Our family loves Wii Sports and hoped that Summer Sports Paradise Island would deliver similar fun and exercise, but we were sadly disappointed. First up was Badminton where the view starts from behind the server, and then switches to a single-screen distant aerial view (or the same camera angle you started at from the serving side) where one feels little involvement in the action and has minimal apparent control over returns.
Volleyball is similarly boring, and also features bizarre design oversights like servers that appear to miss the ball completely, yet still send it over the net. In most, if not all of the games, one gets precious little sense that what you do with the Wii Remote makes that much difference in your success. Forget the curve balls in bowling, placed shots in tennis, stroke control in golf, etc., that you are used to with the excellent Wii Sports package.
The interface is somewhat cumbersome, and ridiculously long transitions during game play detract from the action (for example, between every point in Badminton you must watch the players saunter to their positions, then enjoy a full blue screen with the game logo, and finally return to the court, where you now have to press A before serving!).
The overall sense one gets with this package is that insufficient development funds were allocated for the project, leaving the consumer with a game that feels like it hit the market a year or two before the far superior Wii Sports.
Another example of horrible Wii shovelware

There are so many great games for the Wii and they have been selling so well that it has attracted less reputable companies to throw together crap as fast as they can in order to get in on the action. This is one of those games.
Right when we started playing the poor quality of the menus and navigation were a warning of the bad gameplay that was to come. We started with basketball (a game of HORSE) but there were no indicators of aiming or how hard you needed to 'throw' the ball. It seemed like it was completely random. Next was horseshoes, which suffered from the same problems. We tried two more minigames before immediately taking it back to the store for a refund which, surprisingly, we got.
This game is horrible. Nintendo would do well to at least require some minimal level of quality screening before they allow game developers to use their branding.
Please don't buy this.

I just got my WII system and I love it. I have tried many games out and have been very happy, but this game is AWFUL!!! On golf you can't control the swing or the speed of the ball and horseshoes I couldn't even get close... Graphics are good but not enough for me to keep the game. I went back to the store and sold it back to them the very next day.
BAD camera angles, dull play

This game contains lawn darts, horseshoes, volleyball, badmiton, mini-golf, croquet, driveway basketball & beachside basketball.
I played w/a friend which helped, but only to laugh at it.
Pros:
-Good organized menus, choices of length of play & easy-hard level of CU
-Nice background scenery idea, some only 2d drawing & mostly vacant
-9 Gorgeous mini golf holes in Aztec, haunted, congo, Wild west, medival, area 51, prehistoric themes. If these were real, I'd pay $20 to play a game easily of those 9 holes.
-Knows how hard/soft you're flicking wii remote in volleyball, mini golf, basketball
-Volleyball responds to perfect timing to character & ball distance almost like real life
-Lawn darts has easy to understand wind using flags
-Good sound effects even of things going by in the background
-Basketball has good control
-You can "taunt" your friends by hitting the d pad which will make random cute sounds on THEIR remote to throw off their concentration.
-Options for left or right hander
-you can hit the shuttle in badminton left/right/up/down swings
Cons:
-Lack of clear instructions or practice play, only 1 window quick text instructions for each game.
-Camera angles in badminton & volleyball is high in the sky which makes it hard to know when ball/shuttle is coming to you. GAMES SHOULD ALWAYS BE FIRST PERSON LIKE WII SPORTS. THAT'S THE SECRET.
-Volleyball timing even on easy MUST BE PERFECT, must swing+B to pass & swing up & down perfect timing to characters to spike & hard to see when ball is at the right spot, when other team spikes, it's very hard since you cannot be early or late.
-your characters will hit out of bounds in volleyball & badminton.. considering it doens't say you are able to aim, how do you get it out of bounds?????
-Badminton swings hard to choose since shuttle so small hard to get timing right
-Bad drawing/cartoon details on players, dark/bland/washed out coloring
-With lack of enough background (no audience to see or hear), the games feel a bit slower then they should.
Golf - That's the only good thing of this game was the mini golf course design. Almost all the wholes had cool things moving, or had a timing edge to it. Only the congo one was boring like any mini golf course today. When playing alone w/computer, load times were fine, but with a friend & a computer player, laod times were a good min for each new course & good 20 seconds for each player's turn.
I played this 2 seperate times on the same wii, once w/friend & that disc had MANY glitches like basketball (we could never get 1 basket) & bad camera angles in mini golf that would always point you in the wrong way. The next time I played alone w/CU I won easily in basketball & mini golf & the load times were quick.

It's not wii sports, but most of these games are actually really fun...with the exception of badminton. I do wish there was a practice mode...and used miis. But we simply cannot stop playing. It's an excellent Party Game!

The game has a couple of different games. Volley ball is hard and not much fun due to the repetitiveness of the controls and play. The others (horseshoes, mini golf, lawn darts) are fun and just take a bit of getting use to. They are enjoyable. The game lacks the use of the miis and the control are at times sporadic. Overall i think its fun and it gives a little more diversity to the sports that you can play on the wii. I have been waiting a while for horseshoes and i am glad someone finally put it out. Granted the game could be better but take what ya can get for now.
Surprised by the poor reviews!

First thing is first. Obviously the retail price of this game should be an indicator that it is not going to be a greatest hit. Also, noting that this is a 3rd party game is a good indicator that perhaps it won't integrate great with your current Mii's.
If you prepare yourself for those 2 factors, this turns out to be a decent game. I have small children, 8, 5, and an infant. As a family, we found this game to be fun.
I liked it just as much as Carnival Games which got much better reviews.
If you are a big time gamer and like shooter games, you may not find this game that fun, however if you own a wii just to casually play around with the family, and you are looking to get Mom, Dad, Grandma, and Grandpa involved, this is a good party game.
What other game out there has horse shoes, Badminton, Lawn Darts, Croquet, etc? My only complaint is that it doesn't have more fun little games like these included. Carnival games has over 70 events or games, whereas this one only has 7.
Overall I would recommend renting this first to see if is the game for you. We bought a pre-owned copy with a 7 day guarantee. We decided to keep it.

Could only be more fun if it had a few more games. Not as big of a challenge as Winter Sports, but it is still fun. I would recommend this game to anyone.
okay game, pretty slow

I bought summer sports thinking it would be like wii sports. It has a lot of different games and some of them are fun, but for the most part, it's pretty slow. My favorites are mini golf and horseshoes. The basketball games, volleyball, and badminton are just frustrating. I had hoped for a lot more. There are some much better sports games out there for Wii.
Not worth the whole $40

I like this game I really do, now if I could do it all over again would I pay 40 bucks, no I wouldn't. Mini golf is my favorite, again this won't be nominated for Wii game of the year but to pay 20-25 bucks for it would be worth the price..
