Terrible...Learning Company is Terrible

With our oldest child, we purchased all of the Reader Rabbit Learning Programs. We have unfortunately recommended to others that they purchase these for their children. We have purchased a new computer with XP and have found that many of our programs do not work. We expected that. The sad thing is that we have purchased too many replacement titles from The Learning Company that say it is compatible with XP, only to find they are not. When we go to the web site for help, they no longer support this title, and the only help they give is to attempt to install the program using the XP Compatibility Wizard. This has only worked once.

The Learning Company at one time was the premier childrens educational software company. Unfortunately, they apparently have found that they can make more money by relabeling their oldtitles, and selling them at a discount instead of redesigning the programs.

Won't run on XP - no support!

I just bought 14 educational software games for my young kids and all but this one run, as promised, on Windows XP. Don't buy this game; as of the date of this review, their website states that there is no longer any support for this software. I didn't pay a lot, but I wouldn't have paid a dime if I'd known it wouldn't run even once! It is also a major disappointment for my kids which is the exact opposite of our intended result for Hanukah! (Instead, go for Pajama Sam, any of the many wonderful Jumpstart titles, and our favorite, The Magic Schoolbus series!)

If I could give it a 0 I would...

I purchased this title based on box screen shots and the fact that the copyrights were recent on the box and it said it was compatible with Windows XP. Unfortunately as others have stated (and I have only read now) it will not run on my configuration of XP (SP2, full patches/updates). I have a high-end Pentium-IV computer w/1 GB of RAM and it will not run and it is unsupported by the company. Compatability mode gets me nowhere. I'm pretty P.O.'d and cannot recommend that anyone buy this product.

Do not buy Dr., Seuss Kindergarten

Do not buy Dr. Seuss Kindergarten unless you want to spend hours feeling like a fool for not being able to install it. Turns out that no one with Windows XP can, even though both the product description and the initial installation screens say you can. I called tech support and got a recording telling me to call back during business hours. When I called back during business hours, I got another recording saying there was no tech support for retail customers!

Works fine on Windows XP!

My daughter and I love this game, which is very high quality. WOnderful animations, charming music and especially the great skill games that train on matching, reading, logic, alphabet and other Kindergarten skills. It is very whimsical and very entertaining, and my daughter loves to play it over and over again. I have Windows XP home with the latest service packs and no technical issues. Very true to the spirit of the brilliant Dr. Seuss.

Dr Suess Kindergarten is perfect for practice and preparatio

This game provides activities that are all in sync with what my kindergartener is doing in school. The activities include a memory matching game, basic addition and subtraction, beginning and ending word sound recognition, lowercase alphabet recognition, rhyming and pattern recognition. There are three skill levels for each activity.
The best part of the software is that it stays true to the spirit of Dr. Suess. Most of his lovable charachters make an appearance somewhere in the game. The goal for the kids to collect animals for the new McGrew Zoo. And of course all the narrative is in tradtional Dr Suess dialect.

This title DOES work on XP, don't stress!

The educational benefits have been pointed out by others, I just wanted to put people's mind at ease that this title WILL work on XP.
You may need to use the Program Compatibility Wizard or you may need to get offline and close your anti-virus, anti-spyware, pop-up blockers and other assorted rubbish that starts up with your PC as they cause software conflicts, stopping some software from being able to be installed.
I came across an issue with one particular graphics card where it played it upside down, but Googled a quick fix and have never looked back. I have tested it on 5 separate desktops with success.

Only laptops could have legitimate issues with installation, but desktops should be fine if one of the above suggestions are used. Laptops are notoriously problematic with games, frankly they are not designed for them - they are mostly used for business apps, email and the Internet.

10-year-old software incompatible with Windows XP

This software was published in 1998, written for Windows 3.1. The setup has been slightly modified to install on Windows 95. It forces installation of an old version of QuickTime for Windows 3.1, and will only run at a screen resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. My 15" laptop LCD screen is 1024 x 768 pixels, so this runs only on a 9" diagonal section of the screen. Since it was not written for XP, plan on letting your kindergartener run with admin privileges, as it's the only way this software will run, if you can ever get it to install. It was nice that the publisher took the time to update the box with claims that it's XP-compatible. It would have been nicer if they had actually spent a few hours updating the software so that it actually was XP-compatible.

I'd Rate This ZERO Stars

Like everyone else, I bought this for my XP machine. I've spent probably 2 hours trying to install, but to no avail. I am really upset that Amazon would allow vendors to sell this garbage. It sounds like The Learning Company is a sham and won't offer support or a refund.

wonderful software game. My child has played longer on this game than on any other including jumpstart. there are games in almost every category of verbal and math that are very delightful. For every category that your child completes they get to bring a new animal for their zoo which is very rewarding to them. I have an older computer and I have no problem with the software.
