Losing The Force???

This is not the worst Star Wars video game to ever hit
store shelves. It comes pretty darn close though. What is the best part of Star Wars Episode II Attack Of The Clones for Gameboy Adavance? The packaging! Thats right! The box that holds this poor excuse for a Star Wars title is it's greatest aspect. When one checks out screen shots from various internet sites & magazines that showcase this title, one tends to think this game will be simply fantastic.

Being the only video game title to all encompass such a great movie it should have been truly splendid. Unfortunately this game is far from fantastic and is nowhere near splendid. The cool graphics and soundtrack do not make up for the horrible gameplay or lack thereof. This is one of the most difficult video games to control. I spent forty-five mins on the first level at the lowest difficulty setting and found myself ready to toss my gameboy advance out the window.

Being Anakin Skywalker is fun, but not when the playability doesn't exist. If one does decide to purchase this game, get it as a collector's item. Not as entertainment. Some things are just better left in a galaxy far far away.

Awsome!!!

This Game is great the first time I played it I like died 20 times trying to beat the first level and this game definitely takes some time getting use to the graphics are awesome the Characters look real the levels are sweet the game play is awesome and it's soo coooool! the opening Star Wars theme is awesome it's the actual orchestra! and the screen shots are awesome too! the only draw backs for me are

I WANTED TO PLAY AS YODA!!!!!!!
I wish the had parts of the movie playing in the game.

Dooku is too easy to beat.

but I won't let these draw backs bring down my rating the
game is AWESOME!

I did not enjoy this game

Don't get me wrong I am a diehard Star Wars fan, yet to me this game was a huge suckfest. The side scrolling adventure and the horrible graphics further retard the game. The music sounds as if John Williams had no role in it. The story line (if any) to the movie was no where nearly followed, and the title cards that explain the plot bored me into into oblivian. I also did not enjoy the fact that if I got to Level 9 and felt like stopping I would lose all of data from before. I even tried to write down all of the pass codes, but by the time i was done playing and writing my batteries had died. This was just another example of Lucas Arts trying to milk the Star Wars franchise. The game was horrible and not even worth the lint in my pocket.

Great fun!

First of all, If you are a Star Wars Fan such as myself you will really like this game. It stays true to the movie and is very enjoyable. For those of you who are not a star wars fan, the game is still worth checking out because of a few interesting gameplay elements that I will talk about later.

GAMEPLAY-(7) The main goal of this game is to move across the screen defeating enemies...The Gameplay can be split up into a few elements

A)Lightsaber-This is one of the best parts of the game. Using the lightsaber is easy...one button is used to deflect and another is used to swing. There are also different button combinations that provide simple but enjoyable swing combos. The one problem with the lightsaber action is the fact that you cannot swing the saber just standing still...You have to move in the direction you want to swing. Other than that, the lightsaber is fun to use
B)Force Powers-The force powers available depend upon your force meter. As it goes up from collecting force balls, you are able to perform moves in this order--Force Jump (starting), Push, Super Push...These moves are all useful and the Jump is always available after waiting a sec for the meter to fill up automatically to the jump force ability. These powers are useful against multiple enemies but a wasted on a single one. The jump is always fun to use.
C)3D Ship Levels-These consist of flying a vehicle on a pseudo 3d level. Its fun, but alas...you never really know what the objective is so it's kind of confusing. But, it does help break up the game nicely so it doesn't feel repetitive.

Problems With Gameplay--First, the no running is a shame but is easily fixed if you just jump everywhere. The lack of purpose on the 3d levels is disappointing, and sometimes the lightsaber will just not go where you want it to. However, these are just small minuses.

GRAPHICS-(9)-This is one of the areas where the game shines. The 2d graphic characters are very detailed, and the effects are pretty good. The 3d levels are nice but look a bit grainy...for the gameboy, however, they look nice. The backgrounds are colorful and varied, and the different enemies are very interesting. Just don't get too excited and begin comparing it to playstation games because it is not. For the gameboy, the graphics are very good.

