The game itself is interesting however somewhat redundant in scenery..my biggest complaint is the error messages ALL THE TIME !!! FROM BRAND NEW!! have to save continuously or you'll have to start all over right in the middle of combat ....very frustrating.....others said the regular edition didnt have this problem.....maybe just got a bum disc..dont know..but I'll think twice about another game from Bethesda though !!!!
You gotta be kidding me?!!!!

I didn't know much about this game but I did know that everyone seemed to love it, drool over it, and worship it. So I tried it. I like rpgs, I like anything medieval, i like being able to customize your character, etc. But even with all that, this game still managed to suck. After the tutorial you get out of prison and start on your way. Every monster and animal that sees you (except deer) will attack. Rats attack, crabs attack, even those vicious fish (Don't worry about the fish, you can shoot or punch them until they die. Well, ok worry, they can kill you). I did fine against them and goblins but discovered that every untrained farmer can kick my @##. You start with no money but can take whatever you want, I tried to sell items to make money but couldnt (i'm not sure if its impossible or i just did it wrong- i didnt get all the way through the 50 page book on basic instructions for the game). So i tried to take a couple coins from some guy who was asleep and failed every time (even when i was invisible and standing still) until i stood in front of him and tried.? In any case, as soon as i did it, a guard instantly appeared in the room. Your choices are then jail or run. I ran and they chased me... all the way to the next city! A wolf also spotted me along the way and joined the chase (apparently the wolf recognised law enforcement and left them alone). ANYWAY, to avoid 8 pages of whining, I'll skip ahead to where i got to the oblivion gate and had to rescue people hidden inside a tower. There were guards outside but they had no intention of helping me. Yes it was up to a thief (or agent actually) to rescue all these people who wouldnt even help themselves). A bunch of goblin-like creatures were outside who endlessly pelted me with fireballs and unerringly hit me even in midjump. I couldnt seem to defeat any of them with multiple sword strikes even though they were half my size. I hopped up on a wall, hoping to jump behind cover on the other side but it wouldnt allow me to. Next time, I got stuck by some rubble and couldnt get out, and waited for the goblin guys to kill me again. I decided to give up on the mission for now and wander the country side, found one place where it said i couldnt go then hopped halfway down a mountain (sideways) without injury. Finally I gave up in disgust. Is the great flawless oblivion that you people are playing the same as mine? Game of the year... yep i guess so.
Outstanding RPG Quest with bonus content!

Think of ES IV: Oblivion as a FPS with swords and magic instead of guns, that takes place in a massive sandbox environment and what you get is one of the most addictive and suprisingly easy to play RPGs ever released. Explore a fantasy medievel world that is a work of art. The GOTY edition includes the huge expansion quests "Shimering Isles" and "Knights of the Nine". If you have not already played Elder Scrolls IV, then this is the version to get your hands on. There is so much to see and do in the vast country side. You can play the game using your choice of character types and fighting styles, pick career paths, and make moral choices; it's all here in a living and complex gaming world.
Game of the Year title well-earned

Oblivion is definitely the must-have game for anyone over 14 and younger than 50. Since getting this game for my boyfriend, he has cancelled plans with me four times simply because he is too engrossed in this amazing game (yes, even I admit it). Oblivion is definitely a cut above the rest because there's so much to do and it never gets boring (sometimes I watch said boyfriend play because it's so engrossing). Anyone looking at Oblivion to give as a gift will know that it will be appreciated and played non-stop.
I now have it for both PC and XBOX 360

This is what RPG games are all about.
My first taste of Oblivion was watching a friend play this game. I'm not usually a fan of watching other people play video games, but this game, with its graphics, seems much more enjoyable to watch it. Sometime I'll find myself stopping to "smell the roses." I usually stop shortly after when a wolf starts attacking me, but you get the picture. Of course there are the infamous glitches in the game. Most people, especially for PC (which I am one of them) could not even play this game without buying a whole new PC. I enjoyed the game so much though (I borrowed my roommate's PC to play the PC version), I felt it worth buying a version for my 360. The expansions, although not worth paying for individually, added enough new content to warrent the extra money for the GOTY edition. Overall an excellent addition to a dying genre. Hopefully other RPG makers will follow suit and provide single-player only RPG's for those of us who just like to run around doing our own thing once in a while.
One of the most immersive and addicting games around.

