Not as good as I thought.

In the game, you don't even get to play wih Fiona, or be the mice or donkey while he's a horse!
And it has only like 20 levels or less.
But even the graphics are bad, the cookie is bigger than Puss. And Puss is bigger than Donkey. Besides, this game is a little fun, but no so much, because the levels don't last long, so, even if it had 40 levels, you would last 1 week winning the game.
Don't waste your money with this game, it's not worth it.

This game is pretty fun...

I like this game. It was one of the first games I got. I played it for about 3 months and then I beat it. If you want a REAL challenge then this game isn't for you. But if you like to relax or are a younger player, then this game is just right. I'd recommend this game to younger players or beginners or just-for-fun players, but NOT hard-core players!!! So buy this game! Ready, set, BUY NOW!!!

Jameson Thottam Shrek 2 game as good as movie

Jameson Thottam Shrek 2 game as good as movie

Premise of Shrek 2 + Jameson Thottam +
The premise of Shrek 2 for Xbox is fairly simple; Shrek and Fiona have just gotten married, and set out on their trip to vist her parents in Far, Far Away. Of course, this being a video game and all, there are tons of levels to their journey, and each level has a checklist of tasks to accomplish on the level before you move to the next. The first level includes the task of freeing the seven dwarves (which you find scattered throughout the level) as well as one-location tasks like capturing all the fairies, or stunning a bunch of chickens and tossing them into the pot.

Levels + Jameson Thottam +
Each level has four characters available to play from, with the level determining which four of Shrek, Fiona, Puss in Boots, Donkey, Gingerbread Man (known in the game as Gingie), Lil' Red (Riding Hood), Big Bad Wolf, Dragon, and Fairy will appear. Shrek 2 for Xbox is designed for kids, so game play features a team, rather than competition, format. Anywhere from 1 to 4 players can play, with players switching between the four characters to accomplish a task.

Character functions + Jameson Thottam +
Each character has common functions (like regular movement, jump, attack, and jump attack), but also has a unique ability that no other character has. For instance, Shrek can lift, carry, and throw items. Fiona can slow time. Gingie has a wicked candy cane attack and throw. Donkey has a "Donkey Butt Stomp."

Game Objective + James Thottam +
The object of the game is to move through each level, accomplishing the tasks that are set out for the level, and are detailed in the storybook. In each level, there are "snapshots" that, when completed, will allow you to unlock bonus material on the disc for the movie (as well as things like previews for the Shark Tale game. Each level also has Checkpoints that, once passed, will allow you to save at that level of the game. Also, each level has a special "Hero Time" where one character is selected to complete the task based on their special abilities.

::: No One Ever Dies ::: + Jameson Luke Thottam +

Since Shrek 2 for Xbox is designed for children, no one ever dies. If you reach a point in the game where someone would die, the game simply restarts at the last checkpoint you reached, with unlimited "lives" assigned to the characters. One feature of the game is that you can switch between the four characters assigned to any one level to access their special skills. The game is designed to have players working together to solve the tasks, rather than against each other, and if fewer than four players are playing at any one time, the players can switch between the available characters at will.

::: Sound and Graphics ::: + Jameson Thottam +

The graphics are pretty decent in Shrek 2 for Xbox, and the movement of the characters seems pretty fluid. The interludes where characters are talking instead of acting (such as when you meet up with an additional character for instructions, like the leprechaun and the magic mirror) are better quality than the game movement, but that's to be expected. When it comes to camera angles, the game can get a bit kludgy; it's often hard to change the angle to see what you want to see, especially when more than one player is playing.

Game Sounds + Jameson Thottam +
Sounds are fun for the kids; even though the original actors did not reprise their roles for the game, the approximations of the voice actors are close enough that kids (and most adults) probably won't be able to tell the difference. The characters all make comments to each other in character, and the sound effects for the various modes (like slowing time) are cool enough to entertain the kids.

::: Any Complaints? ::: + Jameson L. Thottam +

The only things that can get a bit annoying are fairly small issues. One is that you can't save a game between checkpoints. In other words, if you haven't reached the next checkpoint when you decide to quit, the next time you open that saved game, you go back to the last checkpoint, and any tasks you've completed between are forgotten. Kids may not mind as much, but as an adult, it's irritating as all get out.