Problems with graphics-The only real problem is the grainyness on the 3d levels and the no-shadow characters. This makes the characters look like they are just pasted on the backrounds but it still does not distract too much

SOUND-(10)-OkaY, there is no doubt that this game's sound is great. The opening theme is wonderful, and each level has music that pays homage to the movies. Although the music gets repetitive at points, it is still amazing for the gameboy.

CONTROLS-(7)-The controls are very interesting, giving a separate button to swinging the lightsaber and blocking laser bullets. This makes it easier, but sometimes you forget and get shot because of it. Jumping is strange just because you dont always jump where you want to.

Problems with controls-The jumping can be hazardous but thankfully there is not an emphasis on platform jumping. If you were able to jump where you wanted to all the time it would greatly increase the score in this section. As for the lightsaber, the only real problem is the occasional instance of facing the wrong way while swinging, but sometimes you hit things behind you like in the movies.

CUTSCENES-(9)-I decided to keep this seperate from the graphics section just because when I heard about this game the whole movie scene thing got me really excited and I thought it deserves its own section. So, the cutscenes are presented before each level and are in the form of still shots from the movie. THESE SHOTS ARE ACTUAL MOVIE SHOTS AND IT SHOWS. They look very nice and please don't complain about them not moving because that would be a portable movie system, not game system. So, these still screens have text at the bottom explaining the scene. However, there is no music which was dissapointing. I would have liked (MOVIE SPOILER) to hear the love theme during the ending movie still or some of that cool music during the chase scene stills. (END SPOILER)

Problems with Cutscenes-The Only problem is the lack of music, which would have really added to the feel of these scenes. I would have even raised the whole score of my review a point if there had been music during these scenes. However, the scenes are still a vital part of the gaming experience and are done well enough.

All in all, the Game is a very solid Star Wars title

The force is a bit disappointing with this one.

In a nutshell, its too easy and has bad graphics. Episode I has better game play and control, which made this all the more disappointing. And unless if im missing something, you cant use your force powers against Dooku, he always counteracted before i got to pull them off. I defeated him by pressing one button over and over again. Wheres the challenge?

Okay

Reading the last review sounds like someone might be a little too close to the franchise.

The pros - looks great, sounds great.

The cons - The controls are a little odd, and the gameplay is a tad boring. I mean all you do is go from left to right with a minimum of problem solving (The most you do is jump up one level, or down one level. This is in the majority of the levels, which are the "side scrolling" variety. The few "flight" levels save the game from getting 2 stars IMHO.)

All in all the product seems rushed.

But hey, it's Star Wars, right? I know that's why I got it.

The most HORRIBLE game

I bought my Game Boy Advance with the intention of getting Episode II: Attack of the Clones along with it; as a Star Wars fan, how could I not? Overall, yes, it was a fun game...but I have a few gripes:

1. Not difficult enough; within 2 days, I had already beaten the entire game. I initially assumed this was because I had played as a Padawan -- the easiest level of difficulty -- but found that the "victory in 2 days" standard also applied when I set the game on Knight and Master.

2. The levels that involved flying vehicles (speeder on Coruscant, Jedi starfighter, Republic gunship) seemed especially random; you basically win by shooting as much as you can, with little room for actual strategy. The exception is Level 2, where you DON'T shoot anything (you have no weapons) and basically follow Zam Wesell's ship around, dodging things in your path.

3. Okay, so there should be some standard fighting maneuvers, but in this game there was absolutely no difference in the fighting styles of the 3 Jedi. Playing Anakin is the same as playing Obi-Wan, is the same as playing Mace Windu...the only variation is the appearance of the character on the screen.

The fighting moves themselves were varied and pretty darn cool -- I got a huge kick out of deflecting weaponsfire with my lightsaber and force-pushing Count Dooku around (though he can dish it out just as well!). And yes, I enjoyed this game; yes, I'll be playing it again; no, I don't regret buying it. And I don't think you would, either.
