Final Fight One is one decent game that plays well on the GBA. Each of the characters packs his own punches (pun intended) and there is enough stuff to keep you addicted for a few hours. In the end, unfortunately, it gets boring as you make the same moves over and over again. So you might want to rent it instead of shelling out (money) for a game you won't play many times.

I could finished this as soon as I was given it, since I started playing it straight away, but my boyfriend had other ideas. I managed to get to the fifth level (I think), before this arm came over my shoulder and switched it over. The next time I tried to play it, could I get past the fat police guy who had a gun?! Nooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!! And who are we blaming for that?

I think I definitely prefer beat-em-up games (or racing, but I'm rubbish at them) to any other, cos if you're in a seriously bad mood, then you get to take all your frustrations out on this. I didn't use the special move button much - to be honest I forgot about it a lot - but it wasn't really necessary, as some simple punches were enough to get rid of the bad guys. Some, sure took a little longer, but they will eventually die.

What I do find bad with these games is the bad guys rarely change. Most of them are easy to dispose of, and it gets slightly boring when they come at you constantly. I hated the guys who looked like chavs (OK, so you Americans aren't gonna know that name - guys who wear hooded tops, hang around street corners, think they're hard, just to generalise it) with names like Jay & Billy I think? They were just too quick to move about for me, as I found it really difficult to move up or down, as the bad guys normally went the opposite way!

I did manage to get to the last level of this game, but unfortunately got a game over before getting very far. I could have finished it on my first try, given half a chance though! I enjoyed the game, squealing every time I killed a bad guy, although it does get slightly repetitive. And I liked playing as Cody? He looked GOOD in those jeans!

Already own the SNES Version, is it worth it?

I already owned the Super Nintedo Version. So I was hesitant to pick this one up. This review is mostly directed to those who have the same question I did. "Is it differant enough to warrent the extra money."

What's differant from the SNES version:
---There's cut scenes between the character you play and each of the bosses talking smack to eachother.
---The music has been tweaked. It's still mostly recognizable, but very differant.
---Boss names now reflect the names they had in the Arcade.
---There's a new pickup item that allows for temporary invulnarability.
---There are secrets to be unlocked for destroying bad guys: Street Fighter Alpha versions of Guy and Cody, Number of Lives select, stage select, and other such things.
---Graphics have also been tweaked slightly.
---Where as the SNES version only threw three or four baddies at you at a time, the GBA version will positively swarm you unless you're set on easy level.
---Most importantly, they added the Industrial Area level that was missing in the original SNES version And of course they have Guy, which many people missed the first time.

What's the same:
---It's still the same game. It's still Cody, Haggar and Guy slugging it out through the same characters through the same levels going for the same goal.
---The characters that used to be women in the arcade and turned into guys in the home version are still guys in this version.

So is it worth getting if you already have the SNES version?:
Not really. If you missed out on the SNES version, I'd definetaly get it. Portability's nice and it's an over all good game.
But the only thing this really has over the SNES version is the inclusion of the Industrial Area, Guy and the Alpha versions of Guy and Cody. Nice additives, but probably not worth the $$ if you already have it on SNES.

Some Major Problems

When I first played this game on GBA, I found little variance or compromise from the graphics in the arcade. Maybe it's just me, since I haven't played that version for a while. But the graphics are definitely the same as SNES's version. Therefore, concerning the graphics, I'm very pleased.

However, my main problem with Final Fight One is its gameplay--terrible! The speed of their punches is way too fast. At first, I thought this made the game more challenging, since that was the problem with the SNES version--it didn't have the challenge that the coin-op version gave. BUT, then I noticed that, when Haggar is getting smacked--even just by one person--there's absolutely no way of interrupting this barrage of hits. So you're just standing there until you get knocked down, OR you can use your get-me-out-of-a-jam, sacrifice-energy move. Another problem is that, once you're knocked down, and there's at least three people around, which surround your lying body, you can't get up without getting further smacked. Imagine constantly having to use your sacrifice-energy move, which should be only used in very bad situations, and on 3 or 4 people several times. You end up with no power in no time. Maybe this is just Haggar's slowness. I don't know. But this problem seems obvious to me as soon as you hit the second stage. (...)

Another solid beat 'em up!

If you're a Streets of Rage or Double Dragon fan then Final Fight will no-doubt appeal to you. I only ever played it in the arcade once about 13 years ago but I was a cool game indeed. This Gameboy Advance version is identical to the Arcade but with a few more touches added such as new cut-scenes and animations and a couple of hidden levels.

Since I am such a wimp when it comes to games I did complete this on my fourth go (on the easiest setting) but I did notice a LOT of similarities between this and SOR in regards to the baddies, level progression and power-ups. That's not a bad thing but I only wish it lasted a little longer. Still it's a cool game and definitely worth getting.

Great translation of the classic CAPCOM fighter. Some small effects are missing(swinging rails on the subway, level transition seens), and the normal NINTENDO censorship(no women thugs). Capcom seems they tried to upgrade the music, but should have kept the original scores. Sound effects are perfect, even better than the SNES, and up to par with the original arcade. Graphics are awesome, Cody, Guy, and Haggar are done well.

One of Capcom's greatest fighters now on the gba

I played this game about 11 years ago on SNES but it didn't have Guy as a character choice (you had to purchase either final fight Guy for the SNES or Final Fight CD for the Sega CD) The game remains faithful or close to the arcade version names of the bad guys are the names used in the arcade and not the SNES version. The car smashing bonus gane is included and there was another but it escapes me at the minute. I have the game boy player for the cube and it looks good on a 29" screen. I think if you have not played final fight one you should the price is under $20 and it is fun I also think the graphics even edge out the old snes version. A recommended buy

Final Fight is one of my favorites!

For those who loved playing the arcade version and owns a GBA, this game is a must. It has almost everything from the arcade and some extras like new cut scenes, progress save between levels and level selection. The gameplay is simple but its a very enjoyable experience and its even better when put it in your pocket and play it anywhere you like.

It's portable Final Fight. What else do you want?

When I heard about the idea of Game Boy Advance several years ago, it was described as a 'portable SNES'. Instantly, the thought crossed my mind of playing some of my favorite SNES games again, or maybe have some of them re-done and touched up a bit. That's exactly what's been done with Final Fight One, which is a lot more true to the arcade game than it is the SNES game from 1990. Everyone by know exactly what the game is and what it entails. The question is, did they pull it off for GBA? The answer is, hell yeah they did. Not only has the game transitioned perfectly, they added some hilariously goofy cut-scenes before every boss battle, complete with dialogue like "I will beat your face in!" followed by "Shut up!". The game as a whole feels a lot more... Capcom-ish, with updated artwork, graphics and menu screens. But the gameplay is the same old Final Fight, and I couldn't be happier.