Oblivion was a great WRPG that most people who tried it enjoyed a great deal. It had lots of replay value, fantastic visuals, solid sound work, and a good, but a bit short storyline. However, it was not without it's problems, and we'll see if Bethesda has fixed those problems or not in this new Game of the Year edition package.
The game's graphics are still fantastic. they're not really improved or anything, but I wasn't really expecting them to improve it. What I was hoping and expecting them to do was fix all of the technical problems that plagued the original game. Well i guess I was wrong to hope for decent programming in a re-release of a game where horrible programming was the main fault. The game is still riddled with glitches, frame-rate drops and pop-in.
The sound work is essentially the same as in the last game, nothing is really added or improved. While the game's overall quality of the soundtrack was already good, it really could have used at least a few new tracks to keep you from turning the music off altogether because of repetition.
Here is where they actually added something to the game. The story has essentially been doubled in length thanks to the new expansion, The Shivering Isles that is included on the second disk. There's also a whole new continent to explore with more side quests, and a new faction/guild, the Knights of the Nine. So they really added a lot for you to do here, making this game able to keep you busy for a long time.
If you don't already own oblivion and were thinking about getting it, spend the extra money to get the GOTY edition, it's worth it. If you're a big fan of the original like me, trade in your original and throw down some extra bucks to pick this version up, you won't regret it. There's a lot I wish they would have done, but they didn't and that's that, but they did add a lot of enjoyment to the game, and I doubt anyone is opposed to that.
A must have...

I know, I know...everybody loves this game, right? Well there's a reason for that. Oblivion is a superb game. Along with Gears of War it is an absolute must buy for any 360 owner regardless of genre preference. The grapics, gameplay, and storyline are all extremely tight.
That being said there are a few downsides but they are nearly all in comparison to the prior episode in the series, Morrowind. 1) The number of factions within the game is reduced. This naturally reduces the number of questions, storyline interactions, etc. 2) Between the various factions there isn't the same level of consequence. In certain quest of Morrowind, completing the quest either got you expelled from another faction or prevented you from join it. This added a more realistic feeling and made you get more creative in quest completions. 3) Training has been extremely limited. You're only limited to 10 total training levels per character level. This may just be me but I don't particularly like that.
The other two things are more personal preference. The "level" of enemies and items can go either way. I see why Bethesda did it but I liked the other way better. The other thing is a lack of multiplayer. I don't personally want a multiplayer aspect in this type of game but some people might.
Both of the expansion packs included with the GOTY edition are solid additions. The Knights of the Nine starts out a little annoying as you go around making pilgrimages and such but it gets pretty good. Shivering Isles is a solid edition worth playing on this and just to download from XBox Live if you already have the original version of Oblivion.
Again, overall a fantastic game. Definately a must buy.

We all have our favorite movies, our favorite books, authors, etc.
Some of us have favorite video games. Oblivion is all about sword-fighting and combat, magic and wizards and orcs and monsters... Now, normally I wouldn't consider this my type of gaming - I'm more of a science fiction, action/adventure fan than science fantasy.
But Oblivion... ...oh my, Oblivion...
There is more content, more creativity, more bang-for-your-buck entertainment in this game than frankly any other game I've ever played before. Period. The sheer scope of what this game lets you do is more than I'll ever experience. From enchanting your own weapons and armor to creating your own potions or magical spells, buying and improving houses, managing inventory and treasures. There are so many hidden features and items... ...it's mind boggling.
You take the roll of a character (which you completely design and name) destined to save the land of Cyrodiil from the evil clutches of Mehrunes Dagon and the parallel universe that is Oblivion. However long it takes is entirely up to you, as along your path to complete the core quests of the game you will encounter simply countless "side jobs" and hidden quests to complete, dungeons to plunder and insuremountable quantities of loot to collect. With epic battles to fight, wild and imaginitive creates to save or slaughter, and a massive landscape to explore, there seems to be no end to Oblivion.
Complaints? Well, the game seems to crash occasionally. Save often and it won't cause much heartache. This game presents enough data to keep these modern gaming consoles working pretty hard. This game would be phenominal online, however no such option exists. Oblivion could very easily be the next World of Warcraft. Other than that, I have no complaints - I played this game to completion on both the Playstation 3 AND the Xbox 360. Again, as a non-enthusiast of Science Fantasy games, that HAS to say something for Oblivion.
Buy it - buy it on Xbox or PC so that you can add some of the downloadable content not available on the Playstation. Buy it, then set aside a LOT of free time to enjoy all it has to offer. I also strongly suggest getting the game guide - read my review on that before buying, though.
And Bethesda, quite frankly I would be relieved if you just made every game that ever comes out from here until the end of time.
Awesome

This game took me by suprise, the last one Morrowind was a big disapointment to me because it seemed very hard. Oblivion is very enjoyable and with many side quests and things to do as in exploring, turning into a vampire, main questing, and just killing to make money! Its worth it to buy the Game of the Year edition because of the expansions, much more content for your money.
Great game, if you got patience

First of all ONLY buy this game if you dont have oblivion already, if you do, and have live, buy it online. This game adds two great expansions, Shivering isles and KOTN (knights of the nine). Some of the pros are that most of the rewards for the expansions are non-leveled spells, but there are still some leveled items, so if you are eager to do the quests for shivering isles, go ahead, but you will miss out on some cool weapons. fortunatly there are always new enchanted weapons so you will never get bored.
The game as a whole, has great graphics, and more eye-pleasing scenery, because in my case I literally went from the dry wastelands of Morrowind to the endless, vast forest and plains of oblivion. The only real problem is the dungeon looting can be kind of repetitive but if you get bored of that do some guild quest, other than that the extra content offers a bit more of a load time but it really makes up for it.
