Adult content, demeaning announcer

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 1 / 61

My 3rd grade grandson received this game for Christmas. When he played it for his grandmother and me I almost immediately saw adult sexual content from an Eddie Murphy clip. Shortly thereafter the announcer started demeaning players who weren't good enough.

Great at first, dissapointing in a little while

When I first started playing this game I thought it was a lot of fun. Sure, the announcer could get annoying as hell, but the mini games were exciting and clever. Then suddenly, about 10 hours of game play later (a few days later), the mini games started recycling themselves. Soon things got really disappointing really fast.

I don't blame the people that gave this game very positive reviews, but I suspect they did so before burning out the short lifespan of trivia this game has to offer.

Rent this game for a party or two, but don't buy it.

Controllers Great :) Game Terrible :(

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 2 / 3

I'll be brief.
The controllers hold a great deal of potential for future buzz-in style party games.
This game however, is ultimately lame.

GOOD:
Actual film footage used in questions.
The scoring format keeps everyone in the game to the end.
As previously mentioned... the controllers.

BAD:
Repetitive... same cut scenes over and over and over and over and... *
The MC (the gameshow host/announcer... whatever) is extremely annoying. I mean really, very, excruciatingly annoying. If they ditched the announcer, this game would improve 1000%. He is not funny and simply wastes everyone's time. Seriously, I was literally embarrassed to be making my friends sit through his ramblings. At least let us turn him off!
NOTE TO GAME PRODUCERS: PLEASE TRACK DOWN THE VOICE TALENT FROM "YOU DON'T KNOW JACK"... THAT GUY WAS ENTERTAINING.
Repeat questions... the game is supposed to have a function that keeps track of the questions that you've seen and doesn't ask them again. Suffice it to say, it doesn't work very well.
There is a pointless "Party Mode" which is basically the same as the regular mode, but just doesn't keep score. I have no idea why you'd want this.
Graphics are cutting edge 1998 Flash animation quality. In their defense, most of the DVD is probably filled by the video content used in the questions. Decent graphics are an unaffordable luxury.
No online gameplay... not sure if this is even possible, but whatevs.

In summary... Lots of potential. Disappointing. Embarrassing. Collecting dust.
Hope they come up with some more games for these cool controllers.

* over and over and over and over and over.

Some big mistakes were made

While this game may be fun, its only good if you have people around who like movies. If not, you won't get much use out of this game. You can't play this online as there are no Xbox Live capabilities.

There are two more problems with this game that kill it for me that could have and should have been considered before this product was released:

1. The controllers use infra-red, which means they need to point at your console to work. This doesn't work if your console is behind you as you look at a projected image on a screen in front of you.
2. For me the most annoying mistake: The game dvd itself comes in a cheap dvd thin case. It isn't a standard green Xbox 360 game case with standard Xbox 360 packaging, so if you want to add it to the collection of games on your shelf, it won't fit in. If you are a collector that cares about this, avoid the 360 version of Scene It and get the DVD version instead. Why didn't they get this right? This tells me they were cutting corners to try to save a few pennies.. When I buy an Xbox 360 game, at the very least I expect it to come in an Xbox 360 game case.

I just bought it!

Ok, I played this game at Wal-Mart and I was hooked. Actually, Im a shooter fan and a part-time casual gamer. My wife is the one who pushed me to get this and after playing it, I was hooked. I really like the pace of the game and the options. You can always skip the announcer if you wanna speed it up. The questions aren't too easy and aren't too difficult (I'm sure its on the normal setting), so its very addicting. The only reason why I haven't given it 5 stars is because its not playable online against friends and families. I'm sure they can keep it up to 4-8 players and make password protected "rooms". If shooter games can do it, why not Scene-It? I think this feature would blow this game up in terms of popularity.

Great fun for the family

If you have watched more then your fair share of movies like my family has this game is a blast.
Actually it would probably be really fun if you don't as well.
It's a way to get my spouse and immediate family involved with the Xbox 360 when they normally wouldn't ever play.

There is a ton of questions, just make sure to sign in to your Xbox and then it will save your profile and the questions it asks you so that you will not be asked the same questions over and over.

Overall I think this game is great, if you watch a lot of movies like I do you may excel a little to much but it's still really fun and the custom controllers with the buzzers etc make it a lot more fun then your average trivia game.

Great Party Game

Scene It? is exactly what I had hoped for. Wide variety of questions, solid graphics, and a great gameplay experience. The 4 buzzers make it a blast for a party game, and I can't say I have any major problems with the game at all. The only minor complaint is that the announcer can get a tad annoying, but in the greater scheme of things, it's a small detail. Highly recommended if you're a fan of the board game series or love party/trivia games.

Got it for Christmas!

You don't have to be a gamer to figure out how to use the controls. For the price, you get 4 "wireless" controllers and the game. At first, we played individually but then everyone started to gather around. They all got caught-up in the game and started throwing answers. Thank goodness it was "wireless". It made it easy to play in teams in different parts of the room. It was a hit during the party for adults and kids.
I rated it a 4 because the intro gets annoying. MS needs to have the option to skip some of the intros. Hopefully, MS will have downloadable content through their LIVE service to expand the experience. Also, hope that they will have future games that can be used with the controllers.
Overall, I highly recommend the game for friends and family. At least, you won't lose any game pieces in this game ;0).

Finally Trivia on a Next Gen system.

First, this game does not have xbox live capabilities. Second, the xbox does a great jobs of keeping repeat questions to a minimum but, there have been times that a question has repeated. The game does come with four Big Button controls which are extremely useful for this type of game and according to Microsoft will be used in future titles probably dependent on the success of this one. So, if you enjoy movies and like to show it, this is a must buy.

I didn't give it five stars because of the host of the game that can become annoying by repeating the same phrases and not being able to skip the intros to each mini trivia game.

Good solid fun for movie fans

This is a fun game that most people can pick up and play right off the bat. We played it a number of times over the holidays, and maybe only saw one or two questions a second time, so the fact that it tracks the questions you've seen is really nice, allowing first timers to be on equal footing with those who play more often. And including the buzzers with the game was a brilliant move, since many of the people we played with would've been lost with a standard Xbox 360 controller.

A few features I hope they add in later on:
Telling you before you begin a new category whether it's a buzz in, or a multiple choice
A scoreboard, so you can see who the top scorers have been
The ability to choose which categories to play or not play during a session

But if you've got a group of movie fans together, then this is a great party game.
