When Nintendo released their Nintendo 64, they took such a very long time to finally develop a baseball video game. Other systems at the time had great games that invovlve the Great American Event, but not Nintendo 64. When they finally unveiled Major League Baseball featuring Ken Griffey Jr. it took on a life of its own. Nearly a year into suspension and development in the video game industry, it became anything but oversaturated. In fact, it was worth the wait in fun.

The 1998 release consisted of all the Major League Teams at the time of the lineup. Still, the game included some brilliant graphics and a style to call their own. The graphics might seem a little flawed with their facial expressions, but the frame rate is fantastic. The game also includes a few added bits and pieces to the mane, including a home run derby, season play, World Series play, or exhibition. The game also includes vocal commentary from Ken Griffey Jr. himself, and a little bit of rapture in the mix. In exhibition mode, you can play not just against any team, but also with any stadium other than the home stadium, which makes it a little bit interesting. The game also includes a couple of special codes, including getting a home run automatically, every time Ken Griffey Jr. steps up to the plate, and even a code that gains access to special teams, including Angel Studios, the company production team that made this game.

It is just a shame that most other sports games for Nintendo 64 seemed like they were flawed from the start, but with Major League Baseball featuring Ken Griffey Jr. it is within a class all by itself. Although many people don't sell this game or Nintendo 64 anymore, it is nice that you can get this any way that you can. Still, I prefer this over any other baseball game released for the Nintendo 64.

Great for Little Leaguers

With some higher resolution games popping up, I thought this one might be swallowed up and lost. However, that was not true. As most kids will tell you, usually indirectly, it is the game PLAYING ability that they like. This one retains that. Even for adults. The playing is realistic and allows a good amount of variability. The background noise of the crowd is low fidelity, yet it sounds very real (which it should). The announcer is clear and realistic. Generally, pleasantly surprised that it plays so well.

This game is the best baseball game i have ever played. I waited and waited for it to come out, and as soon as it did i played it and loved it! The game has a season where u can pick a team, and play against other teams just like a real season. There is a schedule, trading system, and even a fre-agent option in season. You like to hit homeruns? Well theres even a home-run derby. In the hr derby, you get to pick up to 4 players. The rules are exactly the same as a real hw derby. You can also play 2 player in the hw derby. The stadiums are so realistic. I love the orioles, so i love camdon yards, so when i saw camdon yards in this game, it was EXACTLY the same as in real life. I couldnt believe it. The game even has the way EACH player stands (at the plate) different. It is also fun with codes. For example..if your at the mane screen......tap all 4 c-buttons at the same time...go into exhibtion....and buy the game to find out what happens! The game control is also great. You can even hit the ball in a certain direction, different speed, anything. Its an easy game to learn, unlike some games, and a great game to play. Buy this game if you want to have fun. If you have N64, and your dont have this game, you mine as well throw away your system.

classic!

Ken Griffey Jr. baseball is a classic in my opinion. It's not the greatest but it's still a classic.

Once you start playing the game often you will be very good but if you play another person that understands the game it still would be even no matter how long you've or the other person has played it for really because the controls are so simple. I'm the kind've person that likes simulation games, realistic franchise games, and war strategy games but this game is one of the few games that I have ever been glad to have even though it's not the kind've style of a game I'd like.

This game is totally not realistic but it still has good graphics. the announcers say preety much the same thing usually and sometimes it gets to the point where you want to put tape on the umps mouth but the announcers say the thing that happened when it happened not a year later. The music isnt singing and isnt the best but it'll tide you over I guess?

Getting to the game it has world series mode, season mode, exhibition mode, and home run derby. It shows you all of them on a little ball that moves down every time you move the up button. In homerun derby you can face the computer face a friend or just play by your self. During home run derby they have much different camera views than a normal game. At exhibition if you play the computer and you've already got the hang of the game then when you do exhibition be the worst team, and let your opponent be the best team for it can be challenging and not for you to beat the computer 30-1 every time(literaly) Also put how hard the game is on the hardest it can be and if theirs any other thing you want to change to make the computer be tough than just scroll around looking for something unless of course you want to beat the computer 30-1. Obviously in exhibition you make your line-up and rotation. In the world series well its the world series. But the long anwser out of all of these will be for season which has a limited amount of games you want to play. You can either play during penat mid-season or all 162 games. As I said before that I like sim games and this game isnt like that. There is no sim option. the only option is to play. Sorry I didn't tell you this in the begginging of this but you can do two players nothing more but less. Each average 9 inning game for exhibition world series and season take about 25-35 minutes a game. Also another thing I forgot to tell you was there are errors but not to frequent. Also injuries that can go from 1 day to season ending. I think there's only one more thing that I forgot which is that I obviously own the game and have had it since 98 or 99 or... Well I've had the game for a while. There also are steals where you take up to three steps then zoom off. If you have a ten in speed and got three lead-off steps you will have a almost automatic chance of making it to second but third is really tough for any player but its possible. There's more detailed things but I remembered of yes another thing I hadn't told you yet. Which is that when you press z on a player while your arranging the line-up or rotation it will give you a rating on each player out of ten. Like there's speed, power, hitting for average, fielding, and arm. But for pitching there's pitching speed, control, and stamina. Players faces are fairly accrate but their not that great. Stadiums have all the general things that they have(green monster, color of walls etc.)I'm not sure if I told you this or not but Griffey has a special code to make him hit a home run every at bat if your bat even just tips the ball.(no clue what your supposed to do for the code.)Sorry about how the article is not organized but if you still want to find outside info and find out what I forgot to tell you. When bunt against a computer you are automaticly out at first if your speed rating is below 8. The first baseman makes errors but never drops a ball that's thrown to him(same with all players when a ball is thrown to him)Theres a circle showing where the ball is going to be hit. There's two all-star teams AL and NL. No minor leauge teams and major teams are accurate. All trades with computer are always fair. Their are free agents but they're are all the players that are bad and un wanred by a team. You can only play for one year so no carrer game.

GRIFFEY'S GREATEST BASEBALL GAME

I have had this game since it came out 3 years ago and am still playing it constantly today. You can play and normal Exhibition game, create a season with your favorite team, make a World Series, and play Home Run Derby. I did a season with the Yankees and I trade for all the best players of baseball.

I have people like Ken Griffey (Seattle), Tim Salmon (Anahiem), Cal Ripken Jr. (Baltimore), Jim Thome (Cleveland), Robin Ventura(Chicago AL), and Larry Walker (Colorado). You get all these players by trading with other teams. There is one thing you must remeber, trades don't always work. You can do a 1-1 trade or a 3-1 trade. The team thinks about it and it will say TRADE ACCEPTED or TRADE REJECTED. So to get who you want you must trade to get better people to make a better offer, you can do a free agency. This game is awsome. Enough said.

Exuse me,is it just me or does it look like This game is no fun. If you want a real baseball game, get an all star baseball title.I mean come on, the graphics stink, and its the easiest game ever. Even if you dont like my review because you think Ken Griffey Jr. is cool, Other games have Griffey in them too that actully have good graphics and gameplay.

This game is really fun when you're a home team and you hit a homer. Then fireworks come out in center feild. When you get a double play and it's three outs they say "fantastic play".When you get to the World Series and you lose you could be lucky and get a trophy.

Don't buy it

I rented this game once and i was amazed that Mr. Griffey put his name behind such a bad game. There are better options in the market. Don't get this one!

This is by far the greatest MLB game ever! I own the Game Cube and have played and even own a baseball game for it (All Star Baseball 2000), but this one is far superior to the rest. If you are an avid baseball fan or are just looking for a game to pick up and play, GET THIS GAME!!!!!!
