Just bought this, you need to know the following before you buy!!!

1: This is a TWO-DISC set!!! The DLC of on a SECOND DISC that you must INSTALL!! This means that if you were hoping to save 1.5 GB of HDD space -YOU CAN'T!!!!!!!!!

2: Only includes KOTN & SI - none of the other DLC is included!!!!!!!

3: I cannot find ANY PATCHES on either of these discs!!!! This probably means that your game will still become unplayable after about 200 hours if you install SI!!!

These three things make the GOTY edition ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS!! Thanks for NOTHING Bethesda!!

59.99 for this

The game itself is interesting however somewhat redundant in scenery..my biggest complaint is the error messages ALL THE TIME !!! FROM BRAND NEW!! have to save continuously or you'll have to start all over right in the middle of combat ....very frustrating.....others said the regular edition didnt have this problem.....maybe just got a bum disc..dont know..but I'll think twice about another game from Bethesda though !!!!

I really don't get it

This game pisses me off because it's obviously high regarded and loved by all, yet I cant find out why. Gamespot gave it a 9.5. I can't seem to figure out what I'm missing. Just sheer size, mass and freedom of a game does not make it fun to play (to me). You will walk around this huge world and encounter only a handful of enemies, all very weak. The enemies difficulties do not seem to change depending on where you are on the map either. You can investigate caves, but there are only a few weak enemies in them, very little treasure, and nothing exciting happens, ever! The battle controls are clunky, he seems to swing the sword so slow and delayed. You can heal but it doesn't seem to do anything. And gaining experience depends on using the skills that you attribute in the beginning of the game, not fighting enemies like traditional RPG's. Yes you can steal and virtual do anything you want, but that gets old after a while. The fact that you can travel from virtually any point in the map automatically, takes away from the game big time, traveling is a huge part of RPG's for me. Also, If the action gets too tough for you just go into the menu and slide the difficulty meter to easy, WTF is that?!?
Having played about 20 hours, it just wasn't fun for me (needless to say). I am not a deviant, usually when games have such ridiculously positive ratings like this one, I end up loving them like everyone else, which is why I'm so vexed! I love the FF series, exploring caves, fighting monsters, buying and selling weapons and armor, which is all in this game, although a huge problem for me is that it lacks incentive.

You gotta be kidding me?!!!!

I didn't know much about this game but I did know that everyone seemed to love it, drool over it, and worship it. So I tried it. I like rpgs, I like anything medieval, i like being able to customize your character, etc. But even with all that, this game still managed to suck. After the tutorial you get out of prison and start on your way. Every monster and animal that sees you (except deer) will attack. Rats attack, crabs attack, even those vicious fish (Don't worry about the fish, you can shoot or punch them until they die. Well, ok worry, they can kill you). I did fine against them and goblins but discovered that every untrained farmer can kick my @##. You start with no money but can take whatever you want, I tried to sell items to make money but couldnt (i'm not sure if its impossible or i just did it wrong- i didnt get all the way through the 50 page book on basic instructions for the game). So i tried to take a couple coins from some guy who was asleep and failed every time (even when i was invisible and standing still) until i stood in front of him and tried.? In any case, as soon as i did it, a guard instantly appeared in the room. Your choices are then jail or run. I ran and they chased me... all the way to the next city! A wolf also spotted me along the way and joined the chase (apparently the wolf recognised law enforcement and left them alone). ANYWAY, to avoid 8 pages of whining, I'll skip ahead to where i got to the oblivion gate and had to rescue people hidden inside a tower. There were guards outside but they had no intention of helping me. Yes it was up to a thief (or agent actually) to rescue all these people who wouldnt even help themselves). A bunch of goblin-like creatures were outside who endlessly pelted me with fireballs and unerringly hit me even in midjump. I couldnt seem to defeat any of them with multiple sword strikes even though they were half my size. I hopped up on a wall, hoping to jump behind cover on the other side but it wouldnt allow me to. Next time, I got stuck by some rubble and couldnt get out, and waited for the goblin guys to kill me again. I decided to give up on the mission for now and wander the country side, found one place where it said i couldnt go then hopped halfway down a mountain (sideways) without injury. Finally I gave up in disgust. Is the great flawless oblivion that you people are playing the same as mine? Game of the year... yep i guess so.

Good game, if you have patience and time to complete it

I read all positive reviews for this game but when I got around to playing it, I did not realize the slow load times and occasional lags would be that irritating. Personally, I feel as though this game would be better suited for keyboard and mouse interaction, it felt awkward playing this using a 360 controller.

The map is pretty big, lots of items, lots of quests to complete and many variations of character building. However, I did not find it very exciting between the loading time and the hours of dialog. I found, like others, that the game was geared towards first person perspective and when switching camera views, it did not work so well. This is probably one of the longest video games to come out for the 360, very much worth the money.

not for the faint

this game will tax on your energy, and is virtully impossible to beat due to the longevity of the game. from the start of the game you have choices too many choices of which you don't know how it will affect the outcome of the game. i gave it three stars because it is still a great game just not my style. if you are not an avid rpg player this games not for you

Great for offline players

I've had Oblivion scince I first got my 360 and loved every minute of it, but I felt left out when the expansions started coming out on Xbox live. I don't have the cables necessary to support XBL at my house so when I saw that Oblivion GOTY edition had hit the shelves, I grabbed it up. I know that at least one other reveiver gave the game a 1 star for its $60 price tag, but keep in mind, Oblivion just went down to $30 while Knights of the Nine is still sitting at about $10 to download, and Shivering Isles is at $24. Total, thats $64 before tax. If you don't have Oblivion yet, or are about to pick it up because you just got a 360, GET THIS VERSION. It has the 2 big expansions, plus an update patch that fixes some of the bugs in the game (like the item multiplication arrow trick). You will still have to go online to get the small stuff like wizard's tower or Vile lair, but they cast about 2 or 3 dollars in MS points. Its a good deal for Oblivion first timers, or anyone without XBL.

Great game, if you got patience

First of all ONLY buy this game if you dont have oblivion already, if you do, and have live, buy it online. This game adds two great expansions, Shivering isles and KOTN (knights of the nine). Some of the pros are that most of the rewards for the expansions are non-leveled spells, but there are still some leveled items, so if you are eager to do the quests for shivering isles, go ahead, but you will miss out on some cool weapons. fortunatly there are always new enchanted weapons so you will never get bored.

The game as a whole, has great graphics, and more eye-pleasing scenery, because in my case I literally went from the dry wastelands of Morrowind to the endless, vast forest and plains of oblivion. The only real problem is the dungeon looting can be kind of repetitive but if you get bored of that do some guild quest, other than that the extra content offers a bit more of a load time but it really makes up for it.

Fun

This game has an excellent environment to explore. The religious references and darkness of the main storyline gets a bit old and disturbing at times. Toward the endgame, nothing really rewarding happens. There is nothing new to apply your wealth or new abilities. Overall the game is a lot of fun for those who like quests.
