Not worth full price

Yes, the game is fun. Yes, it looks very pretty. But unfortunately, the game is way too short, only covering up to the Cell Saga, and then it doesn't even cover all the events taking place up to that. I think only the Saiyan Saga is fully covered, but the rest are not. You don't fight Dodoria or Zarbon, and only two members of the Ginyu appear; only androids #16, 17, and 18 show up; no Cell Jr... I think you get the point. I am fine with actually having less playable characters, but not at the expense of playing through all battles in the series.

As far as gameplay goes, i like the controls. I actually use the analog stick to move the characters. Takes a little getting used to the fact that you can't charge up your Ki, game does it for you. Drama Pieces was a nice little touch, but they should give you the option of turning them off on story mode, cause they don't really add anything spectacular, and many times it throws off your whole momentum when the fight stops to show you a little 5 second scene.

Overall, its worth a rental, not a full price purchase.

The Kamehameha fizzles...

What did they do to my precious DBZ fighting game series?

Okay, it looks beautiful. I will admit that. I've heard people say "It's so nice looking that it looks like your are controlling the Anime itself". Well, the graphics actually blow the decade old animation out of the water. It would be nice to see the series re-done using this level of animation.

And the positive reviews stop here. I'm an avid fan of the DBZ series. Esepcially so when it comes to the Budakai Tenkaichi series. I own 1, 2 and 3. Burst Limit is to the DBZ fighting series or games as a one legged grey hound is to dog racing.

I am not sure if they dumbed it down for younger kids, if they just wanted to try something new, or just were too worried about the "pretty face" of the game.

The DBZ: BT series is known for being high-speed, fast-paced, all over the screen action. Burst Limit just shoved 6 metric tons of lead down everyones undergaments. I am used to "rushing" and "dragon homing". Now I get Goku floating across the screen at speeds that would have him paced by balloons at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The controls have definitely been dumbed down. It's really just a matter of "wait till my Ulimate Attack powers up....and fire" system. There's crap for variety.

At most, I would reccomend this game as a rental. I'll be selling mine very shortly.

Extremely Disappointed.

It was my first game I bought for my PS3, and I gotta say I'm extremely disappointed. The game looks awesome alright, but it is way too short. All it has is the STORY MODE, which you can probably beat it in about 3-4 hours. Some crappy SURVIVAL MODE, which you have to fight the same characters over and over again 100 times, which is pretty boring, cosidering the dificulty between fights DOESN'T increase as you advance, so, there's really no challenge at all (I got to battle 50 and stopped, cause I got tired of it), and since theres NOTHING to unlock, well, there's really no purpose to play the game other than the STORY MODE.

Also, there's a lot of characters missing. You don't fight Zarbon or Dodoria in Frieza's Saga, also missing Androids 19 and 20 in the Androids Saga. There's no alternate costumes for the characters, only alternate colors, which sucks, cause it doesn't do a major change to the character looks. And it has about 5 stages to choose from too, not a big selection if you ask me.

The fighting is not that good either, just as the other Dragon Ball Z games, one "light" punch button, one "smash" punch button, the "ki blast" button and the "guard" button, and a few more extra features in battle, but nothing big or interesting. So there's really not a big variety of moves, it is mostly a "button-mashing" game. After about 10-15 fights, it gets repetitive and boring.

Overall, the game has pretty good graphics, but it is NOT that good, so if your look for a SINGLE PLAYER game, DEFINITELY this is NOT the game for you. It MAY be "funner" to play with friends, but when it comes to SINGLE player, it's really not worth it, specially at that price. So, only get this game if you're a hardcore fan of the series, or wait till the price drops, cause I really think $60 for this game it's too much for what the game has to offer.

Great Game But!!!

the games graphic is amazing of course i means it's a ps3 for crying out loud, but it don't give all the exitement you would want in DBZ for a ps3, for a fact there is'nt enough characters nothing new in the moves it's basically the same old thing over and over and if you've seen one of the character moves then you have seen all of the characters moves all are the same thing i played dbz tenkaichi 1,2 and 3 and my gosh nothing has changed maybe for the fact that they took out some good characters thats the only thing. as i said if you played one dbz you've played all i'm not a big DBZ fan but this game is still recommended i give it a 3 out of 5

Best DBZ sim ever

Pros: Graphics, story, online play, controls.
Cons: Need destructible environments.

"The graphics perfectly match the game with the series, fans will love the likeness of the in-game characters and their tv series counter parts. The story is as any DBZ fan knows is top notch. The addition of online play is a definite plus, letting fans deliver a Kamehameha from one part of the world to the next. What really puts this game ahead of the rest is the controls, the entire time you play you will really feel like you're a part of the DBZ universe. The only thing negative I can say about this game is the lack of destructible environments but with gameplay as good as this it doesn't bother me one bit. This is an absolute must buy for any DBZ fan/PS3 owner."