Other Issues + Jameson L Thottam +
The other issue is that all the characters have to stay together on the quest. This is great for encouraging teamwork, but frustrating beyond belief when you are playing along with the kids and one of them doesn't want to move along with the rest of the team. Even one character holding back puts a sort of invisible barrier up, preventing the characters from moving along.

Summary + Jameson Luke Thottam +
Aside from these little complaints, though, Shrek 2 for Xbox is an amusing game for the kids with some fairly tame violence (the characters can beat up or kill snapping turtles, piranhas, the Merry Men, etc.) and a few bits of fairly non-offensive language (although my daughter points out that it's impolite to say "butt" which the characters do frequently. There are also incidents of typical Shrek behavior, such as breaking wind, but if you were okay with the movies, the video game shouldn't be much of a stretch.

Definitely Get Your Money's Worth

This is a wonderful game to "EXTEND" the Shrek experience. I bought it for my 4 year old and I started off playing it with him; it wasn't 5 minutes and he was grabbing the Gameboy SP and working the controls himself. We both trade off turns attempting to get through the levels and I read the captions to him. I bought this game before Christmas and we haven't finished the game yet, but I feel that I can write this review. We didn't want to finish this too quickly so we will definitely get our Money's worth (as these games aren't cheap) - it's been just about right for our attention span. We play for a while in the evening and then go to bed.

The game has the levels broken up into Books. We are at 62% complete and are up to the 5th Book (I suspect there are 8 books) and there are 5 Levels per book. You play some levels as one of the characters of Shrek, Donkey, Puss n Boots, Gingerbread Man and some levels as 3 characters simultaneously (these are challenging to get all three guys through the level).

Each character has their "talents" and you use them accordingly. There are 3 to 6 lives per character and you find extra health and tools along the way. Sometimes, it drives me crazy to use up the character's lives and we have to start the level over, but the more you play, the better you get and you do eventually get through the level... I tell my son, just force yourself to keep going and keep track of how much farther you get each time. After getting through these levels, some of the other levels are refreshingly easy (a nice break).

My 4 year old has learned great vocabulary and counting skills as you collect coins as you go through the levels and the display tells you how many coins you have collected (ie, 38/40). There have been a couple of easy, but timed levels, so you need to move quickly and my son has learned to watch the timer.

My son has completed a number of chapters "levels" on his own without my help and he plays them over and over since you have full access to previously completed levels. He reacts just like the rest of us and I can hear him in the next room yelling "Arrghhhhhhh" as he gets frustrated when he has to start the level over, but he's become very very good at this game. I think with the right encouragement, it's a great little game for all kids and adults. Play it with your kids, it's a great bonding experience.

I also suggest Shrek 2: Beg for Mercy which stars Puss N Boots and his escapades. Again, Beg for Mercy is a great game too.

Pretty good game

We bought this game for Christmas for out 6 yr old son. It can be a little difficult though. It's a little too hard for my son-I would recommend Shark Tale. He really likes that one because the enemies don't come after you-you go and fight them. In Shrek the enemies attack you...the village people come after Shrek and he doesn't move fast at all. It's a little frustrating unless you really know the "in's and out's". I would love to watch the person that got it done in 5 hrs, because after 4 days I still can't pass it. Good luck-I would recommend Barbie-The Princess and the Pauper or Shark Tale for younger players around the reading age. I hope this helps.

An Awsome game!!!!

Very good.......but could be better.

I bought this to play for a long period of time. Well, guess what, it lasted only about 5 hours. Overall, the graphics were good, music could've been MUCH better. Im not trying to bash this game(it really is a good game for the most part). The gameplay was challenging, but needed to be longer. IT was very fun, BUT there's is room for improvement.

Pros:Get to be Shrek, Donkey, Puss N' Boots, and Gingerbread man. Nice Moves.

Cons: Hard to control many players at once. Can't be Princess Fiona. Needed to be longer.

Take my advice, hey, if you've got the money, buy it right now, but if you're trying to save up for a very long lasting game, buy a Mario game(like SM3: Yoshi's Island)
