of a life.

Is Tetris fun? Yes. Is this one fun and does it reproduce the pertinent aspects of Tetris in a way that maintains it's addictively fun nature? For me it does. Can I show off my high scores? Mercifully, I have no desire to.

Mindless fun

I bought this for my husband for Christmas a couple years ago and it's been great fun for both of us. It's mindless, it's fast-paced and it's an enjoyable game. Enough options to keep you entertained for some time.

I'm Hooked on the Game

Never in a million years did I think I'd get hooked on a game. Well I am thoroughly hooked on Tetris and find myself sneaking a game at every opportunity. It's fun, entertaining, fascinating... well what more can I say. I understand from my children that the "old" Tetris was better - less involved and with fewer annoying graphics, but I've never played the "old" Tetris, so I couldn't agree or disagree with that comment. Do yourself a favour and "get hooked"

Disgraces the Tetris name

There's a reason this game is so cheap ( i found it for about $10-15)
It's a terrible game! Now, I almost never say that about games (most have something redeeming in it) but I am a die-hard Tetris Fan-Girl, and I found it, quite frankly, embarressing!
Just we're clear, this versian is for the GBA.
I picked it up, because I was excited to see that someone had finally made a color tetris game. When I turned it on, I noticed several things which disappointed me right off the bat.
There are several modes of play in this game, and only one which is "Plain-vanilla" tetris. Most of the modes are fun for a time, but only the classic tetris is even worth playing.
There are a few redeeming factors, but overall, being able to switch out your next piece (and "Hold" a favorite), and FINALLY being able to "quick drop" your piece instead of waiting as it drops, does not make up for the forgiving difficulty and distracting colors and backgrouds of theis game.
Several things prompted me to rate it so low.

One, there is no score-saving. Heck, there isn't any way to score the game at all! What fun is it when you can't even brag about your high score?

Two, the "infinate rotate" feature made it so you can continue to rotate a piece endlessly until you figured out where you wanted to set it.

Three, the "shadow block" makes it so that you can see where you your piece will drop. Makes the game too easy.

Those three items have effectively "broken" tetris for me! I promptly took the game back and requested a refund. Avoid this versian of tetris at all costs! If you must have a tetris fix, it's possible to find
the original for the gameboy under $10. (Even if it does stick out of your gba sp two inches!
Don't mess with the successful tetris formula!
Until a new versian comes out that addresses these issues, I'm sticking with my gb tetris!

how dare you name this tetris

This Tetris is as different from the real tetris as snood is from Bust a Move, except Snood is fun... This game just does not feel like real tetris, it sucks!!!!!!!!!! Give me Tetris not this artificial weird thing. The pace is off, its way too forgiving, and multiplayer makes no sense and is so far from real tetris multiplayer... It's sad that the DS cant play original GB games because this Tetris cant hold a candle to Tetris DX. Unless you have a DS, get Tetris DX, and if you have a DS, wait for a new Tetris game and we'll see if it doesn't suck.