Not as fun as I thought

Although the graphics is really awesome, I found the gameplay to be lacking in a lot of areas. For example there's no button-mash compete option for two kamekamehas shooting at the same time, nor are there effects like smashing through mountains or ground impact from smashing into them like there was in previous games. It was really disappointing not to see these things.

Also, I wish they would put more cut scenes from the story line instead of just fighting over and over again.

THE BIGGEST DRAGON BALLZ OF THEM ALL!

THIS WAS MY FIRST DRAGONBALL GAME. I ALWAYS AVOIDED PURCHASING THEM BECAUSE FOR SOME REASON THEY ALWAYS RECEIVED RATINGS IN BETWEEN 5 AND 6 OUT OF 10. AFTER HAVING PLAYED IT OVER THE LAST 4 DAYS AND HAVING BEATEN THE STORY MODE, I'LL TELL YOU THAT THIS IS AN AMAZING GAMING EXPERIENCE! I VERY RARELY PLAY THROUGH ENTIRE GAMES AS MY LIFE AS A DOCTOR IS FAR TOO HECTIC. HOWEVER, I MADE TIME FOR THIS ONE AND MY DAUGHTER AND I SAT ON THE SOFA FOR 4 STRAIT DAYS UNTIL WE WERE DONE. I THINK THIS IS THE ONLY TIME WHERE I HAVE DONE THAT.EVERY FIGHT YOU COMPLETE IN THIS GAME LEAVES YOU BEGGING FOR MORE AND EVERY CUT SCENE KEEPS YOU GUESSING WHERE THE STORY WILL TAKE YOU NEXT. THE INTERACTION BETWEEN COMBATANTS IS SO EMOTIONAL AND SO PERSONAL. IT IS UNLIKE ANYTHING YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED IN THE STREET FIGHTER OR SNK SERIES. YOU WILL, UNAVOIDABLY, BECOME EMOTIONALLY ATTACHED TO EVERY ONE OF THESE CHARACTERS. GUARANTEED! ONE OF THE THINGS I ALSO LOVED ABOUT THIS GAME IS THE FACT THAT YOU PLAY AS BOTH THE HERO AND THE VILLAIN. I DON'T KNOW IF THE OTHER GAMES ARE LIKE THAT, BUT, AFTER HAVING PLAYED THROUGH THIS ONE, IT INSPIRED ME TO GO AND ORDER EVERY DBZ GAME FOR EVERY SYSTEM, EVERY MANGA AVAILABLE, EVERY SEASON EPISODE VOLUME AND EVERY MOVIE AVAILABLE SO I CAN GET THE FULL SCOOP ON THE DB, DBGT, AND DBZ STORY. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT I HAVE ROBBED MYSELF OF SUCH AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE FOR THE LAST 20+ YEARS! THE ONLY REAL THING I WOULD DO TO IMPROVE ON THIS GAME IS MAKE IT LONGER. IT TOOK 15-20 HOURS TO BEAT IT. I DON'T KNOW WHAT SONY'S DEAL IS, BUT, I THINK THAT THEY SHOULD TRY EXTENDING GAMES THIS GOOD BY MAKING MULTI-DISC COMPILATIONS LIKE MICROSOFT DID WITH BLUE DRAGON(3 DISCS) AND LOST ODYSSEY(4 DISCS). IF THIS WAS A 2-3 DISC COMPILATION, GIVING ME 30-40 HOURS OF FIGHTING STORY LINE, I WOULD GIVE IT 5 STARS. I WOULD ALSO HAVE NO PROBLEM PAYING 70-80 DOLLARS FOR THE MULTI-DISC COMPILATION AND I'M SURE ALL DBZ FANS WOULD AGREE WITH ME ON THAT NO QUESTIONS ASKED. IT'S THAT GOOD! ALL THAT ASIDE, THIS GAME HAS SOMETHING FOR EVERY TYPE OF GAMER NO MATTER YOUR GAMING PREFERENCE. DON'T CHEAT YOURSELF OUT OF ONE OF THE BEST GAMING EXPERIENCES AND FIGHTING EXPERIENCES YOU WILL EVER HAVE. BUY THIS GAME NOW!!!

good enough?

we have to take into account that this IS the first dbz game for the PS3,
i am quite a dbz fan(though i despise dbgt), i found somethings i liked and something missing from the game.
graphics on this game are awsome, but there are not that many characters, you get the saiyan saga, the frieza saga, and the cell saga, i compared this game to the tenkaichi budokai 3 for ps2, and it is far behind in story number of characters and fighting system.
there is stuff to be retieve from the last ps2 game to make the next far better than this one.
i can't deny it's fun, but you need someone to play with or it can get pretty old, pretty fast. don't expect a lot in terms of story, the skip very important caracters that were on other games.
better to rent it and check it out, because it doesn't make my cut(i have it), and i'll be waiting to hear from atari when they have a better game.
amazon service is good and fast, go amazon!!
